Uptown DC’s Ras Nebyu dropped this video last week (shot by @RadioMars)over an old Pete Rock beat (please don’t sue him Pete.) The kid sounds like he came straight out of the 90’s-but in a good way. For example; “As I create a fist for my black hands/The return of the futuristic Black man…Just another cool-ass day up on Kennedy Street by the 70 where Georgia and Kennedy meet/Them Babylon boys they watchin’ us malevolently/The precinct on Peabody where my enemies be/In them Rittenhouse parks/Where we used to spark…” and more great quotes like comparing gentrification to genocide.  This Cypher League write-up said it best: “Travel with Ras Nebyu as he takes you from Takoma Metro to Howard University in “Washington Slizzards”, all by way of the 70 bus. He speaks on what keeps the heart of DC thumping and what makes the District of Columbia unique.” Babylon’s Most Wanted is Nebyu’s upcoming mixtape – look out for that in December.
