Boston rapper/producer Latrell James released “Tracphone” last night and I’ve already listened to it a dozen times. The shimmering, bouncy beat perfectly complements James’ verbose verses and snappy choruses “Girl where I live, you gon’ need a chaperone…I be on like a Tracphone…” I’d love to write 500 words about how Latrell is perfectly positioned to make 2019 his, somewhere in-between the energy of the beat from a Father record and the lyricism from a Kendrick verse, all with a style distinctly his own. But the music speaks for itself. “Tracphone” will likely be performed at some of James’ upcoming shows, mostly in the Boston area. Maybe he’ll come to DC sometime.
