Shoutout to Peekaso. Winning is a severe understatement right now....I'm proud to say we have a Peekaso "JUKEBOX:DC" painting in our office.

About Demont "Peekaso":

Recently discovering how to express his Art via his iPad (courtesy of Apple), dubbing himself "iPeekaso," he created the 1st ever televised live iPad presentation during Raheem's 2010 Jimmy Kimmel Show appearance/performance. Known for capturing real life, in real-time with his art pieces, "Peekaso" prides himself on being a "Young Historian" that's able to create unique paintings based on day to day historic news events, prominent figures in Pop Culture, the Hip Hop community and the World.

About That's Rocawear:
That's Rocawear viral videos celebrate the evolution of hip hop culture. District Nights (Time-Lapse Video)

I haven't posted many videos like this recently, but this one (which isn't new) definitely caught my attention for a minute as a D.C. resident that quite simply doesn't enjoy his city like he used to.

Basquiat, Hip-Hop Finds an Artist to Believe,

Hip-Hop Finds an Artist to Believe In
By ANDREW BORYGA

HIP-HOP has long given shout-outs to alcoholic beverages, foreign cars and jewelry. But recently, an artist has been added to that list. Jean-Michel Basquiat, who got his start in SAMO, a graffiti collective in Manhattan’s early-’80s downtown scene, and became a famed painter before his death at 27, has been name-checked in numerous tracks in the last two years by the likes of Jay-Z, Nas, Kanye West and Rick Ross, bringing his story and work to the attention of a new generation.

Kung Fusion: 'The Hip-Hop/Kung Fu Connection,' at Freer & Sackler Gallery

This empowerment is what inspired Wu-Tang mastermind RZA, who in his 2009 book "The Tao of Wu" talks about getting emotional while watching the 1978 classic "The 36th Chamber of Shaolin." "This idea of brotherhood and honor in the film was similar to what [kids in the burgeoning hip-hop scene] lived with just trying to survive in the projects in New York," Vick says. "They saw something in those films other people might have seen as campy or silly, but they saw it as a very real way of living — a way to live according to a code of honor."

New York-based DJ duo Hop-Fu, who will perform Saturday at 2 p.m., raises this connection to the level of performance art, making live mixes in time to classic kung fu films. (On Saturday, the movie will be 1984's "The Super Ninja.") "During the fight scenes, it becomes a scratch battle between the DJs," explains Vick. Hop-Fu member Barry Cole will also speak at 4 p.m. Sunday at "The Hip-Hop/Kung Fu/Afro-Asian Connection," a panel discussion and screening with Nelson George, author of "Hip-Hop America," and Konrad Ng, director of the Smithsonian Asian Pacific American Program. The program will be preceded by a 2 p.m. showing of Jackie Chan's 1978 gem "Drunken Master." (The film also screens Friday at 7 p.m.) "Everybody loves Jackie Chan,"

Dr. Dre and The Lucrative Business of Not Rapping

Sean Combs and Sean John – The notoriously entrepreneurial artist formerly known as Puff Daddy, P. Diddy and just Diddy made his name(s) producing Top 40 smash hits with Notorious B.I.G., but he made his money manufacturing menswear. Launched in 1998, Diddy’s Sean John is an award-winning clothing company that’s helped Combs become the richest rapper in the world. Along with his record business and stake in Ciroc vodka, Sean John has helped Combs build a $475 million fortune. “My brand is rocket fuel. It would take this brand 10 years to get to where I can take it in one year,” Combs told The New York Times in 2008. “I’ve gotten to the point where I don’t want to do just endorsements. I want ownership.”

Jay-Z and Rocawear – Trailing Combs just slightly, the Brooklyn native is worth about $450 million, almost half of which can be traced back to Jay-Z’s fashion line Rocawear. Jay-Z founded the company in 1999 with his Roc-a-fella Records co-founder Damon Dash and after several profitable years sold the brand $204 million in 2007, just a couple of months after an investigation found dog’s hair in Rocawear faux fur coats. In the meantime, Jay-Z has built out his empire with ownership stakes in the 40/40 nightclub chain, Carol’s Daughter beauty products, and J Hotels, a real estate venture. “My brands are an extension of me,” Jay-Z said in a 2009 interview. “They’re close to me. It’s not like running GM, where there’s no emotional attachment.”

Check Out: Graffiti Wars

Shortly after the airing of ‘The Antics Roadshow’ produced by Banksy, Channel 4 was also showing ‘Graffiti Wars’, which “examines street art and graffiti, and the creative tensions and conflicts within this artistic arena.”

The documentary especially looks at the tension between the creatives and the general public as well as the state, as well as in between the members of the arena, on the example of Robbo and Banksy. Take a look at the 50 minute show here above!
