M.I.A. In Concert - New York, NY

Spotted on Pitchfork:

Last year, M.I.A. provided the theme song to Julian Assange’s TV show “The World Tomorrow”. Last night, during her New York concert, M.I.A. had a surprise opening act: Assange, who delivered a message live via Skype. According to Consequence of Sound, he spoke from the Ecuadorian embassy in London, where he lives under diplomatic asylum.

Obviously, M.I.A. is a vocal supporter of Assange and WikiLeaks—remember, she called her mixtape Vicki Leekx. He is wanted for arrest in both the United Kingdom and the United States. Check out a photo M.I.A. posted of her “EPIC guest speaker” below.

M.I.A.’s new studio album Matangi is out November 5 through Interscope, and it’s available to stream right now. Read our recent interview with M.I.A. here.
