T.I. Talks Working With Pharrell, Justin Timberlake On Upcoming Album

ti

Speaking with XXL, Tip spoke on how his new album (titled Paperwork: The Motion Picture) was coming along:

T.I. has already been in the studio with the likes of Jeezy and Busta Rhymes. To keep the legacy of the late Doe B alive, he says they have several records together, but whether they’ll appear on his album is still undecided. In the meantime, Tip is particularly excited about reuniting once again with Justin Timberlake. “DJ Toomp did a record. Actually, it’s a Justin Timberlake collaboration called “Trap Me Up,” he says. “It’s an awesome record JT blessed me with.”

He adds about his sessions with Pharrell: “Also, me and Pharrell have a plethora [of songs]. We probably done recorded 14 records. Pharrell and I alone. Words couldn’t even begin to describe how cutting-edge, left-field and just how broad these records are. But they still have that texture that I speak of. They still have that Curtis Mayfield, Bobby Womack, a ridin’ dirty kind of … but a new way to present it to the world because it has that thing that Pharrell does to music that sets it apart from any and everything else that’s being played. And of course I had to give it the pulse of what I know. It’s incredible work. I did incredible work with Keno. I did incredible work with Sham [“Sak Pase” Joseph]. I have B.o.B did a record for me. It’s awesome.”

Justin Timberlake Reportedly Turned Down Performing At This Year’s GRAMMYs

Spotted on Hits Daily Double:

With the Grammys under two weeks away, NARAS head Neil Portnow, executive producer Ken Ehrlich and CBS EVP Specials, Music & Live Events Jack Sussman are doing everything possible to put together a great show. But absent from the talent lineup as of now are Justin Timberlake and Jay Z, two of music’s biggest stars, who were snubbed in the major categories, and whose presence on the telecast is crucial in the team’s concerted effort to recover from last year’s ratings slump. CBS is in year two of a 10-year deal to televise the Grammys, shelling out a reported $60m annually for the rights—and the show’s ratings derive directly from the wattage of its combined star power. According to Timberlake insiders, JT has turned down the invitation to perform and isn’t likely to change his mind.

10 Years Later: Former FCC Chairman Admits Janet Jackson Was Treated “Unfairly” After Super Bowl “Wardrobe Malfunction”

You’re going to find this interview in full in ESPN’s upcoming Music issue. From USA Today:

It’s been a decade since Janet Jackson and Justin Timberlake put on the most controversial halftime show in Super Bowl history. Timberlake concluded the show by exposing Jackson’s breast to the shock of the world. In ESPN The Magazine’s ‘Music Issue’, Marin Cogan speaks with several figures who played key roles in the controversy, including ex-FCC chairman Michael Powell.

“I think we’ve been removed from this long enough for me to tell you that I had to put my best version of outrage on that I could put on,” Powell says in the exposé In the Beginning, there was a Nipple which hits newsstands Friday. “Part of it was surreal, right? Look, I think it was dumb to happen, and they knew the rules and were flirting with them, and my job is to enforce the rules, but, you know, really? This is what we’re gonna do?”

Powell and the FCC fined CBS $550,000 for the incident, the largest sum in history at the time. MTV executive producer Salli Frattini, who oversaw the halftime show, wasn’t immediately aware of what had occurred.

“We were like, ‘Uh, we’re playing that back right now,'” Frattini says. “There was lots of chaos in the truck, and we played it back and we were like, ‘Oh, [expletive]. What just happened?’ ”

Another show producer, Alex Coletti, thinks it was a setup.

“Her entire camp stopped answering the phones. I finally got to her tour manager, and they were already at the airport.” Coletti says. “No, she set us up and she’s out of here. That was the last time I’ve seen or heard from Janet Jackson.”

Justin Timberlake Ft. J. Cole, A$AP Rocky & Pusha T “TKO (Black Friday Remix)”

justin-timberlake-tko-cover

We’re a little late but right on time with Justin Timberlake’s remix with J. Cole, A$AP Rocky and Pusha T, of which the single is originally found on his album The 20/20 Experience (2 of 2). In the song, J. Cole responds to Kendrick Lamar’s “Control” verse whiles Pusha T tells us he has the album of the year. I wonder how J. Cole felt about that?

Justin Timberlake Covers GQ

Kendrick Lamar isn’t the only artist set to hit the cover of GQ. Justin Timberlake will be joining the Cali emcee on the cover of GQ’s Man of The Year issue which hits newsstands on November 19. Read an except from the issue below.

“This face,” he says, circling it with one finger. “This recognizable face that you work so hard to get—not because you want the recognition but because you know you’re made to do it.” This face, he’s saying, comes at a cost. “The movie didn’t do well at the box office, so I should quit? Hold on a second. If I was somebody else, you wouldn’t have said that. I have the number one album this week, and I shouldn’t have released it? Come on, man. You sound like a dickhead…. It just shocked me because, like, you’re trade magazines. None of your opinions count. And by the way, none of you can do it.”

Nas Speaks On Collaboration With JAY Z, Justin Timberlake & Timbaland

The below excerpt is taken from a recent interview with The Huffington Post. I do hope we hear the song in question soon.

One particular track off the album that has piqued fans’ interest is, “Sinatra In The Sands,” featuring Justin Timberlake and Jay Z. What was the recording process like?
Excitement… Excitement to work and be in the place that we’re all are at, musically. Those are the guys who lasted the test of time, and those guys are at the top of their game. They’re just company to be in. So that’s the whole vibe of that. And of course the title says it all.

Lyrically, where are you taking fans on the track?
More like from a musician’s stand point, someone who’ve been around. Because Sinatra has been around and he has a long, long standing with the stage and the audience for years. And he evolved. His talent got better just like wine. And I think that’s something a lot of people want to achieve. So that’s what this song is really about. Striving to be the best you, like Sinatra had become.

Justin Timberlake’s 20/20 Sequel Hits #1

justintimberlake2020EII

Leave it to JT to continue his assault on the charts; after almost selling a million copies of The 20/20 Experience in the first week (it’s the highest selling album of the year, by the way), Justin Timberlake has returned with Part 2 Of 2, which enters the charts at #1 with a still-very-impressive 348,000 units sold.

You can read more about it and other chart toppers (like Lorde and Haim, for example) over at Hits Daily Double.
