Uptown XO – 4Pac: The Spook That Sat By The Booth (Stream)

Some new music from Uptown XO? Inspired by Pac? Expect to be rocking this one for a while.

Based off the movie “the spook that sat by the door” and 2pac’s style…this album represents the “We don’t die we multiply” mentality. After Marcus, Martin, Malcom, Mumia, Matulu, and Tupac there is ME. And after me will be plenty more . Representing the struggle. And being a voice for the people

Indie Love Enterprises, in collaboration with Cricket Cemetery, are pleased to announce the release of Uptown XO’s classic, “Takeover 2,” on two 12″ colored vinyl LPs — limited to 100 copies!

In 2008, a unique hiphop movement gained attention in the nation’s capital which was influenced by go-go, the native music genre that originated in the mid-60s. Uptown XO (or “XO”) was one of the first to bring exposure to this new sound when he released his sophomore project, Takeover 2.

Using a mixture of go-go, soul and jazz infused hiphop instrumentals, XO expresses a strong sense of pride for his community and dedication to preserving the authenticity of D.C. culture. Washingtonians consider this project to be the archetype of modern day hiphop in D.C.

As years went by, many came and went in the local hiphop scene, but XO stayed planted in Washington to help the city flourish as a potential platform for popular hiphop music. Today, XO is a member of the internationally acclaimed hiphop trio, Diamond District, and a star among the Mello Music Group roster. He is currently working on his next solo project, which is due at the end of 2014, as well as Diamond District’s sophomore album entitled March on Washington.

Uptown XO’s “Takeover 2” 2xLP Colored Vinyl Deluxe will be shipping out in May.

Via the other MMG;

“Here’s a lost jewel from Diamond District‘s Uptown XO featuring the other MMG‘s big spitter Wale. The original track (sans Wale) was produced by Oddisee, but for the new version XO recruited Diamond District brother yU to show off his production skills, then had Wale drop a verse.”

Uptown XO – Finding My Way (Video)

Diamond District emcee Uptown XO releases the video version of his first single “Finding My Way” from the album “Colour de Grey”. A.B. The Pro produces, adding a percussive funk loop to XO’s introspective lyrical mood. XO explores all he’s been through – from childhood evictions and lost memories, to the battle for his soul: “Lost erything in life and had to start all over / I had to cope with the pain, now I can’t stay sober.” As always a picturesque tour of Washington DC from Uptown XO.
