Last year the musical Fela! took Broadway by storm, wowing audiences with the extraordinary story of famed Nigerian musician and social justice advocate Fela Anikulapo-Kuti, who inspired a generation through his soulful Afrobeat rhythms. At the center of the stage, in the midst of Bill T. Jones’ electrifying choreography and Kuti’s soul-stirring music is actor Sahr Ngaujah. Ngaujah has brought Kuti back to life to much critical acclaim, including getting a Tony nomination for the role. He talks more about his experiences in the DC studios on his first stop on the show’s world tour.
