During Wale’s set at his show at the opening of the Howard Theater, Wale brought out Shy Glizzy during Bait. I love that Wale is putting on more artist from the city. #Dcornothing . Picture courtesy of Naeeeeee.

SMH, No respect giving to Wale on this lame "power move". So you bring out Shy Glizzy who was beefing with Fat Trel at one time (or may still be) and everything is a "Wale putting on more DC rappers" move?
Jukebox, quick question… How is Wale "Putting on more artist from the city" when Howard Theater is off of Georgia Ave.? Aint like he took Shy Glizzy to Florida, or Texas, or California and allowed him to perform at one of his(Wale's) events.
I have no negative feelings towards Wale, but it's evident he's attempting to build up a support base in DC to rival his competition. Shy & Trel need to squash their differences or atleast put them on hold and DC need's to start weeding out these "rappers" who are exploiting the city more than supporting the city.
Great points from a great perspective. I guess time will tell what happens for Shy Glizzy and his new association.
Wale put on Trel and Trel beefing with him. Shy the next thing out the city behind Trel. Who in the city better than both of them on that street shit? Exactly stop looking at it on a negative point of view and see the money move, Shy signs to B.O.A that brings attention to the city and more bread to B.O.A. Cobain from VA doing his, Phil Ade doing his thing, Logic doing his thang and they getting all the support from they states. Trel doing his thang acourse but without Wale who would he be another foamposite, ax wearing, dread swinging rapper talking bout "Wale ain't from D.C. this nigga from Maryland" sheeesh what does Wale have to do to receive love from the city that he put on. Nobody would know shit about DC besides the DMV if it wasn't for Wale. Go to ATL everybody shows everybody love, Future, Gucci, T.I., Jeezy, Travis Porter, Luda, 2 Chainz etc list goes on and they all making bread. This DMV shit can be the new era but people from DC hate everything besides DC, people from MD hate on VA but love DC, and VA is truthfully the reason that rappers come to DC, ain't no bread in the city, majority of the fans at any concert, club appearance etc from VA point blank period. Go to the club majority of the people in there from MD or VA, go to college majority of the fans in the area go to a VA school getting everybody hip. Now you wanna talk this diverse shit ask Wale which state showed him the most love now look at him now. But DC & MD still say "This nigga ain't from DC he from MD" shut the fuck up sheeeesh "Crabs in a bucket" *plugs in headphones listens to music*
^^^^ u ain't never lied!!!!!
1st off, This the same poster from April 10th.
2nd, I respect your point of view and the whole 9.
3rd, I wasn't even coming from a stand point of wale being from DC or not because what it boils down to is the name a artist makes for him or herself in the music world. where your from should NEVER give you more radio-spins or less, because if you are potent with you craft then your talents speak for themselves.
What I was getting at was…
A). The way the body of this article presented it, Shy Glizzy was making ripples in the DC area before Wale bought him out at the Howard Theater. So Wale isn't putting Shy on nor is he bringing more exposure to the city.
B). We ALL know Shy is being talked up now for 2 things, that being (1). He resembles and rap's like a philly kat (and it's nothing wrong with it). (2). He dissed fat trel.
Im looking at it from the same angle I can bet my bottom dollar on that Wale is looking at it from, there is a nice majority of local talent that is way more popular on a buzz tip and better lyrically than shy. out of all the talent in the city you choose to attach your name to a enemy of your enemy? Wale playing chess, and I respect it to a certain point.
You bought up the subject of money and "bread" a couple times in your reply, and that is another major issue with this music game, not just dc's music scene or the dmv's but the entire Hip Hop culture in the US. Everyone is so concerned with making money they forget the purpose of music and the power that come's with becoming "big". What's a couple million in the bank if at the end of the day your a artist who will be forgotten once the next entry come's through the scene and out shines you?
It's not a "Crabs in a bucket" mentality over on this end, Im a Hip Hop head and I take this culture serious. but majority of these big names appear not to, so it's hard for me to see all their actions as positive one's when the bottom line is the basis for those actions is some shady underlining gimmick.
So to close all this out, DC will forever be originators in the world of Music, we have BEEN solidified this status and NO ONE can EVER take that from the city or EVER claim to bring spotlight to the city, the ONLY (and read me clearly on this one) the ONLY people who think Wale has bought attention and spotlight to DC is kat's who do not know a lick of dc's artistic heritage or history. ANY rapper who comes from out the area is only building on and helping expand, there can not be anyone to claim the title of DC's vanguard. Bottomline.
YES EXACTLY.. YOU GOT PEOPLE MOVING FROM EVERYWHERE SAYING THEY REP THE DEPARTMENT OF MOTOR VEHICLES THE SAME WAY PEOPLE MOVE TO ATLANTA AND REP IT
