Sports lifestyle brand K-Swiss, takes its new campaign back to where it all started for the brand; the American West Coast. This spring, BBC Radio 1 DJ and trainer connoisseur, Charlie Sloth, kicks off the new ‘K-Swiss California Love’ campaign, with a four-part documentary style mini-series starting the 4th March, 2013.
California is the birth place of hip hop culture with rappers such as Dr. Dre, Ice Cube and Snoop Dogg as icons of the West Coast music scene. ‘K-Swiss California Love’, is a glossy, documentary style mini-series following Charlie Sloth to LA to explore the origins of hip hop, it’s rise, it’s fall and its resurgence in the UK.
Comprised of four short films chronicling Charlie’s adventures in LA, and followed up by eight artist-based films back in London which will explore California’s wide-ranging appeal and influence over the UK hip hop scene. The story begins with the godfather of UK rap getting to grips with California’s resurgent hip hop scene and its iconic local communities, from the birthplace of gangsta rap Compton, to the Santa Monica pier and the affluent Beverley Hills.
AQUAhydrate was the main topic during Diddy’s visit on Jimmy Kimmel (his business partner Mark Wahlberg made a quick appearance as well). He also spoke on his new tattoo, his daughters and more.
I’m sure no one is surprised. Started from the bottom indeed.
As MTV News’ Senior Hip-Hop Writer Rob Markman said, Drake dominated rap features all year long, and that was underscored when you realized that every artist on his lineup had at least one big collab to perform with him on the cross-country jaunt. “He strategically had features with people he was going on tour with — so it was Waka with ‘Round of Applause,’ 2 Chainz with ‘No Lie,’ A$AP with ‘F—in’ Problems’ and Kendrick with ‘Poetic Justice,’ ” Markman explained. “Anything he touches is a guaranteed smash.”
Atlanta-based rapper previews two un-released songs, one that could be assumed under the name of “Blessed” and the other featuring Young Chop production with a feature by fellow Atlanta-based rapper Future.
French Montana brought his Excuse My French tour to his hometown as he took over New York’s SOBs. The show was packed as tickets sold out in record time. Besides running through his known cuts such as ‘Pop That’, ‘Marble Floors’, ‘Straight Off The Boat’, ‘New York Minute’, French also had a few surprises up his sleeve.
Busta Rhymes, Trina, Yo Gotti, Wyclef Jean, DJ Khaled, and Uncle Murda joined French on stage to perform their own tracks, much to the enjoyment of the crowd. Here is a recap of the guest performances, shot by David Downer. His debut album Excuse My French hits stores May 21st.
Oprah invited Alicia Keys on her OWN series. Alicia Keys discusses being raised by her single mother, her music career, family life and everything else in between.
LL Cool J must know he bears a striking resemblance to accused killer Christopher Dorner, but he wants NO PART of a movie about Dorner … at least not yet.
French producer Para One has a track called ‘Every Little Thing’ that, surprisingly, caught the attention of Killa Cam, of all people:
Those who follow Para One and our Marble entourage since the mid 2000′s know how important this is for him and for our extended family of artists. Cam’ron was the number 1 rapper for many of us, and as far as music, poetry, marketing strategies and fashion goes, the mark he left on rap and modern music as a whole is unprecedented and would probably take a whole book to explain. We are still blown away by the fact he accepted to appear on Every Little thing. His verse (which he starts by re-singing the original melody from the chorus in his own Cam’ron words) is a straight-from-the heart-love letter – Cam’ron style – to a very special lady with a “Booty like a mountain”. Apparently it’s Valentine’s day every day for Killa Cam.
To end the set of his performance at Greene Street in Greensboro NC, Trinidad gave the crowd quite a treat as he previewed a brand new track that he says will be on his upcoming mixtape. It sounded real good live and sounds like it’s going to have Future on it as well. Young Chop on the beat.
“It didn’t even make it on my radar until other people brought it up. It didn’t even matter. We had a wonderful performance, and that’s all I cared about. I was with my sisters and the three of us matter to each other, and that’s all that counts. We matter to a lot more people, with all due respect, than her. So, I really don’t care what she said”
What all Mannie Fresh fans have wanted since last summer is Mannie’s much-anticipated collaborative project with Yasiin Bey (Mos Def) titled OMFGOD.
“We actually mixing it right now,” said Fresh.
Mannie and Mos “decided to keep it simple” and therefore a feature-less 10-track release will soon be making its way to the public.
“We recorded way more than that,” clarified Mannie. “But rather than to [just] have somebody say like, ‘Oh, wow’ – I think a lot of times when you do that you throw away music. So, I just wanna give people like ten bangers and let’s be out.”
Jaden Smith drops some pretty respectable bars while over in London with Tim Westwood. He also spoke on missing Justin Bieber’s party, Kanye’s London show (no need to link that, honestly) and more.
