Following Meek Mill at the first entry, the number 9 spot has been given to ATLien Future:

Considering where Future was at the start of his career, the meteoric rise that he’s experienced over the past year is more than enough reason for the Astronaut Kid to keep his head in the clouds and the #9 spot on MTV News’ “Hottest MCs in the Game VIII” list.

What began as a strictly underground run began to take off in 2011 with Future’s “Tony Montana” single and its Drake-assisted remix. During 2012, however, Future sky-rocketed to new heights with high-powered pop hooks, while still keeping his hold on the streets. His mix of melodic arrangements and raspy rap bars were a sure-shot formula for some of the year’s biggest hits.

MTV‘ gets the brain trust back together for their annual Hottest MC In The Game list. At number 10 is MMG’s, Meek Mill.

While he prepped his debut album, Dreams and Nightmares, the MMG rapper kept busy early in the year with features on Rick Ross’ Rich Forever mixtape, in addition to appearances on remixes of tracks like Wale’s “Slight Work” and Tyga’s “Rack City.”

By the spring, he delivered a brand-new body of work on hisDreamchasers 2 mixtape, which included the smash “Amen” (featuring Drake) and other notables like “Racked Up Shawty” with Fabolous. M.I.A. reveals a little diddy to wet fans appetites for Matangi. Spotted on That Grape Juice:

The project, a collaboration with fashion house Kenzo, serves as a prequel to her upcoming fourth album of the same name. Over an eight-and-a-half-minute track, the Sri Lankan powerhouse cooks up a cacophony of sounds including tribal rhythms, heavy drums, and Hindi chants. Her vocals aren’t heard until five minutes in.

Bruno Mars On ‘The Jonathan Ross Show’

Tinchy Stryder: one of the few people to try to at least do something quasi-different than everyone else as it pertains to Baauer’s instrumental/unintentional dance craze…

When I heard this beat a few months ago I HAD to spit on it… Then it blew up. So I thought lets get a band to play this and give it a little twist… Hope you all enjoy!! Plenty more to come in 2013 😉

Did New Orleans Rapper Magic Die In A Car Accident?

Update: It’s looking to be true. Damn. R.I.P.

I’m going to find this one hard to believe until I see some additional confirmation, but this was spotted on Dirty Glove Bastard:

Reports on twitter are that former No Limit Records artist Mr. Magic and his wife died in a car accident last night in Mississippi. Magic was always one of my favorite rappers on the NL roster and his second album Thuggin remains one of the few CDs that I actually bought three separate times in my life. Our condolences go out to his family. R.I.P.
