Mannie Fresh On Vlad TV: Record Labels Will Be Gone in 20 Years

The New Orleans rapper/producer discusses Mac Miller and Macklemore achieving success without a label, saying he’s not surprised one bit.

“You don’t really need the machine right now,” says Fresh. “There’s a bunch of lies and b.s. being told to make some other dudes money,” he adds.

Fresh also weighs in on whether he thinks their success is partly to do because they’re white, and also says record labels will be a thing of the past 20 years from now.

In the above clip, Psy spoke with MTV about how life was right before ‘Gentleman’ (the obvious follow-up smash to the record-shattering ‘Gangnam Style’) was released:

“I released it on April 12, and on April 13 I had a huge concert in Korea … so that week, it was like hell,” he told MTV News. “On Friday, I had to release the single, and on Saturday, I had to release the video, and I had to do a 50,000-person stadium concert. And that same week, on Monday and Tuesday, I did the shooting [of the ‘Gentleman’ video]. And I was done with the shooting on Tuesday, and on Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, we were editing, and I was rehearsing and I was memorizing all the choreography. So that week was like the worst time ever in my life.”

For those that don’t even get the video (or the song), he explained that, too:

“Yeah, in that video, I’m an a–hole. Excuse my language, but I cannot say anything else, I’m an a–hole. But he keeps saying I’m a gentleman!” Psy laughed. “When I am composing a song and making a video, I really love that kind of twist; if I make a video where I keep saying ‘I’m a gentleman,’ and you know, I’m being [polite], that’s not going to be fun. I want a twist.

“It’s a song about telling to a lady that you’re a gentleman … I keep saying I’m a gentleman, but it’s not enough, so I’m also saying ‘I’m going to make you sweat, I’m going to make you wet,'” Psy said. “I am saying ‘Wet Psy!’ — like a lot of hip-hoppers saying ‘West Side!’ — And then I keep saying ‘I’m a gentleman.’ I’m convincing a woman over and over that I’m a gentleman, but sometimes I’m wet.”

I’m not even really sure I can explain the below clip.

Scarface – Hard Knock TV Interview (Part 3)

Part 3 of our interview starts with Scarface asking why white contemporary singers sell more albums than their black counterparts. Scarface proceeds to say that he heard an executive at a tv network that deals with music say that they are now going to target the network for a young white audience. Facemob is concerned that the new generation doesn’t know who Kool Herc is and soon wont know who people like KRS-One and himself are because they are being written out of Hip Hop history. “If you gave a fuck about this culture in any shape form or fashion you would not put the shit out that you put out. You would slam the door on artists that came in there with that shit!” Check out the interview for the rest of what Facemob has to say!
