From CNN:

Former South African President Nelson Mandela is now in critical condition, officials said.

Mandela’s condition worsened in the past 24 hours, the South African president’s office said, citing Mandela’s medical team.

He has been hospitalized in Pretoria since June 8 for a recurring lung infection. Previously, authorities had described his condition as serious but stable.

“The doctors are doing everything possible to get his condition to improve and are ensuring that Madiba is well-looked after and is comfortable. He is in good hands,” President Jacob Zuma said in a written statement, referring to Mandela’s tribal name.

Mandela, 94, has become increasingly frail over the years and has not appeared in public since South Africa hosted the World Cup in 2010.

The anti-apartheid hero has been in and out of the hospital in recent years.

His history of lung problems dates to when he was a political prisoner on Robben Island during the apartheid era, and he has battled respiratory infections.

Kendrick Lamar Speaks On Firefly Festival Performance

From MTV:

When Kendrick Lamar takes the stage at a festival, anything is possible.

The crowd’s feedback dictates the flow of each show — the Compton MC told MTV News after his performance at the Firefly Festival — making each performance a unique experience.

“I really just play off the crowd. I’ve good chemistry with my DJ, and there’s little things that we do where he knows what song to go to, how much energy to swindle into the next song,” Lamar explained. “I really just feed off the crowd and what side is rocking the most.”

Family Of Left Eye Not Happy With TLC’s Recreation Of ‘Waterfalls’

We previously posted a new version of the classic ‘Waterfalls’ that featured Chilla & T-Boz sangin’ with Japanese star Namie Amuro…..and apparently, the family of Left Eye was thinking the same thing we were. From TMZ:

The family of Lisa “Left Eye” Lopes’ feels betrayed by TLC’s decision to re-record “Waterfalls” with a Japanese pop star … because no one even bothered to tell them.

T-Boz and Chili recently released a new version of the group’s 90’s hit — in honor of their 20th anniversary . Instead of keeping Left Eye (who died in 2002) on the recording, they replaced her with Namie Amuro (think Britney Spears of Japan).

Left Eye’s sister, Reigndrop Lopes, is pissed, telling TMZ, “I did not know about it until a fan posted it online. I mean it would have been nice if they would have given us a head up before being surprised.”

Reigndrop says her mom was shocked and hurt as well … because she felt keeping Lisa on the song would have honored her daughter’s memory.

Spain v Uruguay: Group B - FIFA Confederations Cup Brazil 2013

The match between Uruguay & Tahiti begins at 8PM GMT (4PM EST). To get to the action, simply click to the next page below (or click on the above image).

Uruguay will be without Diego Lugano for their clash against Tahiti in the Confederations Cup on Sunday.

The defender picked up bookings in the matches against Spain and Nigeria so will miss the clash against Group B whipping boys Tahiti with Liverpool centre-half Sebastian Coates likely to take his place.

The South Americans know that they will advance to the semi-finals if they can better Nigeria’s result against Spain and a win is virtually assured against the islanders who have lost their two games so far in this tournament 6-1 and 10-0.

That means Oscar Tabarez may choose to rest some of his stars ahead of a probable semi-final against Brazil or Italy with Edinson Cavani an obvious candidate as a yellow card would rule him out of the next match.

And although the head coach is not taking a victory for granted, he admits that his team are big favourites to make the semi-finals.

“No match is won before playing but the more likely scenario is that,” he told reporters.

“We will be called spoilsports but we’ll take that as a compliment.”

Tahiti have already achieved their stated aim coming into the tournament of scoring a goal and goalkeeper Mikael Roche is just hopeful they can limit the damage against Uruguay.

“Against Uruguay we need to avoid getting blown away like we did in the Spain game,” he told www.fifa.com.

“We need to leave less space for their strikers, who can read the game very quickly, and at least make life hard for them.” – Sky Sports

Nigeria meet Spain in the final Confederations Cup group game on Sunday at the Estadio Castelao in Fortaleza.

In theory there is still everything to play for; both sides could still qualify for the semifinals and both sides could still make an early exit.

In reality though, it’s going to take an unimaginable chain of events for the Africans to qualify—despite currently occupying second spot.

La Roja merely need a point, while Nigeria need to win and hope that Uruguay don’t beat Tahiti by a significant amount. – Bleacher Report

Former-NSA-Turned-Leaker Edward Snowden Is Officially On The Run With The Help Of WikiLeaks

From CNN:

Ex-National Security Agency contractor Edward Snowden has asked for asylum in Ecuador, the South American country’s foreign ministry announced Sunday as the United States urged countries to rebuff the leaker.

Snowden’s story took a dramatic turn Sunday when he flew from Hong Kong to Moscow, aided by the international anti-secrecy group WikiLeaks. The group reported that Snowden had touched down in Moscow, and CNN spotted a car with diplomatic plates and an Ecuadorian flag at Moscow’s international airport.

But WikiLeaks, which facilitates the publication of classified information and says it’s helping Snowden, did not disclose what country would be his final destination.

The United States is asking Cuba, Ecuador and Venezuela not to let in Edward Snowden, who leaked information about NSA surveillance programs, a senior administration official told CNN on Sunday. The United States also is asking those countries — rumored to be possible final destinations for Snowden — to expel him if they do admit him, the official said.
