Washington Post: “Mumbo Sauce Gets Gentrified”

I guess this should have been foreseen…from the Washington Post:

…a lowly carryout combo meal that usually costs less than $5 was elevated to an $11 appetizer on the same menu with yellowtail carpaccio and Cape Cod day boat scallops.

And so it goes at other upscale-casual restaurants across the Washington area, where you now can order mumbo sauce, also called mambo sauce, as a dip for frites served alongside mussels, or on chicken washed down with a punch of lavender-rosemary vodka, rhubarb syrup and lemon. The collision of culinary worlds was inevitable, now that some of those same carryout restaurants share their gentrified blocks with purveyors of craft beers and $23 pizzas made with house-milled flour.

KAWS Recreates MTV’s Moonman Award

I’ve always looked at KAWS as a guy to just made his art overly expensive out of exclusivity. And I still do (especially those Henny bottles….I spent way too much money to get drunk off those shits). Anyways, MTV cut the check on his latest work:

Internationally famous artist and provocateur KAWS has redesigned the VMAs’ Moonman award, giving the silver spaceman his first facelift in 30 years. And for a guy who’s reinterpreted everything from Mickey Mouse to the Michelin Man, not to mention worked with top brands like Nike and Marc Jacobs, taking on the Moonman was an opportunity he couldn’t pass up.

“It’s such a strong, iconic thing. Everyone sees the Moonman and knows right off the bat what it is,” KAWS told MTV News. “When I was first invited to do the project, I knew that I didn’t want to create something new entirely, I wanted [to do] something you see that’s immediately KAWS and immediately Moonman; people just get it.”

From Entertainment Wise:

The ‘New Day’ rapper was scheduled to perform alongside Kaskade at the MLB’s All-Star event on July 14, but was swiftly pulled, prompting advertisers to promote “surprise performances”.

A spokesperson for the organisation has not confirmed whether 50 Cent’s charges led to the cancellation, whilst the rapper’s representation are still to offer an official statement.

Meanwhile the 38-year-old has been charged with four counts of alleged misdemeanor vandalism and one count of misdemeanor domestic violence for an alleged confrontation with an ex-girlfriend.

50 Cent, also known as Curtis Jackson, has denied the claims of domestic violence and vandalism through his lawyer Scott Leemon, who stressed no arrests have been made.

Scott Leemon stated: “We have been in contact with the LA City Attorney’s Office and are currently conducting our own investigation into these allegations,”

The outcome is currently unclear until the platinum selling rapper makes an appearance at his next court hearing on July 22.
