In a touching pre-New Year’s message, “Good Morning America” co-host and cancer survivor Robin Roberts gratefully thanked her loved ones for a milestone year of health, among them she mentioned her longtime girlfriend.
It was the first time the popular ABC News morning show host had publicly acknowledged that she is a lesbian.
“I am grateful to God, my doctors and nurses for my restored good health,” Roberts wrote on her Facebook page Sunday afternoon. “I am grateful for my sister, Sally-Ann, for being my donor and giving me the gift of life.
I am grateful for my entire family, my long time girlfriend, Amber, and friends as we prepare to celebrate a glorious new year together. I am grateful for the many prayers and well wishes for my recovery. I return every one of them to you 100 fold.”
Roberts’ girlfriend, Amber Laign, is a licensed massage therapist who specializes in treating patients recovering from injuries, sources said. The couple met through mutual friends and have been in a committed relationship, living together in New York, for more than ten years.
