Miley Cyrus – MTV UK Interview; Speaks On ‘SomewhereInAmerica’ Shoutout
From MTV UK
Miley Cyrus has spoken about her very special bond with collaborator Pharrell Williams, stating she feels “protected” by the producer.
The We Can’t Stop singer has hooked-up with Pharrell on a her currently-untitled new album, with Miley exclusively telling MTV News UK how their collaboration came about.
Speaking to Laura Whitmore, the 20-year old explained: “Pharrell… was the first thing I said, just because that was kind of me at that point – this is before Blurred Lines and Get Lucky was out.
“He had kind of had radio silence for a second and because he was just coming up with this new sound, he was also reinventing himself and getting even more involved with fashion, taking himself to a whole other brand which is what, you know, I’ve been wanting to do.
“I feel protected by him ‘cos he’s like a big bro, so I feel like a whole different vibe in the studio. I kinda got stuck in there with him. Then, once me and Michael [producer Mike Will] were back together and started working on We Can’t Stop the record just got even crazier, so these collaborations have been insane.”
When probed further about her new LP, she continued: “It’s definitely like a kind of a mixture, I know who to go to for certain sounds. Pharrell has his own sound, when it comes on the radio, you immediately know that it’s him.
“And that’s the same thing with Michael Will, he’s got a sound that’s like really young, especially him being 23 – it just makes him have this sound that is fearless, just cause’ he’s young.”
She added: “I think I’ve definitely been inspired by them but they’ve also been inspired by me and so it’s just a mixture of the sounds and just making this record sound so different, it’s got such a cool combination.”
Speaking of her reaction to hip-hop royalty Jay-Z name checking her on Magna Carta Holy Grail track Somewhereinamerica, Miley revealed: “Pharrell had actually hit me [up], he was like ‘Jay-Z wants to call you and tell you that he’s shouting you out in the song tomorrow.’
“I was in Miami and was doing crazy press for my record. So I came out… and we got to go out and hear it in a club. It was fun.”

Russell Simmons, Steve Rifkind & Brian Robbins Launch All Def Music Label
From Billboard:
Def Jam co-founder, music mogul and social activist Russell Simmons, alongside film director/producer Brian Robbins (founder and president of Varsity Pictures, director of “Hardball,” “Varsity Blues”) and well-known music executive Steve Rifkind have partnered with Universal Music Group to launch All Def Music, a new “record” label whose sole focus is the promotion and development of artists via the medium of YouTube. Under the ADM umbrella, the partnership will also launch ADD Management. Rifkind has been named CEO of ADM and ADD Management. The launch was announced today in a statement from UMG.
The official launch of All Def Music is a concerted push behind the YouTube network (and underlying model of) All Def Digital that Simmons launched last year through his company Rush Digital Media. As well, a partnership between Simmons and Robbins on the venture, via Rush and Robbins’ AwesomenessTV startup, was announced earlier this year. The pair had also collaborated on hip-hop documentary “The Show” in the mid-’90s.
Rifkind, who founded Loud Records in 1992 (home of the Wu-Tang Clan, Xzibit, Three 6 Mafia among others), had most recently signed a three-year deal with Universal in early 2011 to continue on as president of SRC, the hip-hop label he founded in 2002, before exiting in September of 2012, reportedly going on to help promote a new basketball league, though details on the fate of the league remain scarce.
“The exponential growth of Internet-based video has created a powerful new outlet for music and music-based content, and the launch of All Def Music is a part of our broader strategy to partner with some of the most experienced entrepreneurs in media and technology to identify future stars and develop powerful content on the world’s fastest growing media platform,” wrote UMG chairman Lucian Grainge about the new business and its attendant model.
Simmons echoed sentiments expressed in the initial launch of the ADD YouTube network, saying in a statement that “this is the most exciting new terrain for me, to move talent across all media platforms and I couldn’t have better partners in Brian and Steve, and the most innovative of music executives, Lucian Grainge.”
ADD Management’s first announced signings are Spoken Reasons (born John A. Baker, Jr.), whose YouTube channel boasts 1.37 million subscribers, and “suburban rapper” Asher Roth, who will be featured in an “unscripted music-themed show” titled “Lemonade.”

Tim Duncan’s Wife Claims That He Is Gay During Divorce Proceedings
Taken from Dairy of a Hollywood Street King:
We’ve learned there’s one man in Tim Duncan’s life who the NBA All-Star doesn’t want the public to know about. Though we can’t yet confirm his identity, we can tell you he’s reported to be Duncan’s longtime undercover lover!
The said bromancin’ boys reportedly met back when Duncan was in college. Sources say the men lived together through college, four-years after college — and even shacked up under the same roof as Amy, during the first two-years of the Duncan’s marriage, before the baller reportedly purchased a condo for his boy. That’s why we’re told Timmy’s looking to have a gag order placed on Amy, as the couple’s divorce proceedings move forward.
Here’s the drop:
“Amy treated Tim like a bitch throughout their marriage because she knew he was fucking his BFF. Tim knows Amy was cheating on him but he’s willing to give her whatever she wants, because he doesn’t want Amy to tell the world that he’s bisexual.”
