KAWS Recreates MTV’s Moonman Award

I’ve always looked at KAWS as a guy to just made his art overly expensive out of exclusivity. And I still do (especially those Henny bottles….I spent way too much money to get drunk off those shits). Anyways, MTV cut the check on his latest work:

Internationally famous artist and provocateur KAWS has redesigned the VMAs’ Moonman award, giving the silver spaceman his first facelift in 30 years. And for a guy who’s reinterpreted everything from Mickey Mouse to the Michelin Man, not to mention worked with top brands like Nike and Marc Jacobs, taking on the Moonman was an opportunity he couldn’t pass up.

“It’s such a strong, iconic thing. Everyone sees the Moonman and knows right off the bat what it is,” KAWS told MTV News. “When I was first invited to do the project, I knew that I didn’t want to create something new entirely, I wanted [to do] something you see that’s immediately KAWS and immediately Moonman; people just get it.”

From Entertainment Wise:

The ‘New Day’ rapper was scheduled to perform alongside Kaskade at the MLB’s All-Star event on July 14, but was swiftly pulled, prompting advertisers to promote “surprise performances”.

A spokesperson for the organisation has not confirmed whether 50 Cent’s charges led to the cancellation, whilst the rapper’s representation are still to offer an official statement.

Meanwhile the 38-year-old has been charged with four counts of alleged misdemeanor vandalism and one count of misdemeanor domestic violence for an alleged confrontation with an ex-girlfriend.

50 Cent, also known as Curtis Jackson, has denied the claims of domestic violence and vandalism through his lawyer Scott Leemon, who stressed no arrests have been made.

Scott Leemon stated: “We have been in contact with the LA City Attorney’s Office and are currently conducting our own investigation into these allegations,”

The outcome is currently unclear until the platinum selling rapper makes an appearance at his next court hearing on July 22.

Danglo (@DangloMusic) Feat. Ivan Franco & Tokyo Lopez – Don’t You

danglo

The second we heard this track, we had to put it out. WotNot Music bring you a tasty slice of summer pop, with a hazy synth-pop remix from DA-10 for those balmy August evenings.

Another bright young talent, Danglo’s positive, intelligent instrumentals and penchant for infectious vocal lines have led to releases on CoolKid Music and Dandelion Lotus Records, with support from Mary Anne Hobbs, Bondax, Karma Kid, Happa and Mickey Pearce along the way.

The skippy instrumental, with its driving organ stabs and percussive bass, perfectly underlies the sweet, loving vocals of Ivan Franco & Tokyo Lopez, the tender back-and-forth ever-so-slightly reminiscent of T.E.E.D’s Garden, but with a foot firmly in ‘the London sound’.

Hardware-masters DA-10’s slo-funk remix takes the track to dreamy, summer-on-Mars territory with warm pulsing drones, deep synth bass and stuttering vocals over crisp half-time beats.

This sun-drenched release will follow Danglo and his impressive live set-up to gigs in Ibiza and London this summer, so make sure you catch him soon.

Amber (@amberbanduk) – Noah (Video)

You can preorder the Noah EP on iTunes (released 22nd July):

Amber came together at university in Nottingham where they began working on evolving their sound at the end of 2012. A cover of Imogen Heap’s ‘Hide and Seek’ was put online to keep the band’s building fan base happy whilst they were putting together what is now their debut EP, ‘Noah’.

Brazilian Rapper Shot & Killed In The Middle Of Performing Onstage

Brazilian rapper MC Daleste (born Daniel Pellegrine) was shot and killed on Saturday night while performing in Campinas. A graphic video of the incident (warning disturbing images), in which Pellegrine can be seen performing and then dropping to the stage suddenly, was posted online and had been viewed nearly four million times at press time.

It appears that Pellegrine was struck in the stomach by a bullet (possibly two) from an unknown assailant and those onstage with him initially look confused before coming to his aide. It is unclear from the video which direction the shot came from and police are reportedly treating the incident as a murder, though Daleste did not appear to have any known rivals.

According to Brazilian media reports, Pellegrine, 20, was performing at a public housing project in the San Martin neighborhood outside of Sao Paulo during the incident and was taken to a nearby hospital where he died a short time later. No suspects had been arrested in the shooting at press time. – MTV
