A woman was shot following a funeral in southeast D.C., according to police. This is the third shooting connected to a funeral in recent months.

Officers with the Metropolitan Police Department responded to the 4100 block of Alabama Ave. SE around 12:15 p.m. on Wednesday, June 28 for reports of a shooting.

According to reports, funeralgoers were coming out of New Macedonia Baptist Church when they heard the shots fired. At least one bullet went into the church building through the stained glass window.

Investigators confirmed that a woman was struck by the gunfire. She is reported in stable condition at this time.

Some are saying it’s a blessing that more people weren’t hurt because the place was packed. Church members, neighbors and community sources tell FOX 5 that it was a large funeral service for the mother of a famous D.C. boxer, Mark “Too Sharp” Johnson.

A neighbor said just this morning, church members were outside feeding those in need across street. Then, he came home to find police tape and nearly a dozen evidence markers spread across the area.

Migo Lee & Greedy Amongst Those Arrested During Kennedy Street Crew Bust

From The Washington Post, where you can read even more on the story:

Authorities have arrested a dozen members of a suspected street crew operating along Kennedy Street in Northwest Washington on drug and gun charges and seized 42 firearms, along with fentanyl and cocaine, federal prosecutors and D.C. police announced Tuesday.

The investigation into the Kennedy Street Crew was led by the Violent Crime Impact Team, a task force of federal and local law enforcement personnel. Police said eight of the seized firearms had been modified to fire as fully automatic machine guns.

Investigators with the IRS participated in the investigation, targeting what authorities described as shell companies suspected of being used to launder proceeds from drug trafficking. No specific details of that aspect of the case were revealed in court papers filed Tuesday.

“If an IRS criminal investigator is part of this case, you know you really tripped up,” interim D.C. police chief Ashan M. Benedict told reporters after the federal indictments were unsealed in U.S. District Court in D.C.

“They’re not really looking at nickel-and-dime investigations,” Benedict said at a news conference. “They’re here because the Kennedy Street Crew is not some corner crew. This is an organized criminal organization.”

Matthew M. Graves, the U.S. attorney for the District, said some information remains sealed as police search for several more suspects in the case. He said arrests were made over the past 36 hours.

Judah & Wes Felton – ‘It’s Not You, It’s Me’ (Buy/Stream)

An affordable and very creative project from two of D.C.’s illest veterans in the game. You can check it out at this link… description below.

This project was born from a beat tape I created called “Dirty Love”. Wes Felton heard the beat tape and got instantly inspired by the beats. Wes wrote songs to every beat, sent over the vocals and “It’s Not You, It’s Me!” was born. Five records exploring the ebbs and flows of relationships.

Also included is the original Dirty Love Beat Tape, Visual Storybook, The original samples used and various cover art.

We hope you enjoy and thank you for the support.
