Stream: Tidus [New Age]

TiDUS+albumPortraitcopyOne of the many alternative rap cats I suggest keeping an eye on is Tidus.

…Did an artist highlight on him a while back after he dropped his internet cult-classic video, “Delancey”, but recently he released his debut full length LP entitled [New Age].

Finally had the opportunity to sit down and give it a good listen. …Pretty good project after all. Wasn’t sure what to expect, but Tidus managed to hold down his unique style of trippy, spaced out rhymes quite well. [New Age] was satisfying and serves to further brand Tidus as an “individual” withing the rap game. Check out some of the highlights. …Petty dope if you ask me. #Dazed&Confused

“Delancey” (which I’m glad they included on this album), is obviously one of the standout tracks. …But new tracks such as “Escalators”, “Without a Care”, “Seams”, “Nimbus”, and personal favorite “Of Light”, …seem to have the strength to standout on their own. Making for quite a few notables.

Posted the highlights of the album below. though. Enjoy…

Video: “Stay” – Chiefs ft. Nick Acquroff (of Sons et al.) [Reign Dance]

I had a feeling this was gonna be dope as soon as I cut it on. …And I was right!

Screen-Shot-2013-11-04-at-8.04.18-AM-400x400…It’s the debut track, and the first track I’d ever heard, from producer Chiefs. Off his debut EP [Reign Dance].

The EP doesn’t release for a couple more days, but this is enough to hold me over. A great first impression.

Just let the melodies of singer Nick Acquroff settle in about halfway in and you’ll be sold. …Posted “Stay” below. Enjoy…

Jon Stewart & The Daily Show Blasts JAY Z Over Barney’s Partnership

In a recent episode, The Daily Show went to town on JAY Z, accusing the rapper of being a hypocrite in the way of Barney’s reported profiling of young Blacks. What are your thoughts?

Jon Stewart took on the Barney’s racial profiling controversy on Wednesday night, and along with Senior Black Correspondent Larry Wilmore, tore into Jay-Z for refusing to address it head-on when he’s had no problem boycotting over other highly-charged racial issues. After joking that the “shop-and-frisk” may have just been a run-in with the “fashion police,” Stewart called out Jay-Z for not wanting to make “snap judgments” on this racial issue, involving a company that he happens to have business dealings with. This led Wilmore to cry, “Jay-Z doesn’t care about black people!”

Wilmore said it’s unfair to expect Jay-Z to boycott everything, “he’s not Al Sharpton with better rhymes!” He charged that Jay-Z has become “the man,” adding, “He is the danger! He is the one who frisks! He’s not Jay-Z! He’s Jay-Z Penney!”

But at least it’s a sign of progress, because as Wilmore pointed out, “white people have been watching their musical icons sell out to corporations for decades!”

Watchdog Ofcom Will Reportedly Monitor Capital XTRA Following Musical Backlash

From The Voice, where you can read more on the story:

BROADCASTING WATCHDOG Ofcom has revealed plans to listen to audio recordings from Capital XTRA’s new shows before taking a final decision over whether to launch a full-scale investigation.

The body was forced to act after receiving numerous complaints that the station formerly known as Choice FM was not sticking to its format agreement, described as “music and news…for listeners of African and Afro-Caribbean origin in the north London area, but with crossover appeal to other listeners who appreciate urban contemporary black music.”

Capital XTRA launched on October 7 as an “urban dance” station and broadcasts on Choice’s old FM home of 96.9 and 107.1 in London and nationally on the digital platform known as Digital Audio Broadcasting (DAB). It is anticipated that between 2015 and 2019, the Government plans to migrate all AM and FM analogue services to DAB.

But as well as the name change, a number of DJs including Daddy Ernie and Martin Jay were axed and replaced with more dance specialists such as Swedish DJ Avicii. It means there are no shows dedicated to reggae, soca or gospel.

An Ofcom spokesperson said: “Ofcom can confirm that it has received complaints about Capital Xtra’s compliance with the published formats of its licences.
