PICS/RECAP: The Midnite BBQ 2019

If you were looking for food (and libations) alongside dope music of all kinds, then this year’s Midnite BBQ was for you. Featuring a slew of performers (including Backyard Band, who probably stole the show over all) and food trucks from around the city, the (mostly) merciful weather couldn’t keep the crowd from showing up and having a good time.

Check out some of our random shots from the day/night below. Definitely looking forward to next year.

THIS WEEKEND: The Midnite BBQ (Feat. AlunaGeorge, Saweetie, BYB & More)

Food and music in one setting? And it’s in SE? Count us in for The Midnite BBQ, which is being described as “a full festival that unites food, culture and music, set against the landscape of the Nation’s Capitol.” The music headliners include AlunaGeorge, Saweetie, Keys N Krates, Melii, Shallou, Backyard Band and more. N.O.R.E. and Drinks Champs will be joining, along with Grits & Biscuits, Everyday PPL and Litty In The City. Roaming Rooster, Ivy City Smokehouse and more will provide food for the event; Chef Roble Ali and Little Bacon Bear will handle hosting duties.

The Midnite BBQ takes place at the Gateway Pavillion this Saturday, May 25th. Head to the official website for more information.

Broccoli City Festival 2019 (RECAP/PICS)

“The power we bring as a unit is what compels us [Broccoli City] to create a space to celebrate, and provide programmatic resources and education through uplifting our supporters and extended community,” said Brandon McEachern, co-founder of Broccoli City Festival. “The community serves as the catalyst for all that we do, and we are thrilled to continue providing live entertainment experiences that mobilize millennials around issues plaguing our most vulnerable communities.”

I personally don’t think there’s anything better than seeing your hometown benefit from an increase in arts and culture. Case in point: D.C.’s own Broccoli City Festival (and event stemming from the urban community-based Broccoli City, which also now owns a stylish food-and-drink establishment to boot) is now seven years in the game, and has found itself moving from the smaller (yet-still-dope) Half Street Fairground to the larger space on St. Elizabeth’s campus, and watching their ascent to greatness and longevity is absolutely exciting.

For 2019, BCFest has moved once again to the massive FedEx Field, and — like their venue choices — the line-up of performers have raised the bar as well. The absolutely amazing Childish Gambino and Lil Wayne (who continued to showcase a seemingly infinite catalog of hits) were the headliners, joined by the likes of 6LACK, Gunny and Lil Baby, Ella Mai, WizKid and more — shout out to local stars like New Impressionz, (Phil) Adé and YBN Cordae getting their shine on stage as well. Added to that was the equally important BroccoliCon, great food, plenty of small business activity and other related activities (including a 5K run), making for an enjoyable week/end in the city.

Below, you can check out some snaps from the festival. We can only expect BCFest to get even bigger next year.

Oddisee & Evidence are Going on Tour…

…which is dope, except for the fact that Oddisee won’t be performing on the D.C. stop of all places. We’d imagine there’s a good reason, but…sigh. Check the dates below.

Shy Glizzy Is Going On Tour With Big Sean & Playboi Carti

Shy Glizzy continues to make major moves in 2018. Big Sean has announced his Unfriendly Reminder tour, which will see him joined by Glizzy along with Playboi Carti and Gashi. The D.C. date is May 5th.

LINE-UP: Broccoli City Festival 2018

You know what? We can remember when Trillectro made it’s stamp as the premiere music festival in Washington, D.C. (not Maryland, not Virginia — D.C.). We can also remember when that was followed by a slew of other D.C. festivals — whether or not Broccoli City’s big event was in this grouping is something we’re honestly not sure about. Regardless, it’s amazing to see BC Fest continue to outdo themselves every year — which is exactly what they’ve done for 2018.

Check out the line-up: Migos, Miguel and Cardi B will be handling headliner duties while Daniel Caesar, Nipsey Hussle, H.E.R., Rich The Kid, Lightshow and more provide support. Too say this is concrete awesomeness would be a severe understatement.

Chief Keef Announces ‘Two Zero One Seven’ Tour (UPDATE)

B3WARE

UPDATE #2: Looks like Chief Keef is free.

Check out the dates above. UPDATE: Not sure if Chief Keef will be making all of these — he and members of his crew were recently arrested for home invasion…godspeed to the producer (the victim) who went to the police. We would have given the guy — Ramsey Tha Great — some credit as a civilian if he weren’t brandishing guns on social media prior to the incident. You, sir, are an idiot.
