Music News

Birdman sits down with MTV and says he wants to release 100 albums a year between Cash/Young Money and We The Best.

“Right now, as we stand, we have [48 acts] between Young Money, Cash Money, We the Best. The goal is to keep developing and keep putting out, so to do that we have to keep buckling down, grindin’ hard and stayin’ focused. And that’s a big challenge, to put a hundred out.

“Everybody that’s doin’ this — outside of who we done rocked with — is really an enemy to me. So if you ain’t on the team, I’m after your head. If you’re doin’ what we’re doin’. We wanna do the most numbers every year, each year, the most digital numbers. That’s what we ’bout, if you doin’ this music and you ain’t rockin’ with us, you’re on the menu so that’s just what it is.”

Vast Aire (@VASTAIRE2090) Hip Hop DX Interview

Vast Aire, former member of legendary underground hip hop group Cannibal Ox was interviewed by Hip Hop DX on his current music and a possible reunion for the group. Excerpts below, link here.

DX: You recently said that the timing is right now for a new Cannibal Ox record. I think fans are excited but also why is the timing right now for that new album?

Vast Aire: I mean [Vordul Mega and I are] in the lab working on music all the time so as far as us doing a full-length the timing was just right. We just decided to rock out the tour, come back from the tour top of the year and then just zone out in the lab. The timing was just, we’re always making music but a full-length it takes some time and some concentration so the energy was right the timing was right, the fact that we’re coming fourth with our label, IGC Records, we’re just bringing it all together…We only have a couple of songs right now so I can’t really, I can just say that the vibes are on right now and we’re making some fire. That’s why we wanted to get back on the road, figure out some things. I like touring all the time, Vordul doesn’t like touring that much so it was special that he’s in that mode and we were like let’s hit the road, it’s gonna break us, it’s gonna wring us out and then we get to come home and just zone out on the record. We don’t have a date or anything, we just are starting to compile all of the crazy components that are going to be down with the record. It’s gonna be nuts, we’re definitely gonna be zoning out (laughs).

@DawnRichard – The Kid French Interview

With the music industry so wrapped around the notion of numbers, commercial music and sales, its always great to meet people who still have a genuine passion about making music for its initial use. I sat with Dawn Richard (former member of Danity Kane and Diddy-Dirty Money) to talk about her breath of fresh air as an independent solo artist and being the boss of her own ship. If you haven’t been keeping up with the New Orleans songstress you’d be shocked to know that she recently held the #1 spot on iTunes R&B charts for her Armor On EP with no major label and just recently scored a crazy distribution deal for her January 15th release of Golden Heart. (which she promised me she wasn’t pushing back) Take a look as me and Dawn talk about her life as a solo career, what drives her passion for music and receiving respect from R&B pioneers Brandy and Kelly Rowland.
