Last week, CBE’s Uptown Killa and Lil Tay celebrated the release of their new mixtape, Chuuurchonometry Volume 1, hosted by Bigga Rankin. Today, we have an exclusive stream of the project. Rick Flare produced the majority of these songs, helping to craft a unique sound with Tay and Killa. Chuuurchonometry Vol. 1 isn’t quite “Trap Rap” or more traditional “Hip Hop.” CBE’s sound is somewhere in-between and unique, Street Rap with two distinct voices and stories over original production. This is the new Uptown sound. The mixtape is available for purchase on iTunes, with hard copies also available. If you like it, purchase a copy.

Tonight, Shy Glizzy took to Twitter to ask most of the biggest names in D.C. Rap about uniting and try to end disputes in the city. Aside from a reported spike in violence this year, a number of past disputes have caused problems between a number of these men, some less public than others. Here’s hoping they can put all of that behind them and that D.C. can start empowering itself.

Icee and Clipstar link up once again for one of my favorites off of the Thriller project, the floaty, deconstructed “Gang.” Who else is making music like this? Nobody.

Shy Glizzy’s highly anticipated new mixtape, For Trappers Only, was just released. FTO is the first project after his XXL Freshman cover and is Zaytoven’s most recent collaboration. Shy is the latest in a list of notable Trap Rappers to drop a whole tape with the ATL-based producer, and the only one so far to be from outside Atlanta. For Trappers Only features buzzing UK rapper Danny Seth, the Sauce Twinz from Houston, Boosie, Ty$, the late Dex Osama and Shy’s brother 3.

Straight out of the dorm room…Heaven’s Next Ill Child is putting out some new raps, be very afraid. No exaggeration, this is the closest to recent “Underground Rap” that I’ve heard in years, in the best way possible. “Yom Kippur” shows that HNIC is comfortable over the production of others (Daringer came through with the dustiest loops) while “What’s Good God” revisits some classics samples, including Sun Ra. Lyrically, the Maryland-based producer and rapper casually switches from braggadocios to conscious, while referencing local Go-Go, Adult Swim, Anime (Bleach, I think) and Assata Shakur…My excuse for being late on this is that (maybe) I was busy fasting and thinking on Yom Kippur instead of getting on here.
