Comedian Red Grant Announces D.C. Mayoral Candidacy for 2022
From the Washington Informer, where you can read the full story:
District native and comedian Rodney “Red” Grant declared his candidacy for the mayoral contest in 2022 on May 15 in the historic Anacostia neighborhood’s Old Market House Square in Ward 8.
Grant told a crowd of 30 people the late abolitionist and orator Frederick Douglass served as an inspiration to run for mayor.
“I am making this announcement in the shadow of the Frederick Douglass house,” Grant said. “He was a person who fought for freedom and saw a vision that people could not see. He never wavered from that vision. My candidacy for mayor of Washington, D.C., is because this is the greatest city in the world. This is a great time for inclusion and not exclusion.”
Grant made his announcement while D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser hasn’t publicly indicated whether she will run for reelection in 2022. However, 52 percent of respondents in a Washington Post poll said Bowser should seek a third term. In March, D.C. Attorney General Karl A. Racine said he won’t challenge Bowser but will seek a third term.

V.A. Rapper Bugzie The Don Hit With Fed Charges Over Capitol Riot
He also recently dropped an album using his Capitol riot appearance as it’s artwork, which — to us — is reason enough to add for your listening pleasure below. Anyways, from WUSA9, where you can read the complete story:
Antionne DeShaun Brodnax, who performs under the stage name Bugzie the Don, is facing criminal charges for disorderly conduct and entering the U.S. Capitol building in January. Brodnax is not accused of any violence or theft during his roughly 40 minutes inside the building, according to court documents.
In an interview with investigators, Brodnax reportedly said he traveled to Washington, D.C., prior to January 6 to shoot a music video. The charging documents say Brodnax told investigators he “saw a rally of which many participants descended on the U.S. Capitol building” then followed the crowd to the Capitol “and entered the building after United States Capitol Police (USCP) moved the gates that blockaded the door.”
Once inside, prosecutors say Brodnax “walked around and took pictures and videos” at one point allegedly asking another rioter to take a photo of him sitting on a statue in Statuary Hall. While still inside, court documents say Broadnax started getting messages on social media that he was seen in footage broadcast by CNN.
