In two operations in Africa nearly 3,000 miles apart, U.S. military forces went after two high-value targets over the weekend.
One operation took place early Saturday in the Libyan capital of Tripoli, when U.S. forces captured Abu Anas al Libi, an al Qaeda operative wanted for his role in the deadly 1998 bombings of two U.S. embassies in Africa.
In the second raid, a team of U.S. Navy SEALs in southern Somalia targeted the top leader of Al-Shabaab, a terrorist group linked with al Qaeda.
As al Libi was returning to his house from morning prayers, a group of 10 men surprised him, a person who knows al Libi’s family said. Citing al Libi’s wife, Noman Benotman told CNN that the al Qaeda operative tried to reach into his car’s glove compartment to grab his gun — but the men quickly snatched him. A source close to Libyan intelligence said the 10 men were masked.
The Saturday operation was conducted with the knowledge of the Libyan government, said one U.S. official. The Pentagon said the U.S. military was holding al Libi in a “secure location” outside Libya.
He will be taken to New York on Sunday, a source with knowledge of the capture and proceedings told CNN.
The Libyan interim government called the U.S. capture a kidnapping and has requested an explanation from Washington about the raid, the country’s state news agency reported Sunday. Libya emphasized its citizens should be tried in Libya if they are facing charges, LANA reported.
In the Somalia raid, the SEALs came under fire and withdrew before they could confirm whether they killed their target, a senior U.S. official said.
An administration official told CNN on Sunday that members of SEAL Team Six, the same unit that killed Osama Bin Laden in Pakistan, led the raid.
“One (mission) could have gone without the other,” said retired Lt. Col. Rick Francona, a CNN military analyst, about the two missions. “But the fact that they did them both, I think, is a real signal that the United States — no matter how long it takes — will go after these targets.”

Very important lesson for drug traffickers: Do not store your half-ton of weed in the backseat of your car.
A Brazilian drug smuggler did just that, police say, and the man was killed when he crashed into a tree while being chased by police … because the 1,100 pounds of weed came barreling forward and crushed him against the steering wheel. The Daily Mail has the crazy pictures.
Federal police started the chase when the man didn’t stop at a road block, Jalopnik reports, citing local media.
The chase went on for three miles before the as-yet-unidentified man lost control of his car; he was killed instantly.

First, a little background. The 5 rappers were supposed to perform Wembley Arena in London on Sept. 12, 2012. After the promoter advanced a big chunk of the fees, Meek Mill threw a monkey wrench in the works by trying to postpone the concert. They negotiated another date but everything broke down and now the promoter wants all the money back.
So back to the question. Who’s the biggest dog. Here’s what each rapper got as a fee:

— Omarion: $12,000
— Wale: $35,000

It’s 2013. Whether we except it or not, buying music is a choice, not a requisite. When I think of the psychology behind what makes me purchase an artists album, it’s always a form of reciprocation. Almost like a token of appreciation after I experience the product.
The reason I chose to charge $100 dollars each copy and only start with 1000 units is because I tailor making my music for those who are listening…it’s not about stepping outside of what I’m known for in hopes of new discovery. What that means less is fans that are better served. (Kinda like the effect of less kids in a class room leading to a better education)
I’m more or less focused on fully serving the ones that have connected all ready. That being said its a value over volume thing…if I’m goin to offer a product made with no compromise or concession to the platforms (radio, A&R opinion, label bias) ect…ect..then the way we sale it has to change.

As an artist my goal is to inspire…entertain…motivated…and most importantly INOVATE. And as lovers of art we should base our purchase on the artists ability to do so. That being said, if my presence in the game has had any of those effects on you $100 is your form of saying don’t change.
It ISN’T the price of the plastic case and polyurethane disc…it’s the price of Revolution! The price of Rebellion against an industry that has tricked us all into making products that have no soul for fear of not being heard if we don’t.
I have over 400k followers on twitter 140k on Instagram and 400k on Facebook but what good are they if they don’t mobilize around my releases? if only 1000 of those people are engaged to the point of brand loyalty then that’s who I’m focused on.
That being said: I fux w who fux w me. I have no plans to change up or go left on my people for hopes of a lager audience. And I have a feeling that this 1st 100 will be the evangelist to my cause.

Thousands of supporters of Egypt’s Muslim Brotherhood have defied a government-imposed crackdown to march through Cairo and Alexandria following Friday prayers.
In Cairo, Islamist supporters marched towards the site of sit-ins that had been broken up with tremendous force by the military in August. Army vehicles fired live rounds in the direction of Muslim Brotherhood supporters, who had been pushed away from the city’s Tahrir Square by security forces, a witness told Reuters. At least one Muslim Brotherhood supporter was reportedly shot dead in the clashes.
Onlookers joined soldiers in their assault, throwing rocks at the demonstrators who then threw them back. Muslim Brotherhood supporters chanted slogans calling for the downfall of the military chief General Abdel Fatah al-Sisi. Riot police had earlier fired teargas to push back the march.
Egyptian state security was boosted around Rabaa al-Adaweya mosque, the larger of the Brotherhood’s two former Cairo sit-ins, as the body of protesters approached, the state news agency reported.
Egypt has been gripped by political and economic turmoil since Sisi overthrew the Islamist leader Mohamed Morsi, the country’s first freely elected president, on 3 July after mass protests against his rule. Hundreds of people were killed when the security forces broke up the Brotherhood sit-ins in August.
The Brotherhood is facing one of the toughest crackdowns in its 85-year history. Hundreds of supporters have been killed by security forces and leaders have been jailed, but small protests are still taking place.
Security sources said a 2,000-strong march in the Maadi suburb south of Cairo was heading in the direction of the square, but was still several kilometres away.

The woman who led police on a high-speed chase near the U.S. Capitol before being shot dead had a history of mental illness and believed President Obama was electronically monitoring her Connecticut home in order to broadcast her life on television, sources said.
Sources told ABC News that Connecticut police had twice in 2012 been called by Miriam Carey’s boyfriend, who reported the woman was delusional, acting irrationally and putting her infant daughter in danger.
Carey, 34, a dental hygienist from Stamford, Conn., was killed by police Thursday after trying to ram a White House gate and leading cops on a chase down Pennsylvania Avenue with her 1-year-old daughter in the car. The toddler was uninjured and placed in police custody.
According to sources Carey believed she was the “prophet of Stamford” and was capable of communicating with Obama.
Her mother, Idella Carrey, told ABC News that her daughter had been hospitalized after suffering post-partum depression.
On Dec. 10, 2012, police were called to Carey’s home by her boyfriend Eric Francis, 54, father of her baby. Francis told police Carey was emotionally disturbed and he believed his daughter was in danger, according to sources.
Carey told police President Obama had placed Stamford on lockdown and had arranged to have her home electronically monitored and her life broadcast on television, sources said.
Police handcuffed Carey and remanded her for a mental health evaluation. According to sources, Carey had a family history of schizophrenia and was taking medication for a mental illness.
On Dec. 21, Francis again called police to report his girlfriend was “off her medication” and acting erratically.
In January, the source said, a state social worker met with Carey and Francis and Francis told the social worker that Carey was “100 percent back to normal.” Carey told the social worker she had been diagnosed with post-partum depression, was on prescription medication, and was receiving treatment, the source said.

A San Francisco man accused of running the huge online drug marketplace known as Silk Road, and of seeking to have two people killed to protect the lucrative enterprise, is innocent of all charges filed against him, his attorney said Friday.
Federal prosecutors allege that Ross William Ulbricht, 29, is “Dread Pirate Roberts,” the once-anonymous administrator of a website that allowed visitors to shield their identities as they bought and sold cocaine, heroin and other drugs.
The site, now seized, resembled mainstream retail businesses like Amazon or eBay, with the operator collecting commission on deals.
Ulbricht was arrested Tuesday in the Glen Park branch of the San Francisco Public Library and appeared in U.S. District Court in San Francisco on Friday. He faces charges that include narcotics trafficking, money laundering and attempting to murder a witness.
The detention hearing was put over until Wednesday. Prosecutors said they expect to transfer Ulbricht to the East Coast, where he faces a criminal complaint filed in New York and a grand jury indictment handed down in Maryland.
Ulbricht did not enter a plea. But his public defender, Brandon LeBlanc, said after leaving the courtroom, “We deny all charges,” while declining further comment. Ulbricht, a Texas native who moved to San Francisco a year ago, remains in custody.
Federal investigators spent two years infiltrating Silk Road, which used Tor, a free software that was designed to hide online communications, and bitcoins, an anonymous digital currency, to conceal user activities. The FBI said it located Ulbricht by tracking his online activity.
Twice in the past year, authorities alleged, Ulbricht sought to have people executed to protect Silk Road, though in both cases the threats apparently weren’t real.
In one case, they said, Ulbricht paid $80,000 in bitcoins to have a former website employee tortured and killed after he was arrested. But according to prosecutors, the anonymity of Silk Road backfired on Ulbricht after he asked a purported drug smuggler to carry out the hit.
The smuggler was actually an undercover agent, the government said – the same agent who had arrested the employee.

Authorities were called to the Mall on Friday afternoon to respond to reports that a man had set himself on fire.
The man was taken to the hospital with “life threatening injuries,” Fire Department spokesman Timothy J. Wilson said.
“No indication on our end of what caused the fire,” Wilson said. “So how it started, don’t know.”
Hugh Carew, a D.C. police spokesman, said the initial call that came in referred to a man who set himself on fire on the Mall.
Witnesses, standing blocks from the path of a car chase that tore through downtown Washington on Thursday, described the smell of burning flesh and seeing passersby come to the man’s aid.
Nicole Didyk of the District was jogging on the mall when she witnessed the incident.
She said she saw about five men using T-shirts to smother flames on a man in the middle of the Mall at 7th Street and Jefferson Drive. She said she did not see flames on him, but his “face and arms were charred” and the ground nearby was in flames.
Didyk said she spoke to one of the men who tried to put out the flames afterward. That man told her that the injured man had faced the Capitol, doused himself on fire and then lit himself on fire.
The man who tried to put out the flames said the victim told the people who had come to his rescue “thank you” afterward.
Meghan Van Heertum was walking on the Mall when she saw a massive police response near Seventh and Jefferson.
“I saw cops fly up from all directions,” Van Heertum said.
She saw one of the officers kick something that was on fire, near a man that was lying on the ground in the middle of the Mall. What appeared to be a red gas can and yellow tarp were seen near that location.
The flames were only a couple of feet off the ground, she said. She did not see flames coming from the man, but the air “smelled strongly of burning flesh.”
Authorities were alerted at 4:24 p.m., and the fire department arrived about three minutes later, Wilson said.
D.C. police spokeswoman Saray Leon said the man was “conscious and breathing” when firefighters responded.
A Metro spokeswoman reported that a Metro Transit Police officer also saw the incident and tried to help.

Lauryn Hill IS NO LONGER A PRISONER … the ex-Fugees singer has been released from federal prison after serving her 3-month sentence for tax evasion.
According to the Bureau of Prisons, Hill — aka Inmate #64600-050 — was released early Friday morning from the minimum security Federal Correctional Institution in Danbury, Connecticut.
Hill had been locked up since July 8 … after failing to pay taxes on more than $1.8 million in income she earned between 2005 and 2007.
Fun Fact: The prison where Lauryn served time is same prison that “Orange Is the New Black” takes place in. LOOK OUT FOR CRAZY EYES!!!

Rapper Jim Jones was arrested for cruising around high — and allegedly at high speed — this morning in the Bronx … TMZ has learned.
According to law enforcement sources … NYPD pulled JJ over around 2 AM for speeding on a highway … and when officers approached his Chevy Impala (baller) — they say he had bloodshot eyes and looked out of it.
We’re told they put Jones through some field sobriety tests … which he did NOT pass with flying colors.
Sources tell us JJ refused a breathalyzer test back at the police station, and was booked for driving under the influence of drugs. We’re told the drug is believed to be marijuana.
Jones has been busted a few other times in NY and NJ, but still can’t touch DMX’s stats. Nobody does.

Kanye left Milan early this morning and landed in Newark. He’s about to board a plane for LAX and our sources say he will leave the terminal and walk right into the always-present paparazzi frenzy — by his choice.
Kanye has told friends it’s too much of a hassle to fly out of his way to avoid LAX. When he left for Paris, he took a private jet to San Francisco and picked up an international flight. As we reported, his reps wanted him to avoid LAX because they didn’t want to give prosecutors in his pending criminal case more ammo, in case another confrontation erupts.
Kanye is determined to remain cool, regardless of how the photogs act. But he’s also hedging his bets. He’s spending a couple of grand for 3 security people to flank him as he leaves the airport.
