WSHH’s Lee “Q” O’Denat’s Cause Of Death Revealed

From the L.A. Times, where you can read more on the story:

The founder of the popular and controversial website WorldStarHipHop.com, Lee O’Denat, died of natural causes as a result of severe buildup of plaque near his heart and obesity, according to a full autopsy report.

O’Denat, who was known as Q, died suddenly in January at a massage parlor in San Diego.

The unexpected death of the 43-year-old prompted an investigation by the coroner’s office. The San Diego County medical examiner’s office completed the investigative report this week and released it to The Times under a public records request.

The findings support the coroner’s initial opinion that the website mogul died of natural causes, but the report revealed new details about the circumstances.

Dan Morse published an article in the Post last night about the details behind the unfortunate killing of local rap talent YC in February. Even after reading the article, some of the details are a little confusing, but the gist is, the artist met an unfortunate end, shot in Montgomery Village in a robbery-turned-wrong. The story is heart-breaking, regardless of the exact details. Cee, born Waasi Harron Raheem Young was 20. For more info, you can read the article here.

Vic Mensa Arrested On Felony Gun Charge

From TMZ:

Vic Mensa got pulled over for a traffic violation, but ended up spending the night in jail for having a gun in his car with a permit — the wrong one, allegedly.

The Roc Nation rapper was stopped in Beverly Hills last week for running a stop sign and having tinted windows … according to law enforcement sources. We’re told he informed cops he had a gun in his car and showed them his concealed carry permit. The problem is … cops say the permit is for another state.

According to the police report … Vic was arrested and booked on a felony count of carrying a concealed weapon. After one night in jail, he was released on $35,000 bail.

Mensa had a run-in with Bev Hills PD last summer … and felt he was racially profiled while shopping.

Future Makes History With Two Back-To-Back Number One Albums

From Billboard:

As expected, Future debuts at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 albums chart (dated March 18) with HNDRXX, his fifth chart topper. It replaces his own self-titled album, which bowed at No. 1 a week earlier.

Future is the first act in the nearly 61-year history of the chart to achieve back-to-back No. 1 debuts in successive weeks. The rapper is also the first artist to succeed himself at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 at all (counting not only debuts) since 1968. He’s additionally the first soloist ever to claim the honor.

The Billboard 200 chart ranks the most popular albums of the week in the U.S. based on multi-metric consumption, which includes traditional album sales, track equivalent albums (TEA) and streaming equivalent albums (SEA). The new March 18-dated chart will be posted in full to Billboard’s websites on Tuesday, March 7.

HNDRXX bows with 121,000 equivalent album units earned in the week ending March 2, according to Nielsen Music. Of that sum, 48,000 were in traditional album sales, 63,000 were in SEA and 11,000 were in TEA. (All units are rounded to the nearest thousand.) HNDRXX was released on Feb. 24 through A-1/Freebandz/Epic Records. It follows Future’s self-titled No. 1 debut, which was issued on the same imprints/label, on Feb. 17. The self-titled album slips from No. 1 to No. 2 on the latest chart with 64,000 units (down 54 percent).

With Future’s HNDRXX at No. 1 and his self-titled release at No. 2, the rapper is the first act in nearly one year to have both the Nos. 1 and 2 albums simultaneously. The last act to do so was Prince, following his death last year, when, on the May 7-dated chart, he re-entered the list at No. 1 with The Very Best of Prince and at No. 2 with the Purple Rain soundtrack. Before that, Nelly was the last act to manage the achievement, way back on Oct. 2, 2004, when he debuted at Nos. 1 and 2 with Suit and Sweat, respectively.

Only 10 acts, including Future, have been Nos. 1 and 2 at the same time since 1963, when Billboard combined the Billboard 200 from previously separate mono and stereo album charts into one overall list.

Baltimore Police Indicted On Federal Racketeering Charges

These cops were robbing drivers? From NBC, where you can read the full story:

Seven Baltimore police officers were indicted Wednesday for federal racketeering crimes ranging from filing false overtime claims while actually at a casino to robbing a driver during a traffic stop.

One of the cops is facing a separate charge for drug distribution.

Investigators said the crimes — some of them committed by some members of the elite Gun Trace Task Force — took place last year as the Department of Justice investigated the Baltimore Police Department for use of excessive force, among other violations. The racketeering investigation was conducted in secret over the past year as part of what officials described as a sweeping reform effort across the department.

Those indicted include Det. Momodu Bondeva Kenton “GMoney” Gondo, 34; Det. Evodio Calles Hendrix, 32; Det. Daniel Thomas Hersl, 47; Sgt. Wayne Earl Jenkins, 36; Det. Jemell Lamar Rayam, 36; Det. Marcus Roosevelt Taylor, 30; and Det. Maurice Kilpatrick Ward, 36.

Maryland U.S. Attorney Rod J. Rosenstein said the crimes were an abuse of power.

“They were involved in stopping people who had not committed crimes and not only seizing their money but pocketing it,” he said. “These are really simply robberies by people who are wearing police uniforms.”

Baltimore City Police Commissioner Kevin Davis said the indictments were “a punch in the gut” for the Baltimore Police Department. “These officers are 1930s-style gangsters as far as I’m concerned,” he said.

Kodak Black Is Apparently “Saddened” By His Recent Arrest

Of course he’s blown, we all would be. As seen on SunSentinel:

Kodak Black knew it was possible he could be jailed again as he was driven to court Tuesday morning. The night before, his attorneys had told him about a warrant out for his arrest.

“Saddened” was Black’s reaction, one of those attorneys, Allan Stephen Zamren, said Wednesday.

Black, who was out on bail in an unrelated criminal sexual conduct charge in South Carolina, was set to perform in New York on Wednesday and in the coming days in Philadelphia; Rochester, N.Y.; Wallingford, Conn.’ and Columbus, Ohio. Those tour dates are now postponed.

News was also emerging when Black was arrested that his latest single, “Tunnel Vision,” released Feb. 17, had debuted in the 27th spot on the Billboard Top 40. The video, which takes on race relations in the Trump era, had over 27 million views as of Wednesday.

Black, 19, whose given name is Dieuson Octave, was taken into custody in a Fort Lauderdale courtroom on Tuesday on allegations that he violated the conditions of his house arrest. According to an arrest warrant filed by a Florida Department of Corrections officer, Octave failed to complete a mandated anger management program and went on unauthorized trips to a Miami strip club on Feb. 1 and a boxing match in Ohio on Feb. 18.

The warrant alleges that videos showed Octave at the boxing match and the Miami strip club. It wasn’t clear where or how the videos had been seen, but Octave is a prolific poster of photos and videos to his social media accounts, and those include posts on Feb. 18 showing him at the boxing event.

Octave’s lawyers dispute the allegations. They say that he was allowed to be at the boxing match and that the strip club incident was a misunderstanding. They also say they’ll address the anger management allegations in court.

DAMN: Carter Barron Closed For (At Least) The Remainder Of 2017

From WTOP:

The National Park Service’s popular Carter Barron Amphitheatre will be closed for the 2017 season —and probably more after that.

The amphitheater stage has structural deficiencies and can’t safely support the weight of performances, the Park Service has determined.

It’s news that cancels a summerlong series of concerts and performances at the venue, located near the Rock Creek Park Tennis Center off 16th Street NW.

“As soon as we learned about the stage, we halted scheduling any performances to protect performers, our staff and the public,” said acting Rock Creek Park Superintendent Frank Young.

“We’re doing everything we can to fix the Carter Barron stage as quickly as possible,” he said.

The Park Service has considered several options, including temporarily shoring up the stage; a carbon fiber wrap that would extend the amphitheater’s life to 25 years; or a complete rehabilitation, which could extend its life for another 100 years.

Complete rehab of the stage is considered to be the best choice, and the Park Service is seeking funding options for potential solutions.

See pictures of the structural deficiencies on the Park Service website.

Future Blasts Rocko On Social Media; Rocko Responds

If you’re not familiar, initial reports are claiming that Future’s overload of music releases are in an attempt to pay back Rocko, who sued Future over unpaid debts (Future is signed to Rocko’s record label). Here’s what Hip-Hop Overload said:

Someone in Atlanta is smiling after details we got in the Rocko & Future lawsuit. Word we got was Future will give Rocko all royalties from his next two albums, he will also give Rocko 50% of touring revenues for next two years also. Future signed a 360 agreement with LA Reid which allows Epic to recoup the advance they foreited to help Future pay back Rocko.

Future will now give a percentage of any deals made outside of music to Epic until his back advancements are paid or for the next five years, whichever comes first. LA/Epic will also be collecting on the front end on all of Future’s music ventures.

Since then, it’s only reignited an apparent beef between the former friends, beginning with Future’s response to a recent Q&A…

…to the exchanges that you’ll see below. Regardless, Future’s second album in two weeks — HNDRXX — is still dropping at midnight. You can get that and the self-titled release here.

Police Release Video of Shooting That Left Bankroll Fresh Dead

From WSB-TV Atlanta:

Police released video that showed the moments leading up to a shootout that killed a local rapper.

Trentavious White, aka Bankroll Fresh, died in a shooting at Street Execs recording studio in northwest Atlanta last year.

Investigators said there were a half-dozen guns involved, and it may have been a case of self-defense.

“Whether or not he was defending himself or the other person defending themselves, that is the question. That’s where we are trying to get to the truth,” Atlanta police Maj. Adam Lee said.

So…Did Migos Really Beat Up Sean Kingston (Over Soulja Boy)?

Sean Kingston is denying the whole thing (above), but you can see the TMZ report below:

Sean Kingston was beaten up badly Tuesday and people on scene say Migos was the culprit … but the story is bizarre and the group is not wanted by cops, at least not yet.

Law enforcement sources tell us it went down late afternoon at the Sands Expo and Convention Center in Vegas. We’re told Kingston and the guys from Migos got into it over an argument involving Soulja Boy and the 3 members of Migos beat Sean badly, allegedly kicking him and stomping on his head.

Law enforcement tells us someone from Sean’s camp pulled out a gun and fired once, but didn’t hit anyone. That person was detained by security and turned over to the Vegas PD.

By the time cops arrived both Sean and Migos had left. A short time later Sean was pulled over for a traffic stop and became “semi-cooperative,” though he did not name names.

We’re told police want to speak with Migos, but they are quick to add members of the group are not “wanted” by cops.

Wale Has Reportedly Invested In A Sneaker Stock Market Startup

A post shared by Wale (@wale) on

Wale continues to push D.C. Hip-Hop further up, while inspiring us to find new and innovative ways to build wealth. From Fortune, where you can read the full story:

Sneaker stock market startup StockX—an e-commerce site that targets the global sneaker resell market—has raised $6 million in a new fundraising round that includes actor Mark Wahlberg and AOL chief Tim Armstrong.

The company on Wednesday confirmed it closed on a round of funding that included some former investors, including rapper Eminem, and a handful of new investors including fashion designer Jon Buscemi, rapper Wale, Cleveland Browns cornerback Joe Haden, and TV host/radio personality DJ Skee. The money raised will be used to help StockX expand into other product categories, including watches and handbags, and also continue to grow the company’s sneaker business. It claims the resell market for sneakers is worth $6 billion globally.

Launched about a year ago, StockX was founded as a marketplace for so-called sneakerheads—consumers who are obsessed with collecting popular and limited-edition sneakers that are most often made by big manufacturers like Nike (NKE, +0.82%) and Adidas (ADDYY, -0.08%).
