Rutgers Course Inspired By Beyoncé

Rutgers University’s Department of Women Studies plans to offer a  course inspired by Beyonce, “Politicizing Beyoncé”. Doctoral student and lecturer Kevin Allred at the University says:

This isn’t a course about Beyoncé’s political engagement or how many times she performed during President Obama’s inauguration weekend. Rather, the performer’s music and career are used as lenses to explore American race, gender, and sexual politics. It’s important to shift students away from simply being consumers of media toward thinking more critically about what they’re engaging on a regular basis.

Whitney Houston Reportedly Broke

From RadarOnline:

Whitney Houston’s finances are hitting rock bottom, and RadarOnline.com has the exclusive details about her dire situation.

The Bodyguard star, 48, who sought help for her crack addiction last year, has lost her fortune, a source close to the singer exclusively revealed.

“Whitney’s fortune is gone,” the source said. “Music industry heavy hitters are supporting her and her label is fronting her cash against her next album, but no one knows when that will be released.”

The six-time Grammy winner has blown through an enormous fortune that she amassed over decades of stardom.

“She might be homeless if not for people saving her. She is broke as a joke.”

Bobby Brown’s ex-wife’s financial woes have her so cash strapped she’s been begging friends for help.

“She called someone to ask for $100,” the source said.

“It is so sad. She should have Mariah Carey money, and she’s flat broke.”

Lady Gaga & Father Gaga Open Italian Restaurant

No word yet if the meat dress is on the menu. From MTV:

After dropping several mentions in interviews over the past few months about a new restaurant she planned to launch with her father, Joseph Germanotta, Joanne Trattoria will finally open its doors on Wednesday.

The modest Italian neighborhood eatery on West 68th Street in New York was described by The New York Times as having a “well-stocked bar, a cozy back patio and seating for about 70 people.” The walls are covered with scenes of the Tuscan countryside and near a fireplace at the entrance diners will see some Germanotta family photos hanging by a front booth.

The restaurant will be run by Joseph and Gaga’s mother, Cynthia, and her proud pop admitted that his daughter “just generates a lot of sizzle,” helping to get the word out about the venture. The chef and partner in the business is Art Smith, who met Gaga at a taping for the “Oprah Winfrey Show.” Smith was Winfrey’s personal chef for several years.

DMX Rushed To Hospital……For Bad Shellfish

Slow news morning. From TMZ:

DMX had the plane ride from Hell last night — throwing up all the way from Miami to Charlotte, and then rushing straight to the hospital after landing.

According to DMX, he had some “bad shrimp” at his baby mama’s house in Miami before he got on a plane — commercial — and then spent most of the flight tossing his cookies in the lavatory.

X tells us … as soon as he touched down he went to Gastonia Memorial Hospital outside of Charlotte … by limousine. Puking, but still balling!!

X spent about four hours getting treatment in the emergency room, and then was sent home.

No limo ride home though. A friend picked him up.

Tyga On Nas & Nicki Minaj Collabos

Tyga hinted that Nas would appear on his YMCMB debut album, Careless World. In an interview with XXL, Tyga spoke on how he got Nas on a track on the record.

“Yeah man, I sent Nas a song like six months ago and I never heard back from him but out of the blue, he called me like, ‘Yo, you doing your thing. I want to be a part of what you doing, I like everything you doing. Keep working hard. I sent him the ‘Kings and Queens’ that night and he did it the next day. I was like, that shit is crazy. Nas always talks that shit. The song, man, [his bars] added the cherry on top. It’s a real classic song. People are gonna like it. I wanna think of a dope video. The storyline of the song, the whole King and Queens [theme], it’s motivational.”
He also discussed his Nicki Minaj featured track.
“The song for Nicki is called ‘Muthafucka Up”. I don’t know what they gonna call it on the radio. Maybe they might call it ‘Up.’ That one is one of them going in type songs. Like how Wayne had ‘A Milli.’ One of those Young Money records that people love. We got a crazy visual for that one, too. I don’t wanna give it away. I’ve been doing a lot of features for everyone.”
