Common & Drake Almost Cross Paths At Sundance

Last night, at night three of the T-Mobile Presents Google Music party at TAO at the Sundance Film Festival in Park City, Utah, Drake and Common missed each other by just minutes. The event was hosted by director Spike Lee. Just minutes after Common and crew made their exit, Drake and his XOVO entourage entered the building and was placed at a booth just 10 feet away from Common’s booth.

Dimples & Flava D – The Church Bells EP (Artwork & Tracklisting)

Spotted on Team Supreme:

Legendary Grime emcee, Dimples is back with a new joint release in 2012 after stamping his return last year with the Laugh Laugh Volume 3 which he first worked with Flava D. Studio time between Flava D and Dimples has been compared to the work of Tinchy and Maniac’s collaborative work with Flava D and Dimples bouncing off each other creating hit after hit. So it was only right that Dimples and female Grime producer Flava D to drop team up to drop their first joint project titled, The Church Bells EP on 22nd January 2012.

The first track on the EP is Church Bells featuring fellow G-Fam members Styler and Random Impulse. That’s right, Dimples bought back Random for a little Grime! The track has been heavily rotated in the UK with Charlie Sloth playing it 5 week in a row on his BBC 1xtra show. The next joint on the EP is the Bloodclart Remix featuring a huge line-up of talent including Trim, Footsie, D Power Diesle, Frisco, Flirta D and Nico Lindsay! The rest of EP consists of a solo Dimples track titled Nobody, the intrumental for Bloodclart, Church Bells acepella and instrumental for upcoming producers to drop their style over it! Hit the jump for the tracklist and visuals for Church Bells and the trio at the G-Shock sessions. I’ll update with the links to purchase the EP when they become available.

Jay-Z’s 40/40 Club Shut Down Over Health Code Violations

From The NY Post:

Jay-Z’s 40/40 Club was shut down for a slew of health-code violations just a day after its celebrity-drenched $10 million relaunch — and now it faces a dreaded “C” grade, The Post has learned.

An inspector found perishable food at dangerously warm temperatures inside the walk-in refrigerator and discovered “hot” food left out on the counter on Thursday, Health Department sources said.

A worker was also seen mixing salsa with his bare hands.

The refrigerator was at a rancid 60 degrees instead of 41 — jeopardizing the safety of 50 pounds of raw chicken wings, five pounds of raw shrimp and 100 turkey burgers, the sources said.

Five pounds of cooked mashed potatoes, meanwhile, were left out at a temperature of 89 degrees, while 10 pounds of cooked rice and 50 turkey burgers were kept at 67 degrees.

All the hot foods should be at least 140 degrees, the sources said.

The club’s restaurant was immediately closed, and new patrons were barred from entering. Those already inside were allowed to remain.

“If you have a walk-in place with food like this, you put a hell of a lot of people at risk,” said the source. “A night of dinner and dancing should not include the risk of contracting food-borne illness.”

The nightspot corrected the problem and was cleared for business last night.
A night earlier, the hip-hop mogul held an A-list party to reopen the hotspot, which was closed for 10 months for a $10 million makeover. Famous guests included Russell Simmons, Spike Lee, Lance Bass and Warren Buffett.

Ron Berkowitz, a spokesman for the club, insisted there “was no interruption in service or sales.”
However, problems could be looming for 40/40. The inspector gave the club 69 violation points, far in excess of the 28 needed for a worst-possible “C” grade, and they’ll be adjudicated at a hearing next month.

During its last inspection, in March, before the facelift, the club racked up 39 violation points for problems including improperly handled food and unsanitary conditions.

Megaupload.com, Shut Down (Updated)

One of World’s Largest File-Sharing Sites,
Megaupload.com, Shut Down; Company Workers Indicted.
 More info on the way.
They Coming

UPDATE #2 via TorrentFreak
A total of 18 Mega-related domains were also seized by authorities including Megastuff.co, Megaworld.com, Megaclicks.co, Megastuff.info, Megaclicks.org, Megaworld.mobi, Megastuff.org, Megaclick.us, Mageclick.com, HDmegaporn.com, Megavkdeo.com, Megaupload.com, Megaupload.org, Megarotic.com, Megaclick.com, Megavideo.com, Megavideoclips.com and Megaporn.com.

Federal prosecutors in Virginia have shut down one of the world’s largest file-sharing sites, Megaupload.com, and charged its founder and others with violating piracy laws — a day after a 24-hour blackout of popular websites such as Wikipedia drew national attention to the issue.

Today, the authorities executed in excess of 20 search warrants in the United States and eight other countries.

Data centers in the Netherlands, Canada and Washington housing MegaUpload’s equipment were raided. In an apparent reference to the latter location, a source has just informed TorrentFreak that the FBI are currently detaining everyone at the ISP Cogent Communications’ headquarters in Washington DC, in connection with a Mega-related search warrant.

In addition to MegaUpload founder Kim Dotcom who was arrested today in New Zealand, another six alleged members of the Mega “conspiracy” were charged in the indictment:

• Finn Batato, 38, a citizen and resident of Germany, who is the chief marketing officer;
• Julius Bencko, 35, a citizen and resident of Slovakia, who is the graphic designer;
• Sven Echternach, 39, a citizen and resident of Germany, who is the head of business development;
• Mathias Ortmann, 40, a citizen of Germany and resident of both Germany and Hong Kong, who is the chief technical officer, co-founder and director;
• Andrus Nomm, 32, a citizen of Estonia and resident of both Turkey and Estonia, who is a software programmer and head of the development software division;
• Bram van der Kolk, aka Bramos, 29, a Dutch citizen and resident of both the Netherlands and New Zealand, who oversees programming and the underlying network structure for the Mega websites.

Dotcom, Batato, Ortmann and van der Kolk were arrested today in Auckland, New Zealand, by authorities there. Bencko, Echternach and Nomm are still at large.

The indictment is among the largest criminal copyright cases ever brought by the United States, according to the FBI.

It accuses seven individuals and two corporations — Megaupload Limited and Vestor Limited — of costing copyright holders more than $500 million in lost revenue from pirated films and other content. The indictment, which was unsealed on Thursday, says that at one point Megaupload was the 13th most popular website in the world.

The individuals in the criminal enterprise — a worldwide ring led by Australians Kim Dotcom, aka Kim Schmitz, and Kim Tim Jim Vestor — each face a maximum penalty of 20 years in prison on racketeering charges, five years for conspiracy to commit copyright infringement, 20 years on money laundering charges and five years on related charges.

DMX Speaks On Ruff Ryders Tour

DMX tells TMZ that his label’s CEO Waah Dean has already started booking shows across the country. EVE and the Lox have not officially signed on yet, but Swizz Beatz and Drag-On are already down.

DMX says:

  “We are all family and we’re going to come back stronger than when we left … It’s going to take the nation by storm.”

Swizz Beatz is CEO of Megaupload?

The RIAA and other privacy-fighing groups are against Megaupload as a straight-up rouge site, a few artists and a-list celebrities have come together back in december to record a bizarre endorsement track defending the file-sharing site but was later taking down from YouTube by Universal Music Group under copyright law. The video featured Diddy, will.i.am, Alicia Keys, Kanye West, Snoop Dogg, Chris Brown, Game, Mary J. Blige, Kim Kardashian, Floyd Mayweather and Jamie Foxx. Below you can watch the video

 Today Page Six reports that Swizz Beatz is the CEO of the company, and he’s in a battle that has artists like Kanye West, will.i.am and Diddy are in trouble with their label. Reps for the artists have not commented, but the matter is ongoing and will be settled in court.

UPDATE: Jay-Z ‘Bitch’ Story False

From E! Online:

With the birth of Blue Ivy, is Beyoncé’s man Jay-Z suddenly turning over a new lyrical leaf?

U.K. music outlet NME reports that the rapper, inspired by his daughter’s arrival, has posted a poem online promising to refrain from using “bitch” in future rhymes.

“Before I got in the game, made a change, and got rich/I didn’t think hard about using the world bitch/I rapped, I flipped it, I sold it, I lived it/Now with my daughter in this world I curse those that give it,” the site quotes. “No man will degrade her, or call her names. I’m so focused on your future, the degradation has passed. I wish you wealth, health and insight. Forever young you may pass. Blue Ivy Carter, my angel.”

Lovely sentiment, but was that really on the MC’s mind last week? Well, E! News did some digging and the answer is…

So false!

A source close to the rapper’s camp told E! News that the poem in question is not by Jay-Z. No word how the lyrics made it online, but it wasn’t from the rap mogul, though the real Jay did have time to release the song “Glory” paying tribute to his little bundle of joy.

Meanwhile, the rapper has been busy enjoying being a new dad to Blue after he and his missus took her home from New York City’s Lenox Hill hospital last Tuesday.
