A$AP Rocky Discusses $3 Million Deal

A$AP Rocky’s got 3 million reasons to smile. In a recent interview with Pitchfork, he says that he signed with Polo Grounds after accepting a $3 million dollar deal.

Pitchfork: A lot of rappers are moving away from big record deals and, as recently as last month, it seemed like you didn’t want to sign with a major, either. What changed your mind?

A$AP Rocky: About three million dollars. [Other rappers who don’t sign] are smart, but I feel like Sony/RCA is a family and the people there actually care about me. When I came to meet [Polo Grounds Music founder] Bryan Leach, I got to know him on a personal level– he would set up car service for me to go to other labels. He wanted to see me make it. He’s from Harlem. I’m going to have creative control; there’s no bullshit. The situation is almost unrealistic. I mean, five months ago I had about $3,000 in my bank account. Now I’m worth $3 million. Nobody’s gotten a deal like that since 50 Cent.

Usher Attacked By Crazy Woman…..Over A Handicapped Parking Spot

video platformvideo managementvideo solutionsvideo player

I don’t care what you say…..that woman is nuts.

Usher was bull-rushed in the middle of a crowded parking lot in ATL last weekend — by an angry woman looking to fight the singer for parking in a handicap spot … and TMZ has the footage.

Eyewitnesses tell us … Usher had just arrived to a shopping center near the Little 5 Points Halloween Parade (hence the guy in the Elvis costume) when the woman saw U’s SUV parked in a handicap spot.

We’re told the woman demanded the singer move his car — but Usher refused and she went ballistic … screaming, flailing her arms, and grabbing Usher’s hoodie.

At one point, she screams, “You don’t belong here!”

Sources say the woman’s husband eventually dragged her away from the scene — and Usher drove away not long after.

Attempts to reach Usher’s people were not successful.

Update:

7:38 AM: A witness who was at the scene tells us … when the woman first approached Usher’s car, the singer was still in the driver’s seat with his window down … so she shook up a beer and sprayed it at him.

The witness says Usher grabbed a water bottle and splashed her back … so she kicked his driver’s side door until he exited the vehicle and confronted her.

BREAKING: Fight At Nicki Minaj’s Residence; Maid & Boyfriend Reportedly Involved

From TMZ:

There was a big confrontation at Nicki Minaj’s house in Hollywood moments ago … and it got so bad the cops came … TMZ has learned.

Here’s the backstory. Law enforcement tells us, a couple of weeks ago, Nicki’s maid took a photo of the singer out of the trash and then asked Nicki to sign it. Nicki got pissed and fired her.

Cops tell us, the maid did come back today, and Nicki became enraged and ordered her to leave. Now here’s where the stories are a bit conflicting. One source says — contrary to what the cops say — Nicki actually made a mistake, saw another maid and assumed she was the one Nicki had fired.

We have had multiple people involved in the incident tell us … the maid Nicki confronted was NOT the same maid she fired a few weeks ago. It was a case of mistaken identity.

Either way, Nicki’s boyfriend got in the act and began pushing the maid with his body. The maid’s boss called the cops and filed a battery report.

The cops came and the maid asked to make a citizen’s arrest, but eventually decided against it so no one was taken into custody.

Big Sean Cops A Plea Over Sexual Misconduct

Not sure if most of you remember this, but it looks as though Big Sean found a way out of the trouble he found himself in a little while ago…from his attorney:

I am pleased to announce that after further investigation the Niagra County District Attorney’s Office decided not to pursue any of the sexual misconduct allegations against Mr. Anderson. As a result in order to get this entire ordeal behind him Mr. Anderson agreed to plead guilty to a misdemeanor charge of unlawful imprisonment with a $750 fine. Mr. Anderson regrets any misunderstandings that occurred that day and reiterates he did not engage in any type of sexual misconduct.

“When I was a kid trying to figure out what I liked, it was [Kanye] who I related to the most. He was an artist, in every sense, from his cover art to his music. Now, I would say he was a really great competitor.”

Fat Trel Gets Love From NY Times

This weekend in NYC was CMJ Music Marathon while there I got a chance to see DC own Fat Trel at the Fader Fort and like always he put on for his city. Heres what NY Times had to say.

“7:10 PM: Fat Trel, from Washington DC, follows Mr. Lamar for his scheduled set, and even though he’s not quite the technician Mr. Lamar is, he has a better strategy for cutting through the din: rapping loudly, and bluntly, and in tandem with his hype man.”

Bone Thugs-N-Harmony Come Together To Defend Themselves Against Lawsuit

From TMZ:

The rap group Bone Thugs-n-Harmony is standing together to take on a lawsuit filed against the group stemming from an alleged altercation outside their tour bus earlier this year … this according to one of the group’s members.

As TMZ first reported, Bizzy Bone (far left) was investigated for alleged assault in Chicago back in June after two men claimed he flipped out and beat them up after they paid $80 to party with the group after a concert. According to a report, no arrests were ever made and earlier this week … the men decided to file a lawsuit against Bizzy and the rest of the band.

Flesh-n-Bone (second from the left) tells TMZ the group feels “the truth will come out” and they plan to “deal with this in court.”

He tells us, “We generally don’t let fans on the bus and we are never mean to any of our fans. We love all of them. We have the right representation and we will handle this matter accordingly.”

ASAP Rocky Reportedly Destroys Fader Fort Stage In NYC; Sends Stage Hand To ER

From Ozone:

The artist and his crew were upset that they were performing at a smaller stage which lead to them flipping over drums. When a stage hand for Fader Fort entered the stage to try and remove the drums he was jumped by members of ASAP Rocky’s crew. The entire stage was trashed and the stage hand had to leave in an ambulance. A statement hasn’t been made by ASAP Rocky.

You serious? From XXL:

Suge Knight will officially be extending a helping hand to Waka Flocka Flame’s career. Knight will be assisting Waka in overseeing his Brick Squad Monopoly West record company, as well as brokering movie deals for the animated rapper, Waka confirmed with XXL.

“It’s valid. It ain’t no rumors. It’s what it is,” Waka said about working with the Death Row Records co-founder. “You gotta really start pulling in people in the game who know the game. Suge is not the only one. I’ma start snatching in the real ones. Suge helped me get a good movie deal. Now I need to get on the TV screen. Ain’t nothing wrong with fuckin’ with some Gs. I fuck with Master P too. They’re just good for information, homie.

“He’s helping me oversee the company,” Waka added about Knight. “I’m not trying to be ‘Pac, I’m not trying to be Death Row. I’m Brick Squad Monopoly. My mother is still my manager. I ain’t changing shit. It is what it is. But it’s like having Jordan and Kobe. Why not play with both?”

Waka also shared that he’ll be releasing two mixtapes tomorrow. One called Lock Out with French Montana and the other is Waka Flocka James 3 which features Brick Squad Monopoly members Whooh Da Kid and Slim Dunkin. Waka’s next solo LP is due later this year as well. Still, the Atlanta transplant has higher aspirations than just rapping.

Jay-Z Paperback Decoded Excerpt

The paperback edition of Jay-Z’s Decoded hits shelves on November 1, but today, RR got an exclusive excerpt of Jay-z explaining which songs he chose to decipher.

Let me go back to the beginning: I sat in my studio one night at the start of the process of writing this book, trying to decide which songs to include. Throughout the night, different people came through the studio, including some of the people I’ve worked with closest throughout my career—my engineer, Young Guru; Memphis Bleek; Pharrell; Steve Stoute; dream hampton; and others. I was taking a break from finishing up the Blueprint 3 album, and hung out there for hours while people came and went, playing songs and telling stories, some of which made it into this book. Memphis Bleek told his side of the story of how we worked together on “Coming of Age,” Young Guru remembered that moving moment when Scarface rewrote his verses for “This Can’t Be Life,” Steve told us about how young corporate guys he knew were psyching themselves up for business meetings by listening to “Public Service Announcement” (and dream remembered the Dave Chappelle “When ‘Keeping It Real’ Goes Wrong” bit where a character did the same thing and got fired). I loved talking about the stories behind the songs, but as we were listening to the songs that night I found myself drawn over and over again to the words—the metaphors and rhythms and structural choices, not the gossip behind the songs. It was the little things that got me nodding my head, lost in the songs like I was hearing them for the first time. For instance, at one point Guru cued up “What We Do,” a song by Freeway with me and Beanie Sigel on it, and set it rumbling through the studio. In an instant, I was lost in Freeway’s remarkable flow. Do yourself a favor and listen to the first verse of that song, where Free ends every bar with some variation of the word “up” or “down.” It’s a simple thing, but the flow it creates is mesmerizing. I was still in the studio, but I was gone. That, I thought, is what an MC in the zone can do—turn language as simple as “up” and “down” into a magic spell.
