Odd Future Strikes Record Deal ?

Word on the streets is Odd Future inked a major deal that will keepp the group independent but with major backing. The group will sign with RED Distribution/Sony. All acts under one umbrella with the same creative freedom they have now. After the jump read a statement from their manager.

Statement from Chris Clancy
“It’s based on getting the distribution deal we’ve always envisioned that allows the group to “sign themselves” to their own company and keep their masters. They will have 100% creative control of all aspects of their music, art, and release schedule with no 3rd party participation in outside business. Freedom and ownership was the whole point. Red and Sony know that its in everyone’s best interest to maintain the group’s authenticity and control. They built it, they deserve it. There’s no cheesy hooks or fluorescent liquor product placements in the works.. It’s about to be fun.. and different.. “

Eminem & Royce Da 5’9″ To Do An EP

This is more than 10 years overdue. Straight up. Spotted on Rap Radar:
Welcome to the best of both worlds. Now that Eminem and Royce Da 5’9″ are back on the same page, the pair are set to release an EP inspired by their 1999 collaboration, Bad Meets Evil. The project is set to drop on June 14th through Interscope and will feature production from D-12′s Mr. Porter, Havoc, DJ Khalil, Bangladesh and others. Here’s what Em had to say:
“Royce and I started hanging out again and inevitably that led us back into the studio. At first we were just seeing where it went without any real goal in mind, but the songs started to come together crazy, so here we are.
As for Royce:
“I’m excited to see this project come to fruition considering the long lapse in time between when we worked before and now. We had a blast doing it and we just hope everyone enjoys it while we’re working on the ‘Monster’ that will be the Slaughterhouse album. #TeamShady”

NOW I CARE,Beyoncé And Jay-Z To Perform At The Royal Wedding?!

Beyoncé and Jay-Z have reportedly been asked to perform for Prince William and Kate Middleton at the couple’s upcoming royal wedding reception!

According to sources, the couple are huge fans of both performers, who are already in Europe at the moment, and want the pair to perform at the reception for their loved ones!

The insider explains:

“Both William and Kate are massive fans of Beyoncé and Jay-Z. They really wanted to make their big day even more special and what better way than by getting pop royalty to perform at the party? Will and Kate will have an official reception for hundreds of dignitaries before throwing a less formal bash for loved-ones. They both wanted to ditch traditions and make it more personal for them. Jay-Z and Beyoncé are both in Europe at the moment while she promotes her new single ‘Run The World (Girls)’. So it’s highly likely they have taken up the Royals’ offer. After all, who would turn down a once-in-a-lifetime gig like that?”

Sign The Based God ????? 10 Millie

The Based God was featured in today’s NY Magazine. In the feature, Brandon touches on the controversial title, GLAAD’s response, his book and shares what price the major labels need to come up with to sign him.

You’re an independent artist, but if you did go the major-label route, how much would the corporations need to pony up to sign you?
A $10 million deal. Really, though, that’s just for you right now. To put a price on my career and what I do — $10 million is not enough.
So $10 million is where negotiations start. Most likely, it will be higher than $10 million?
Yeah. Way over that. My life’s very important.

Hov’s Roll outlined with The New Jersey Nets According to GM

The New Jersey Nets general manager Billy King revealed that Jay-Z plays an active role in team decisions. As part owner of the franchise, Hov was noted for showing his passion in the boardroom.

“I think a lot of those so-called guys that have parts of teams, they vanish,” said King at his end-of-season press conference on Wednesday. “There was one in Cleveland, what was his name? Usher. They haven’t seen him. I think Nelly in (Charlotte) — haven’t seen him. But Jay-Z, I think players see that it’s more of a passion for him, not just something he’s involved in.”

King also says the rap mogul determined to bring the Nets to his hometown.

“To see [Jay-Z] give a pitch on Brooklyn, and the passion about going to Brooklyn – you see it on tape, you see it on TV. To see him in a room with Carmelo, and making it, you see the passion there,” King said. “And if he’s as passionate about Brooklyn, I just can’t imagine what the other people that live there are going to be like when we get there. And to see him as involved and as passionate about the Nets, to me, it’s a real positive. It’s not just something that he’s just using, or investing in. It’s something that he’s going to be involved in even more when we get – next season, I think, even further, we go to Brooklyn.”

Jay has been a Nets part owner since 2004.

Kanye West’s Mysterious Charity Foundation Is No More

The New York Times reports today that the Kanye West Foundation, a charity founded four years ago to battle high-school dropout rates, has shut down. The Times also makes the charity sound shady, pointing out that from 2007 to 2009, it took in an average of $492,000 and then handed out grants in total averaging only $18,080. [NYT]
