Maybach Music Group Bidding War?

Inside sources have told Elliot Wilson over at RapRadar the players include: Jay-Z’s Roc Nation/Sony; Birdman’s CMB; Lyor Cohen and the good folks at Warner; and Diddy and Iovine at Interscope. Whoever signs MMG will be picking up a dynasty. I think the best fit for MMG would be Rocnation or Interscope.

J Dilla: Behind the Beat (Poster)

Get your poster here. I did.
Back in 2005, photographer Raph Rashid was hoping to complete a book of hip-hop home studios by getting pics of J Dilla at work in Los Angeles. Unknown to all but a small circle of people at the time, J Dilla had been in and out of the hospital all year dealing with increasingly serious health problems. It was in summer, during a brief period when Dilla was home, working on his album The Shining, looking and feeling good, when Raph came to take this picture, published with others later that year in his book Behind the Beat: Hip-Hop Home Studios.

Kool Herc Wants Health Care Reform

DJ Kool Herc’s currently recovering from kidney stones and released a statement to MTV about America’s shitty health care policy.

“We live in one of the superpowers of the world!” Herc said in a statement to MTV News on Tuesday (February 1). ” ‘Give me your tired, your poor … ‘ and then you don’t take care of them? There should be no weak ants in the colony. There shouldn’t be anyone fighting for health care! This has been going on too damn long! We fought for 1520 Sedgwick to get landmark status, and in 2007, New York State officially recognized it as the ‘Birthplace of Hip Hop.’ Now we are fighting for health care not just for me, but for everyone. I see this situation as another quest for me to shine light on a sensitive issue for the community. I’m an instrument of God. I’m here for a purpose and I want to be here for the solution.”

Message From President Obama, Given To Russell Simmons To Share With Us

“I’ve always believed that here in America, every young person should be able to set goals and reach them; to discover their passions and follow them; and to earn their piece of the American Dream…
That’s why, during the last two years, my Administration has worked hard to give people like you the opportunities you need to reach your potential and win the future. We passed the Affordable Care Act that allows young people to stay on their parents health care plan until they’re 26 – allowing more time to find a job that carries insurance.

“We reformed the student loan system to put billions of dollars back into the pockets of students paying for college instead of watching it pad the profits of big banks. We’ve invested in clean energy and encouraged a generation of innovators working to start the companies and build the technologies of the future. We’ve ended combat operations in Iraq and brought more than 90,000 troops home from the battlefield, and also made sure they get the care they have earned when they got back. And, even though there’s still a tremendous amount of work to be done, I promise that every decision I make in the years ahead will be made with you in mind. Each of you represents our hope for this country. Your generation will be the one leading America into the future. And if we do our part, I know you’ll make us proud. ” – Barack Obama

Fabolous & Ne-Yo Working On Collabo LP

So I see Loso isnt playing this year, he is giving us a mixtape and he recently revealed to XXL that he and Ne-Yo are working on a joint album. The project is rumored to be produced in it’s entirety by Ryan Leslie.

“I think this year too I might be doing this project with Ne-Yo finally,” he told XXL. “We’ve been in talks for a minute. It’s really sounding like it’s gonna get done. Ne-Yo is really hyped about it. I just fell back on it, but now I see the wheels are turning a little bit. I think we need that for the game. Some of the allure from the game is gone. You see people doing less numbers, so now let’s do some vanity projects where people are collaborating together.”

Money Making Jam Boys – The Prestige: Jam Boy Magic (Artwork & News)

Such a boost:
After nearly a year and a half, we’re happy to announce the newest edition to our mixtape series. This go around, we’ve linked up with The Money Making Jam Boys’ for their first mixtape release, The Prestige: Jam Boy Magic. The Money Making Jam Boys (consisting of Black Thought from the Grammy-winning Roots crew, Dice Raw, Truck North, P.O.R.N. and STS) join Kid Cudi, Wale and Donnis as artists that we have supported and championed as a brand.
Seamlessly mixed by The Press Play Show’s own Mick Boogie and Terry Urban, The Prestige – sixteen tracks of hot lava – draws equally upon original production by the likes of Frank Knuckles & ?uestlove, and a revisitation of several golden era hip-hop tracks. Mix that with cuts by the legendary Jazzy Jeff and you get what many who’ve been privy to preview listens state is the best mixtape release we’ve had to-date. We’ll reserve our judgment and let you decide…
It’s party time in NYC, once again, on February 2nd, when we celebrate the release event at Hiro Ballroom with a live performance from MMJB (and whoever else they bring to the show). For those of you not in NYC, we’ll be hosting a listening preview event at Cmonwealth in DC on January 31rst. Event details will follow shortly.
The Prestige will be available for download at our website at 12pm, Brooklyn time, on Thursday, February 3rd. Follow us on Twitter over the next couple of days to catch a peek at preview tracks and videos leading up to the release.

DJ Premier – JJ (Jermaine Jackson) (Instrumental)

Live Premo beat on the loose? Well, sort of….this is the beat that he submitted to Kanye for My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy. While I don’t see how it would’ve made sense cohesively, well….. it’s a live instrumental he liberated. How y’all rappers gonna act?
Update (spotted here): The beat was rejected because Kanye West changed the direction of his album…this was created when everybody thought he was going to make that “Boom Bap” album.
