Reps For The NYPD Respond To Ice-T

Yes, I put up the picture of cop Ice-T on purpose.

We posted on his arrest earlier…seems like it’s becoming uglier (than it probably needs to be). From MTV News (after the jump):

Just because Ice-T plays a man with a badge on TV, don’t forget that the onetime gangsta rap icon recorded a controversial tune called “Cop Killer” back in the day. Just two days after he lashed out at a police officer who pulled him over in New York on Tuesday and arrested him for allegedly driving with a suspended license and not wearing a seat belt, the beef between T and the NYPD continues to escalate.

On Thursday, the president of the Patrolmen’s Benevolent Association rapped T (born Tracy Marrow) for posting the arresting officer’s name and badge number after the collar. “[Ice-T] may play a police officer on TV, but his disdain for law enforcement is well-documented,” said PBA president Patrick Lynch about T, who plays perpetually irritated detective Fin Tutuola on “Law & Order: SVU.”

Speaking to the New York Post, Lynch added, “Real police officers enforce real laws that exist to keep everyone safe, even a disrespectful, former rap performer-turned-actor, whether he likes it or not.” Following the arrest, the rapper referred to the officer who pulled him over as “some punk bitch,” who he said “made the arrest of his bullsh– career today. Arresting the Notorious Ice T for no seatbelt,” while providing the officer’s last name and badge number in retaliation.

T isn’t done talking, though. On Thursday, he tweeted, “I’ve got absolutely NO problems with cops in general … Just some people are a–holes. They don’t have to be cops. A suska [sic] is a sucka.” He seems like he’s trying to move on from the situation, adding a short time later, “The whole sh– was a joke. But it showed me how eager some people are to see me in handcuffs … Good wake up call 4 me.”

Following the arrest, T clarified on his Twitter account that his license was not suspended because he never had a New York license, but instead carries a New Jersey license, which he said is valid.

Lloyd Banks’ Charges In Canada Dismissed

That’s Chris Hines. Look at that picture, read the article, and look at the picture again. From All Hip Hop:

G-Unit member Lloyd Banks won a major victory in court last week (July 15th), when an Ontario judge dismissed criminal charges against the Queens, New York rapper.

The charges stemmed from an incident in January of 2010, when Lloyd Banks, born Christopher Lloyd and a group of men allegedly assaulted Chris Hines, a well known booking agent in Ontario, Canada.

Banks and several other men were accused of assaulting Hines after a show at Club NV, just outside of Ontario.

Hines claimed that Banks and several other men held him hostage in a hotel room and assaulted him for over 20 minutes.

Last week, Justice Michael Epstein dismissed all charges relating to the January incident, which sparked headlines around the world.

“Banks would like to thank his Canadian counsel, Patrick Ducharme, and the authorities in Ontario for doing ‘the right thing,” Banks’ United States lawyer, Scott Leemon ESQ., told AllHipHop.com.

“After a careful and neutral evaluation of the facts, it is good to see that the system actually worked,” Leemon stated. “With this finally behind him, Banks looks forward to coming back to Canada soon.”

Charges were also withdrawn against two other men in the assault case, while a third, Nicklas Sloane, pled guilty to assault and received a $2,500 fine.

Fans Create Petition For Lupe Fiasco’s ‘Lasers’

Looks like the fans are tired of waiting for Lasers to drop (or at least set a damn release date). I really do hope that this will actually make a difference. You can sign up here (I know I will).

Dear Atlantic Records,

The fans have been waiting for the release for Lupe Fiasco’s album “Lasers” for over a good year now. Since when it was originally announced finished last summer, there has still yet to be a release date announced. It has even been stated by Lupe Fiasco the artist himself, that the album is in fact completed. Enough is enough, we demand that you stop playing around and give us the album that we have been highly anticipating since the release of The Cool.

Sincerely,

The Undersigned

Foxy Brown Arrested

This woman is a firecracker… ::shrug::

From TMZ:

Bernadette Brennan tells TMZ it all started when Foxy was rehearsing outside for her upcoming show at the B.B. King Blues Club in NY — which ticked off the neighbor.

Brennan claims the neighbor then came outside and started screaming at Foxy — but the rapper just ignored her.

We’re told Foxy went inside to avoid further confrontation — and that’s when the cops showed up.

As we first reported, the neighbor told cops a different story — that Foxy verbally engaged her, a violation of the protective order the neighbor has against the rapper.

I guess we’ll see when everything comes to light…

Talib Kweli Responds To Gucci Mane Collab Criticism

Remember this song? Well, Mychal Smith is not feeling the Talib’s decision to work with the likes of Gucci. You can read the full entry here, but here’s a portion of the article:

No artist wants to be boxed in. They don’t want to feel the pressure from their fans to constantly produce the same type of material. They desire the freedom to experiment, step outside of their comfort zone and challenge themselves and their audience to look at the art and themselves differently. I respect this outlook. I do.

But then Talib Kweli does a song with Gucci Mane and I’m forced to reevaluate everything I believe.

The rest after the jump.

Granted, I should’ve seen this coming. After Kweli essentially co-signed Slim Thug’s idiotic comments regarding black women and his assertion that people don’t like Drake simply because he’s successful, there seems to be no one in hip-hop that Kweli won’t defend/make excuses for. When he hops on a remix to Rick Ross’ B.M.F. and proudly shouts the name of Larry Hoover, don’t act surprised.

And he has every right to do so. The issue, as I see it, is that he is trying to do everything he can distant himself from the base that built him. Everyone’s favorite conscious rapper doesn’t want to be conscious anymore.

Wow. Quite an arrogant statement. Naturally enough Talib responded to said article, which you can also read of the entirety of here:

Now I don’t know Mychal Smith, but what I do know is he is a blogger that follows me on Twitter, and I guess my decision to record with Gucci Mane bothered him enough to blog about it, declaring my move a part of the demise of the conscious rapper.

I offer a different take. I say people like Mychal Smith are every bit as caught up in the flashing lights as the “ignorant” masses they like to judge. Instead of celebrating it, they get joy from speaking against it. They truly believe not liking Gucci Mane makes them intellectually superior to say, some chic down south. They pay so much attention to what they perceive to be negative, based on a limited world view, that they miss the positive, even when it’s right in their face.

I really don’t get Mr. Smith’s point of view…who in hip-hop decided that certain artists can’t work with other artists? Make sure to read both of those entries.

Rick Ross Sales Forecast: 170-180K

From Hits Daily Double:

Eminem’s four-play may well be about to end.

The hip-hop superstar’s four straight weeks at #1 with his Shady/Aftermath/ Interscope album Recovery is being threatened this week by Def Jam/IDJ Miami rapper Rick Ross, whose Teflon Don is on target to do between 170-180k in sales.

With placement in Target and Best Buy circulars, Eminem’s Recovery, off just 15% this week, is in the early lead, but the outcome is still very much in doubt.

I reeeeeeeeeeeeeally thought he would sell more than that.

Dr. Dre and….Justin Beiber?

This warrants no picture. I just want you to read this…apparently (according to Illseed of AllHipHop.com), Dr. Dre has been in the studio with Justin Beiber. Yes, the girl from Canada. Here’s what he said:

IF Justin Beiber says he is one Detox, the world is going to end the next day. Here is what BeBe had to say about it:

“Got to be in the studio with the legend himself Dr. Dre. Made a couple beats and he gave me some advice…i was hyped. can u blame me?”

And Dre had the following to say:

“He’s another artist that breaks the color lines. Everybody loves this kid and he seems like a good kid. More power to him.”

Seriously, just what the hell is going on? Is this the que to stop holding my breath for Detox? Is he really just fuckin’ with our heads, now? And even if he puts it out, does anyone honestly understand the magnitude of the situation if, after a decade (basically), it isn’t the best album that anyone has ever created? I’m just waiting for a picture that would confirm this (because you know that little snot is gonna take one for his Facebook page or something), but I really do think that his perfectionism (if that ain’t a word, I’m making it one) is doing him in (his music, anyway, not him personally)…we’ll see what happens for the rest of the year…

Lil’ Wayne Speaks On The Miami Heat

Yes, it’s titled “Tune’s Sports Corner”. Why not. From the Weezy Thanx You blog:

Oh Lebron! The recent move by the Miami Heat confirms that we will someday soon have that good ole basketball back with all due respect to the Lakers-Celtics 7 game series. This move reminds me of the days when it was Johnson, Worthy, and Jabbar vs. Bird, Parrish, and McHale, or Thomas, Dumars, and Lambeer. Well now we have Bryant, Gasol, Bynum, and Pierce, Allen, Garnett, and ultimately, Wade, bosh, and James! Do expect this to become “protocol” to win an NBA title. As for many more teams have and will be stacking their rosters with stars.

I believe that this Miami team will be explosive as intended. Anything less than an NBA championship title will be uncivilized. 72-10 anybody?. Well with Wade at the 1 and Lebron at the 2 or vice versa even, or Mario Chalmers at the 1, Wade at the 2, and Bron at the 3… Wow! Not to mention that I didn’t mention Bosh, who can live at the 4 or 5. Zone defense will be a must against this team. That’s 3 players on the court that commands a double team. Just imagine those guys on a fast break, the defender back peadaling… Wade can take it to the hole or throw it up and you know Bron. Bron is going to get it… or dish it back to a trailing Chris Bosh who will definitely finish at the rim… again, wow! Or how about Wade at the 3-point line, Bosh setting the pick, and Lebron in the passing lane. And if you collapse on them, don’t forget that Chalmers can knock down the shot. I bet that they lead the league in alley-oops. And they’re all young! Scary! Hey, what if Pat Riley returns to the sidelines and it ends up being the Lakers vs. Heat in the finals? Riley vs. Jackson! Epic! Gasol on Bosh, Ron-Ron on Bron-Bron, and Kobe on Wade… wow!

More after the jump.

Also, beware of the Bulls. Boozer will fit in well because they’re similar to Utah in many ways. A nice guard surrounded by the shooters. With the addiction of Korrer and Rose should be able to shine brighter. The Bulls led the league in the rebounds last season and I’m sure they will again with Boozer and Noah.

Boston is the team of bad knees! With J. O’neal joining the squad, it adds another big man but his knees are always questionable. So is Garnett’s and now Perkins. But still expect them to do well in the east.

The Knicks are injury prone as well. Not only are their spirits injured from not getting The King, but Amare’s an injury threat as well as Turiaf and Randolph. If they can stay healthy, then expect Amare and Randolph to be beasts in the paint. Raymond Felton is no Steve Nash but he’s a solid point guard. He should do well with Stoudemire. I’m not sure about Orlando in the east this upcoming season. I mean Duhon isn’t exactly a good move but it has potential.

As for the West, Minnesota is stacked now with Beasley, Jefferson, Love, and Milicic. Golden State looks good with Curry and Lee. Though I’m not sure if we can expect Lee to brab all these boards in the west. Too many big men. As for the east is full of guards.

I can’t wait to see how teams stack up next season when those other big name players hit the market. Maybe Melo and Tony Parker to the Knicks? Or Chris Paul and Derrin Williams to the Lakers? They’re gonna have to do something! Good ole basketball.

The Tricks of the Trade.
