Khujo Goodie Released From Jail Today

Great, great news. We reported on his unfortunate circumstance before, but it appears he’s beaten the justice system this go round. From Creative Loafing:

After originally being sentenced to serve two years of a five year sentence, Willie Knighton Jr., aka Khujo Goodie, was freed today after a Henry County judge determined that one of his indictments was legally void. Big Boi and Goodie Mob members Cee-Lo and Big Gipp were all in attendance at today’s hearing, and Big Boi testified on Khujo’s behalf.

Turns out that Twitter has been the leading source of breaking news on this case, which had most Goodie Mob fans wondering what Khujo had done to provoke the long arm of the law in the first place.

In an effort to fill in the blanks, Creative Loafing called Knighton’s lawyer Daniel Kane shortly after the news hit Twitter today.

According to Kane, Knighton had been serving time in a Henry County jail (located in the southeastern suburbs of metro Atlanta) since June 9, after being convicted of three counts of felony possession of a firearm and one count of violation of the Ga. Controlled Substance Act for having marijuana in his possession — charges he’d received in 2009 and 2010.

Khujo was originally sentenced to two years because Henry County had determined that he was already a convicted felon, due to a firearms violation dating back to 1990. But today in court, Kane proved that Khujo’s previous charge was legally void.

“He had a case in 1990 when he was a teenager that was disposed of under the First Offender Act,” Kane explained. “If you enter a plea under the First Offender Act you are not formally adjudicated guilty.

“The mistake was that they thought he was a convicted felon because they thought he was convicted in 1990,” he continued. “So I went back into the archives and got the 1990 case, researched it, pulled the records and presented them to the district attorney and the judge in Henry County and said he could never be a felon in possession of a firearm — there were three counts — because he was never a convicted felon. It was a first offender case, and the court agreed.”

Of course, a two-year sentence would have put a serious dent in the reunited Goodie Mob’s plans for a new album. But the case isn’t totally behind him — a new sentencing hearing is scheduled for August 3. When asked to speculate on the final outcome, Khujo’s lawyer preferred not to comment on the ongoing case.

He did, however, comment on Khujo’s disposition after being freed today: “Well, there’s great joy, great joy and happiness. And also his friends from the music industry, they were very, very happy. Big Boi and Cee-Lo, Big Gipp, they were very happy, as well as [Khujo]’s wife, and his cousin.

In the meantime, it’s back to business for Khujo, who is featured on the hook he penned for the song “Tangerine,” (featuring T.I.), which, according to Kane, will be the next single from Big Boi’s new album Sir Lucious Leftfoot: The Return of Chico Dusty.

“It’ll be a smash; I know the song well,” said Kane, who says Khujo will be touring with Big Boi in support of the album. “It’ll get released somewhere down the road as a single after [the current single] “Shutterbugg” runs its course. So we’re looking for great success. [Khujo]’s going to go out and tour with Big.”

Khujo’s lawyer expressed equal excitement for the return of Goodie Mob.

“We’re all very happy for Khujo and we wish him tremendous success, because the Goodie Mob is reunited and they’re touring” said Kane, who, besides serving as long-time legal counsel for Khujo and other Dungeon Family members, also considers himself a fan. “We love Khujo. My son Trevor and Quinn just said, ‘Dad, do anything you can to get him out.”

Maybe we’ll get that official Goodie Mob reunion, after all.

Too $hort Explains Arrest

Too $hort checked in with XXL to explain his arrest, as previously reported:

“The accusations against me regarding my arrest in Idaho on July 15th, were untrue and exaggerated,” he said. “Normally I would ignore rumors, but because of the nature of the story that’s being spread I had to say something. I don’t blame these outlets for running with the story because it’s about Too $hort the ‘dirty rapper’ who has never had a scandal and it involved the words ‘underage girls.’ However, due to my work with young people in Oakland I am extremely outraged at the way I am being portrayed. The incident that night was completely taken out of context and I have not and never will take advantage of any woman that is underage. Never that!

“These days people believe everything that they see on TV and these blogs,” he continued. “I have been dedicated to youth organizations and wish to continue to support them and I do not want my community and especially young people that look up to me to think that this is the type of thing that I would do.”

Lil’ Wayne Owes The IRS

From the Detroit News:

Cough syrup-chugging, law-skirting rapper Lil Wayne owes some serious cash money to the IRS, which filed a $1.13 million tax lien against the star last month, according to Florida court records.

It’s the second monster tax problem for Lil Wayne, real name Dwayne Carter. The IRS filed a $977,840 lien against him two years ago, but the platinum-selling artist paid it off in August 2008.

And there’s more good news. Late last month, he satisfied a $146,000 civil judgment won by a jeweler who never got paid in full for selling the rapper an 18-carat necklace and a $138,000 platinum ring, according to this Dade County court record.

What’s owed:

• The IRS filed a $1,138,760 lien against Carter on June 3 in Dade County (Fla.) Circuit Court. According to the lien, which you can see here, he owes income taxes from 2004, 2005 and 2007. The address on the lien is the same office occupied by his One Family Foundation charity.

Call me crazy, but I’d bet whoever wrote this isn’t the biggest Lil’ Wayne fan…

Alicia Keys And Jeff Robinson Part Ways…Sort Of

K-Ci & JoJo Trying To Make A Comeback

From HipHopBlog.com:

After fading into obscurity and becoming beset with drug and health problems, former Jodeci frontmen K-Ci and JoJo Hailey appear to be poised to make a return to the industry.

K-Ci said via statement:

“We made a lot of mistakes and we just putting it all on the table so you won’t have to read the Internet and magazines about us. We letting it be known and K-Ci & Jo Jo “Come Clean” comes out in October.”

The brothers are allegedly clean and sober and are working hard on a new album and tv show called “Come Clean.” No word on whether or not this helps kick-start that long-awaited Jodeci reunion.

Now, the first thing I did was look at that picture. And I laughed. HARD. That, plus the previous videos and pictures of them passing out on stage and using a bodyguard as the preferred mode of transportation among other things, got me thinking, “this shit just ain’t gonna work”. Maybe they could do like every other washed up entertainer (or non-telented person) and do some sort of reality show…but them, I forget that not only were these dudes talented as 1/2 of Jodeci, they also has a great career as just K-Ci & JoJo. With that said, I can’t help but think that if they can stay chill from the spotlight ‘a-la Kanye’ and let their music regain the spotlight, well, maybe we can look past that hairdo you see at the top of this entry and trully enjoy their their musical talents again. Assuming the drugs and alcohol haven’t taken it away. Toss it up.

Bushwick Bill May Be Facing Deportation

From Creative Loafing:

Over a month has passed since rumor sprouted surrounding legendary Geto Boys’ MC Bushwick Bill’s no-show at the June taping of VH1’s 2010 Hip Hop Honors. At the time, there was some speculation that he’d been arrested on unknown charges before he was scheduled to perform during the Rap-A-Lot Records dedication to honor the label’s founder, J. Prince.

While those charges or the arrest have yet to be confirmed, Bill is definitely in some hot water. Today, the Jamaican-born MC faced deportation proceedings in Atlanta Immigration Court. The cause for the ongoing case is also unknown.

The former member of the pioneering, Houston-based gangsta rap group, Geto Boys, was born Richard Shaw in Jamaica in 1966, but raised in the Bushwick section of Brooklyn, New York (hence his stage name), before relocating to Houston in the ’80s.

The-Dream’s Open Letter To Christina Milian

So, after the fallout due to this, The-Dream’s PR Team The-Dream decided to write a letter for damage control to his now estranged wife Christina Milian. Read below:

In My Own Words:

First I want to thank God for the trials of life, without them we can’t know purpose!

I would love to tell the truth as to why my relationship wasn’t successful, but today that is between me and Christina. Its easy to say that it’s because of another woman or a new relationship but truthfully, IT’S NOT.

I take FULL RESPONSIBILITY for misleading everyone into thinking everything was fine and okay when we knew problems existed for awhile! I wanted to speak up but we decided it wasn’t for anyone to know. I would NEVER intentionally hurt a soul and everyone around me knows that! There was so much going on in me and Christina’s personal world that I tried to deal with it as delicately as I could and tried to regain my footing. Instead of being direct in order not to cause even more hurt or hurt someone’s feelings, I carried the weight in secret!

I am Human and people fall in and out of Love all the time… This is Life. Nothing’s promised or perfect, neither am I. I am not proud that I lost something we once had…LOVE! I’ve always been a Loving Father, Hard Worker, Generous, Stern and Eager to prove myself. My faults are I can be irresponsible and an ass sometimes, but I HAVE NEVER and WILL NEVER be a malicious person or wish harm to anyone, especially those I love or the mother of my child. I’m sorry for the embarrassment to everyone involved! If there’s anyone to blame and you can’t fathom this happening, please blame me and me alone for not being upfront! Even though we were trying to overcome personal things between us, I was just simply scared and embarrassed to let everyone know we WERE FAILING and HAVE NOW FAILED!

This is not to justify anything, it’s true emotion! It’s a real thing that involves real people! I’ve cried about this for months, after interviews, after prayer and I’ve tried to take my own life at a point because of the failure that was looming.

But I was reminded by my MOTHER that I am not “Superman” and its okay to lose sometimes…

This too shall pass! And everything will be fine!

~ Terius Nash ~

Publicity stunt or genuine? I wonder how Christina Milian will respond…

Rock (Of Heltah Skeltah) Is Not Guilty

From Suge White:

Rock from the acclaimed group Heltah Skeltah has been found not guilty in an attempted murder case stemming from a shooting incident that left a pimp paralyzed. Dru Ha, the CEO of Duck Down Records, made the announcement.

“Exhale for Rock & congratulations to his attorney Kenneth Montgomery for the NOT GUILTY VERDICT! Incredible job,” Dru Ha said via Twitter. Rock was accused of being a moonlighting as a pimp at night and shooting a rival in January of 2008. He was eventually released on $125,000 bail and proclaimed his innocent in the alleged shooting, assault and the assertion that he is a pimp.

Despite the legal matters, Rock refused to sensationalize the case and released D.I.R.T. (Da Incredible Rap Team) with Heltah Skeltah rap partner Sean “Ruck” Price. Rock was party to a recent celebration of Duck Down’s 15th Anniversary on Tuesday at BB King’s Club in New York. Look out for the new mixtape Rock has coming out with Suge White, “Rockin Out West.”

For those who don’t know what the hell he’s talking about…congrats, can’t wait to hear some more music.

Too $hort Arrested

From the Idaho Statesman:

Atlanta-based rapper Too Short and one of his associates were briefly jailed early Thursday after Boise police say they got into a fight with security workers at the Knitting Factory concert club following a concert.

The 44-year-old Todd Shaw (Too Short) is charged with three counts of misdemeanor battery and associate Michael T. Walton, 38, of Modesto, Calif., is charged with two counts of misdemeanor battery. Both were taken to the Ada County Jail early Thursday, where they were released after posting bond.

Boise police were called to the Knitting Factory just after 11 p.m. Wednesday to investigate a report of a fight. Three employees of the club who work security told police they had been punched, kicked and pushed by Shaw and Walton.

Witnesses told police the fight began after those security employees told Shaw club policy forbid him from taking females under age 21 backstage and into his dressing room, according to police reports.

None of the three security employees were seriously injured, police officials said.

Shaw and Walton have court dates scheduled for Aug. 4.

The charge of misdemeanor battery is punishable by up to six months in jail and a $1,000 fine.

Drake – Miss Me (Behind The Scenes)

So, it appears that pressed-ass Kore Magazine managed to snag a couple of pics on the set of Drake putting the finishing touches on ‘Miss Me’ off the his almost-platinum debut Thank Me Later. Rap Radar also got a quick camera pic (at least it looks that way) showing some action on the scene (which you can check out at the end). In other news still concerning Drake, he is also about to shoot a video for ‘Fancy’ with the The-Dream, featuring Paris Morton (who I didn’t realize was a real women until I saw the news on this).

‘Buns, Beer & Backpacks – A (2)Dope BBQ’

Someone just dropped a seed on an event coming up next month. From 2dopeboyz:
Over the past year or so the site has grown exponentially beyond levels the two of us never envisioned and, whether you realize/like it or not, you, the visitor/lurker/shit-talker, are partially responsible for said growth. So we figure we’d give back to the many fans and supporters (and yes, even the detractors. If you’re reading this right now and feeling a certain way about it, then you’re likely one of them) of the site by throwing the first-ever (2)Dope BBQ, all in the name of a worthy cause.
Well that’s nice of them. I’ll be with the rest of y’all on checking back with 2dopeboyz for new updates.
