Maryland Court Rules That D.C. Sniper Lee Boyd Malvo Must Be Resentenced

From CNN, where you can read the full story:

Nearly two decades after a serial sniper spree that terrorized the Washington, DC, area and left 10 people dead, a Maryland appeals court ruled that Lee Boyd Malvo, who was convicted for his role in the shootings, must be resentenced.

Malvo was 17 years old when the crimes were committed in October 2002. He was sentenced to life without parole in both Maryland and Virginia. The Maryland Court of Appeals based its Friday ruling on the US Supreme Court’s guidance on juvenile offenders.

The Supreme Court in decisions that occurred after Malvo’s sentencing held that life without parole for youthful offenders is not permitted under the Eighth Amendment “if a sentencing court determines that the offender’s crime was the result of transient immaturity, as opposed to permanent incorrigibility,” Judge Robert McDonald wrote. It isn’t clear that the sentencing judge reached the latter conclusion in Malvo’s case, the judge said.

Malvo is currently in the Red Onion State Prison in Virginia, where he is serving life sentences, and the judge noted that it “may be an academic question in Mr. Malvo’s case.”

Tyler, 51, of Prairieville, was arrested and booked Sunday afternoon on first-degree rape, simple robbery, felony domestic abuse battery by strangulation and other counts in the suburban Baton Rouge parish, sheriff’s deputies said.

Tyler has faced sexual assault charges in the past and is a registered sex offender after a 2003 conviction, but recently said he was trying to turn his life around and put his more volatile past behind him.

Eric Holder Jr. Found Guilty Of Nipsey Hussle’s Murder

From the L.A. Times, where you can read the entire story:

Eric Holder Jr., the gang member who killed rapper Nipsey Hussle, was convicted of first-degree murder Wednesday and will likely spend the rest of his life in prison for gunning down the beloved Crenshaw musician and community figure.

Hussle, an ascendant rap artist and himself an avowed Crips gang member, was signing autographs for fans on March 31, 2019, outside a clothing store he owned in the Crenshaw neighborhood where he grew up when Holder approached. Holder departed after a brief conversation but returned several minutes later and shot Hussle 11 times. Two other men were also shot but survived.

Police arrested Holder in nearby Bellflower two days later, after the woman who served as his unwitting getaway driver turned herself in and identified him as the gunman.

Holder’s guilt was not in question throughout his two-week trial, with multiple witnesses confirming his identity and the shooting captured on security cameras. Rather than arguing for an acquittal, Holder’s attorney, Aaron Jansen, tried to persuade jurors they should convict his client of a lesser manslaughter charge instead of murder.

Judge Ann Donnelly told Kelly he mercilessly ruined the lives of the countless victims he serially raped, abused, and isolated “with regularity for almost 25 years.”

“This case is not about sex. It’s about violence and cruelty and control,” Donnelly told Kelly.

“These victims were disposable to you. You taught them that love is enslavement and violence and humiliation.”

From WSBTV in Atlanta, where you can read a much, much deeper story about how all of this went down:

Rapper Young Thug and some alleged members of his Young Slime (YSL) Life syndicate were arrested early Monday afternoon on a sweeping gang indictment that named at least 28 people.

Thug, whose real name is Jeffery Williams, is accused of conspiring to associate together and with others for the common purposes of illegally obtaining money and property through a pattern of racketeering activity and conducting and participating in the enterprise through a pattern of racketeering activity.

Gunna turned himself in to Fulton County on Wednesday morning, according to jail records.

Atlanta Police Chief Rodney Bryant called Young Thug one of Atlanta’s “top offenders” who needed to be taken off the streets.

“They are committing conservatively 75% to 80% of all the violent crime in our community,” Willis said. “It doesn’t matter your notoriety or fame, if you come to Fulton County, Georgia, and you commit crimes, you are going to be a target and a focus of this District Attorney’s office.”

Willis said some of the people being indicted could face life in prison.

Willis said social media and music played a crucial role in the investigation into Young Thug and his associates.

“Social media is a wonderful tool for prosecutors in every indictment we bring these days,” Willis said.

The judge gave Williams credit for the year he has already spent in custody, the magazine reported. With credit for good behavior, Williams could be released from prison in about 3 1/2 years, according to Rolling Stone.

Yaya Mayweather Pleads Guilty To Stabbing Mother Of NBA YoungBoy’s Child

From Yahoo! News, where you can read the full story:

Floyd Mayweather’s 21-year-old daughter, Iyanna “Yaya” Mayweather, has accepted a plea deal and taken responsibility for the 2020 stabbing of Lapattra Jacobs. Notably, Mayweather and Jacobs share a child with rapper NBA YoungBoy—aka YoungBoy Never Broke Again.

Mayweather appeared in court in Houston on Wednesday, where she pleaded guilty to aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.

While Mayweather was originally facing a minimum of two years, with the max being 20 years behind bars, The Shade Room reports that prosecutors recommend six years of probation instead.

Mayweather’s attorney, Kent Schaffer, spoke to XXL about her plea.

“We resolved the case between Iyanna and the State,” Schaffer said. “The agreement calls for Iyanna to be on deferred adjudication for a period of six years, after which she will have no felony conviction and the case will be dismissed. She is eligible to have the deferred adjudication end after two years pending her good behavior.”

“Although we believe that Iyanna was defending herself after being attacked, we thought this was the safest resolution for her. This is especially true since her boyfriend and his bodyguards refused to testify, probably due to their own legal problems,” he added.
