Beyoncé Writes Essay On Gender Equality

Beyonce-2014

Beyonce gives her views on what needs to be done to make women and man truly equal in a new write-up on The Shriver Report. You can check out an excerpt below; the essay can be seen in full here.

We need to stop buying into the myth about gender equality. It isn’t a reality yet. Today, women make up half of the U.S. workforce, but the average working woman earns only 77 percent of what the average working man makes. But unless women and men both say this is unacceptable, things will not change. Men have to demand that their wives, daughters, mothers, and sisters earn more—commensurate with their qualifications and not their gender. Equality will be achieved when men and women are granted equal pay and equal respect.

Humanity requires both men and women, and we are equally important and need one another. So why are we viewed as less than equal? These old attitudes are drilled into us from the very beginning. We have to teach our boys the rules of equality and respect, so that as they grow up, gender equality becomes a natural way of life. And we have to teach our girls that they can reach as high as humanly possible.

We have a lot of work to do, but we can get there if we work together. Women are more than 50 percent of the population and more than 50 percent of voters. We must demand that we all receive 100 percent of the opportunities.

More Photos From Blue Ivy’s 2nd Birthday (Courtesy of Beyoncé)

We previously posted a bunch of paparazzi-style photos of the happy family in celebration….now we have some more personal “candids” courtesy of Beyoncé herself. Spotted on NY Daily News:

The fun-filled party took place at Miami’s Jungle Island wildlife park and botanical garden, according to Us Weekly, which Mr. and Mrs. Carter reportedly rented out for the day.

Several close family members and friends attended the party, including Beyoncé’s Destiny’s Child bandmates Kelly Rowland and Michelle Williams, and photos from the party later appeared on the “Flawless” singer’s Tumblr page.

Blue Ivy rocks an adorable little “birthday girl” tiara and face paint in the photos — and so does her mom. In another snapshot she appears to be riding around on a little pink toddler tricycle, escorted by her rapper dad.

After working up an appetite at the play place, the family reportedly enjoyed a pizza lunch at local eatery Joey’s Italian Café, according to Us Weekly.

“It was really cute,” an eyewitness told the magazine. “They’re such fun and attentive parents and pretty normal people considering how famous they are.”

Robin Thicke’s Label Settles With Marvin Gaye’s Family In ‘Blurred Lines’ Lawsuit

Sunnymarvin-gaye

From NY Daily News:

Marvin Gaye’s children have settled claims against a music company owned by Sony over Robin Thicke’s Grammy-nominated hit song “Blurred Lines.”

The Gayes had accused EMI of not pursuing a copyright infringement case against Thicke because “Blurred Lines” has similarities to Gaye’s “Got to Give It Up.”

A Los Angeles judge on Tuesday granted Nona Marvisa Gaye and Frankie Christian Gaye’s dismissal of their lawsuit against EMI, which is owned by Sony/ATV Music Publishing. Documents say the Gayes and Sony have an agreement and claims against Sony can’t be brought again. A representative for the Gaye family said the terms of the settlement were confidential.

Dueling lawsuits between the Gaye family and Thicke remain active.

Thicke and his collaborators T.I. and Pharrell Williams asked a federal judge in August to rule they didn’t copy “Got to Give It Up” for “Blurred Lines,” which is nominated for record of the year and other awards at the Jan. 26 Grammy Awards. Their song has sold 6.6 million tracks and was last year’s biggest hit. It spent 12 weeks on top of the Billboard Hot 100 chart.

Gaye’s children accused the performers in October of copying elements of his music for “Blurred Lines.” Their lawsuit sought to block Thicke from using elements of their father’s music in other songs and claimed Thicke improperly used Gaye’s “After the Dance” for his No. 1 R&B hit “Love After War.”

Representatives for Sony and Thicke didn’t immediately reply to emails seeking comment on Tuesday. A representative for Gaye’s children said in a statement they hope “the infringement claims will be resolved swiftly and in an appropriate manner.”

Marvin Gaye, whose other hit songs include “Sexual Healing” and “Let’s Get It On,” was shot dead by his father in 1984. The family’s statement said they plan on celebrating the late singer’s 75th birthday this year.

Eyewitness: Kanye West Hit Man 30 Times Who Insulted Kim

0114-kanye-west-kim-kardashian-3

TMZ reports:

Kanye West was like a boxer going in for the kill … pummeling an 18-year old guy with more than 30 blows … this according to an eyewitness.

We broke the story … an 18-year-old allegedly called Kim a “n****r lover” on his way into the office of a Beverly Hills chiropractor. Minutes later, Kim and Kanye stormed in — Kim ID the kid — and her baby daddy went nuts.

The eyewitness tells TMZ … the 18-year-old was sitting in a chair as Kanye made a beeline for him and, without saying a word, started slugging him in the face. The kid was covering his face but Kanye was unrelenting. Kim just stood there and silently watched the beating.

The receptionist was screaming, “Stop, stop,” but Kanye ignored her. The kid quickly curled up into a ball to block the blows.

The massage therapist rushed into the waiting room and pushed Kanye off the kid and ordered him out of the office. Kanye got out of the building and Kim went to another office for a meeting.

TMZ Reveals Old Pictures Of Marines Burning Bodies In Iraq (GRAPHIC)

From TMZ:

The United States military is conducting a formal investigation into American soldiers burning the dead bodies of what appear to be Iraqi insurgents.

TMZ obtained 41 pictures that we’re told were shot in Fallujah in 2004. Two pictures show a Marine appearing to pour gasoline or some other flammable on the remains of what officials believe are 2 insurgents. Two other photos show the bodies on fire. You then see charred remains.

Another photo shows a Marine crouched down next to a dead body and mugging for the camera.

Still another pic shows a Marine rifling through the pocket of the pants on a corpse.

We have not included all of the photos. Many are just too gruesome. There are well over a dozen bodies in the pics and some are covered with flies and one is being eaten by a dog.

We turned them all over to the Pentagon last week, and a Pentagon official tells us the pics have triggered a Marine Corps investigation.

We’re told U.S. Central Command — the organization in charge of military operations in the Middle East — also reviewed the photos to determine if they had been previously brought to their attention and determined they had not.

Col. Steve Warren, Director of Press Operations for the Dept. of Defense, tells TMZ … the pictures appear to show U.S. soldiers in violation of the Uniform Code of Military Justice … which makes it a crime to mishandle remains.

There is no statute of limitations on the crime — even if the soldiers are now private citizens … they can still be prosecuted, which could land them behind bars.

Col. Warren tells TMZ, “The actions that are depicted in these photos are not in any way representative of the honorable, professional service of the 2 1/2 million service members who went to war in Iraq and Afghanistan in the last decade.”

Justin Bieber’s Associate Lil’ Za Arrested (Again) For Smashing Phone In Jail

From TMZ:

Justin Bieber’s pal Lil Za pulled a double — getting arrested for a SECOND TIME Tuesday … while STILL under arrest, and it’s all over a shattered phone … TMZ has learned.

Sources tell us Za was minutes from posting bail and getting released from custody after getting busted for drug possession at Bieber’s house this morning — and then for some reason he flipped out and smashed a phone in the jailhouse.

We’re told Za was almost immediately re-booked for vandalism.

Best of all, depending on the value of the phone … this could also be a felony — to go along with his felony drug bust.

Joe Budden Announces Upcoming Slaughterhouse Album Title

I gotta be honest, never would’ve expected to see Slaughterhouse working on their third album, and yet here we are. Joe Budden took to Twitter to take a bit of credit for his group’s new album title (and he’s right, it does kind of sound like a Budden project).

VIDEO/PICS: Drake & A$AP Rocky Film ‘Wu-Tang Forever (Remix)’

While I’m sure there will be more to this video than Drake & Rocky, the two were spotted in A$AP Land (Harlem) filming the remix to Drizzy’s ‘Wu-Tang Forever’. The clip is said to be shot of A$AP Rocky and Jesse Terrero and should feature cameos (and verses?) from members of the Wu-Tang Clan. Check out a few snapshots above, as well as a quick Instagram recording below.

JoJo Signs With Atlantic Records

jojo

From Pop & Hiss (L.A. Times):

JoJo has signed a deal with Atlantic Records, ending an exhaustive multi-year battle with her former label, a representative for the singer has confirmed to Pop & Hiss.

In 2004, the Massachusetts-bred singer, born Joanna Levesque, arrived as a big-lunged 13-year-old poised for teen-pop stardom.

Her sassy, R&B-kissed self-titled debut yielded singles such as “Baby It’s You,” “Not That Kinda Girl” and “Leave (Get Out),” which hit the top of the pop songs chart, making her the youngest solo act to land a No. 1 in the U.S.

But more than seven years after a stellar sophomore effort, 2006’s “The High Road” — it featured the massive smash “Too Little Too Late” — a third album from the singer had yet to see release.

Most of the delay was the result of ongoing legal troubles with her longtime label, Blackground Music, that left her unable to issue new music commercially. A few official singles surfaced, including the lush, alt-R&B stunner “Demonstrate” from Drake’s producer Noah “40” Shebib.

JoJo did sate fans by offering a set of mixtapes, collaborations and covers that helped her transition from the tween demographic and earn her a ton of hipster cred. There are also dozens upon dozens of leaked tracks floating around on the Web.

Her fans strongly lobbied for her release, even launching a #FreeJoJo campaign on Twitter; last summer, the battle with Blackground (once home to the late Aaliyah) went public after the singer filed a suit to be released from the label and its imprint Da Family Records.

In the suit, filed in New York State Supreme Court in July and obtained by The Times, the singer claimed that the labels had essentially been holding her hostage for the better part of seven years.

Among her complaints in the suit was that Blackground and Da Family failed to release her third album despite delivery and acceptance of recordings and that the labels neglected to pay producers and “other vendors” she collaborated with.

More important, she argued that because her deal with the labels was signed when she was a minor, laws in both New York and California stipulated that she could not be bound to the contract after a period of seven years.

Finally free of label strife, the 23-year-old is on track to issue her long-gestating third album. She signed the new deal with Atlantic in December.

JoJo is set to make her film return in “G.B.F.,” which arrives in theaters on Friday.

Woman Claims Texans RB Arian Foster Is Pressuring Her To Get An Abortion

KHOU reports:

A Houston woman who says she is pregnant with Arian Foster’s baby is taking the Texans running back to court.

Brittany Norwood, a 20-year-old University of Houston senior, says Foster has been pressuring her to get an abortion.

Norwood claims she didn’t know Foster was married with children when she had sex with him last summer. She said they were first intimate at Hotel ZaZa where Foster was staying during training camp.

Norwood said they also spent a week together in California in November while Foster was recovering from back surgery. Norwood sold photos of them together in California to TMZ.

“I truly fell in love with this person,” Norwood said.

Foster has not commented about Norwood’s claims, but he has spoken publicly about his marriage and posted photos of his daughter on social media.

Norwood said everything changed when she told Foster she was pregnant and wanted to keep the baby.

“He’s like, ‘You can’t have this, you can’t have this kid, like, we cannot bring a child into this, like, think about my kids,’” Norwood said.

She said Foster began sending text messages urging her to end the pregnancy.

“You just can’t bring a life into this world under these circumstances. It’s not fair to anyone. It’s not just about you,” read one message, according to Norwood.

She said Foster’s brother, Abdul, also sent messages.

“He’s like, ‘You know, if you loved Arian at all you would have an abortion because this child is going to ruin everything,’” Norwood said. “’Like, our whole family will never accept this child.”

Norwood said the baby is a boy and he’s due in June. She said Foster hasn’t helped with her medical bills.

“I’m 20, I’m scared, I’m another single mom,” she said through tears.

Norwood’s attorney has filed a temporary restraining order against Foster, saying he recklessly engaged in a pattern of outrageous conduct that caused Norwood to “suffer severe emotional distress.”

“We want his conduct to stop,” said attorney Douglas York. “We want him to communicate effectively and we want the harassment to end.”

They are also asking the court to force Foster to submit to DNA tests to prove he is the father.

Norwood had this message for Foster: “I just want you to love and want the exact same life for my son that I do.”

Meanwhile, Foster’s attorney, Alvin Zimmerman, said this is a matter pending in court and he’s not ready to comment.

A hearing on the restraining order is set for Wednesday morning.

Cops Raid Justin Bieber’s House Following Egg Incident (Video)

From TMZ:

Eleven L.A. County Sheriff’s patrol cars descended on Justin Bieber’s house this morning and they are executing a search warrant in connection with the egg-throwing incident … law enforcement sources tell TMZ.

Sources tell us … deputies are looking for any evidence that links Bieber to the egg assault on his next door neighbor.

We’re told this is a FELONY search warrant — meaning Justin is under a microscope for a crime that could land him in prison.

Sources say cops will look for anything that is relevant to the egg incident, including other eggs in the house and possible video. Sheriff’s deputies have looked at TMZ’s video of the incident and believe Justin has surveillance video that might have captured the egging.

By the way … looking for other eggs may sound silly, but it isn’t. There could be some sort of identifier that links what’s in Justin’s fridge to the broken eggs outside.

Here’s the thing … If in the course of the search cops find something illegal — like drugs — it’s fair game.

Retired Cop Shoots, Kills Man Over Texting In Movie Theater

(CNN) — It started with a father sending text messages to his daughter during the previews of a movie.

It ended with the 43-year-old man shot dead amid the theater seats, and a 71-year-old retired police officer in custody.

The shooting Monday during a 1:20 p.m. showing of “Lone Survivor” at a Wesley Chapel, Florida, movie theater escalated from an objection to cell phone use, to a series of arguments, to the sudden and deadly shooting, according to police and witnesses.
As a male moviegoer texted, the man seated behind him objected, and asked the texter to put his phone away.

They argued several times, according to police and witnesses, and the man who was texting watched as the other man walked out of the theater. Curtis Reeves, a retired police officer, apparently went seeking a theater employee to complain about the texting, police said.

When Reeves returned, he was without a manager.

The man who had been texting, Chad Oulson, got up and turned to Reeves to ask him if he had gone to tell on him for his texting. Oulson reportedly said, in effect: I was just sending a message to my young daughter.

Voices were raised. Popcorn was thrown. And then came something unimaginable — except maybe in a movie. A gun shot.

Oulson was fatally wounded. His wife was hit, too, through the hand as she raised her hand in front of her husband as the shooter drew a handgun.

The shooter sat down and put the gun in his lap.

It happened that an off-duty deputy sheriff from Sumter County was among the 25 people theater at the Grove 16 complex. He rushed to the scene to make sure no more shots were fired and the shooter would stay put.

It also happened that there were two nurses there and one came to Oulson’s side and performed CPR until paramedics arrived.

Oulson later died. His wife, Nicole, suffered a non-life threatening wound to her hand.

CNN affiliate Bay News 9 reported that Reeves was arrested on a charge of second-degree homicide. It could not be determined Monday night whether he had retained an attorney.
