Uptown DC’s Ras Nebyu dropped this video last week (shot by @RadioMars)over an old Pete Rock beat (please don’t sue him Pete.) The kid sounds like he came straight out of the 90’s-but in a good way. For example; “As I create a fist for my black hands/The return of the futuristic Black man…Just another cool-ass day up on Kennedy Street by the 70 where Georgia and Kennedy meet/Them Babylon boys they watchin’ us malevolently/The precinct on Peabody where my enemies be/In them Rittenhouse parks/Where we used to spark…” and more great quotes like comparing gentrification to genocide. This Cypher League write-up said it best: “Travel with Ras Nebyu as he takes you from Takoma Metro to Howard University in “Washington Slizzards”, all by way of the 70 bus.
