Big congrats to Domo! Inspiring! As shared via the team’s official press release:
The Washington Spirit proudly announce Domo Wells as the team’s first Creative Director & Designer. The DMV native will usher in a new era of culture + creativity for the National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) franchise.
“We are excited to welcome Domo to the Spirit family. Her creativity, passion, and roots in the DMV will lift our brand,” said Theresa McDonnell Spirit COO. “Her original designs will give our fans exciting new ways to show their team pride.”
In this role, Wells will spearhead the design direction for the team’s merchandise, starting with exciting updates to the Spirit’s core collection and a limited edition Cherry Blossom capsule releasing March 23rd in stadium and following later online.
Wells expressed her excitement about joining the Washington Spirit, stating, “I’m honored to support such a dynamic organization led by such powerful women on and off the field. I’m looking forward to sharing my love for design with this team and my hometown.”
Formerly the Editorial Lead of Black Music and Culture at Spotify, Domo helped build the Frequency franchise and conceived the company’s first fashion show. In her work with the club, she promises to infuse the team’s identity with the same boldness and originality as she’s done with Dead Dirt.
With Wells at the helm, the Spirit is poised to make a bold statement in the NWSL. Stay tuned for a captivating season filled with creativity, excitement, and unforgettable moments! The Spirit is gearing up to kick off its 2024 season home schedule on Saturday, March 23 at 7:30 p.m. against one of the NWSL’s newest clubs Bay FC.
