My Name is My Name might seem like a rather obvious statement and dubious title for a record, but after checking out the first in a series of video “testimonials” (this one is called “A Name I Call Myself”), the origin becomes infinitely clearer. Check out the new Orson Whales & Kris Ex directed clip on that Pusha T LP and look for the record, which features Kanye West, Pharrell, Swizz Beatz and more, on October 8th. Pusha T dropped another track off his solo album, My Name Is My Name….above, he tells Rob Markman that the record had been in the works for years before Kendrick Lamar’s ‘Control’ verse.
“I never heard [Kendrick] talk like that,. When I listen to it, I felt [Kendrick’s] last bars where [he’s] saying, ‘I’m myself. I can dibble-dabble over here, but I can still show you this is myself, this is me, who I am. He really showed out.”
