Shakira lets go of a new track from her forthcoming self-titled effort, due March 25th (preorder here).
From the Latin Times, where you can also find a petition created to shut down the video (which you can see in its entirety here):
Shakira and Rihanna premiered their steamy and racy video for “Can’t Remember To Forget You” last week and shocked viewers. The 37-year-old Colombian singer and 25-year-old singer from Barbados are seen in grinding and bumping up against a wall and get touchy with each other in provocative positions that turn up the heat. Fans of both stars have applauded their musical effort but outsiders have been less receptive with an activist in Colombia by the name of Marco Fidel Ramirez, starting a petition to have the clip banned.
The “Family Councilor” (“Concejal De La Familia”), as Ramirez is known, has started a campaign on Twitter to prohibit “Can’t Remember To Forget You.” “The family councilor rejects categorically the contents of Shakira’s latest video, as it is considered to damage the moral character of the youth of Bogotá, Colombia and Latin America,” he wrote on the social network using the hashtag #PeligroVideoShakira. Ramirez mentioned Shakira in the tweet and has made it his missioned to get noticed by the singer as he feels she is promoting and motivates tobacco use, homosexuality, stealing and killing.
“Our Shakira with her erotic video is promoting tobacco usage and has become the worst example for our youth,” he later added. “Shakira’s new video is a shameless case for lesbianism and immorality. It is a danger to children.”
Shakira releases her visual for her new single with my future baby mama Rihanna off her upcoming self-titled album, set to hit stores on March 25th. Directed by Joseph Kahn.
This is one video that looks to push boundaries as far as raciness. The Joseph Khan-directed clip premieres tonight at 8:35pm (EST)….you can check out the song here.
Shakira’s self-titled album drops March 25th (preorder here)…no official tracklisting yet, but expect three extra songs on a special edition that will be sold only at Target.
Shakira basically wrote a considerable amount on her Facebook just to let fans know that the title of her forthcoming album will be the un-creative Shakira. You can read it in full below.
“When the time came to put a name to this album…” / “Cuando llegó la hora de buscarle un título a este disco…”
I’m so happy that I will soon be sharing my latest album with you all, something I’ve been working on for over two years now. The work on this album has spanned a very eventful time, with many ups and downs but ultimately, the happiest period in my life thus far, including the birth of my son. I’ve explored many different directions, worked with many different people, and written many, many demos before arriving at the finished product I will soon be presenting to you.
When the time came to put a name to this album, I realized that it’s not exactly a thematic album, though love is and always has been one of my main subjects and sources for inspiration. It’s also not necessarily conceptual, as some of my albums have been in the past.
In the end, what I realized is that throughout the course of creating this body of work, I learned a lot about myself. Though I didn’t realize it at the time, all the directions I began exploring in the initial phases of recording were helping to pave a path for me of rediscovery. In the end I realized that I will always be a little bit of everything and I don’t have to choose. I am sometimes extremely sensitive, sometimes upbeat, others dreamy and romantic, and even at times a little melodramatic. (Call it the Caribbean blood.) But always authentic and always sincere.
Most importantly, I am enough. Imperfections and all. So what I am offering you now is just that.
Shakira.
Nothing more. A little bit of rock, a little bit of folk, a little reggae and naturally some dance–but as always, and above all, a lot of heart.I hope you enjoy.
Shakira
(The new album, Shakira, is out March 25th)

Newbies Usher & Shakira joined Adam Levine and Blake Shelton for a rousing performance of ‘Come Together’ on The Voice.
This is admittedly funny…the new season premieres this Spring:
On the way to begin a new season of The Voice, Blake, Adam, Shakira and Usher find some common musical ground.
Spotted on Grape Juice:
They are three of the world’s most celebrated performers, and now, in what is set to become one of the year’s most anticipated, Rihanna, Jennifer Lopez and Shakira will journey to Azebaijan to perform at the ’2012 Fifa U17 Women’s World Cup’.
On September 22nd, Lopez will perform at the event’s opening ceremony in Baku, followed by Rihanna on October 5th at the Tofig Brahamov.
Then, on October 13th, Shakira will deliver a set during the final match of the tournament, to be held at the same venue.
This will mark the first time any of the women have performed in the country which is also hosted the 2012 Eurovision Song Contest last month.
