From Page Six:
Perri “Pebbles” Reid — former manager of the girl group TLC — is suing Viacom for $40 million over the movie “CrazySexyCool: The TLC Story.”
Reid claims in Atlanta federal court that the 2013 VH1 movie portrays her “as a conniving and dishonest business woman who hoodwinked three innocent girls and exploited their talent for her own personal gain.”
An R&B singer who has herself sold over 4 million records, Reid says in the suit that Viacom “ignored fundamental canons of journalistic and literary conduct by publishing false and defamatory accusations with actual malice.”
The suit filed late Friday states that, contrary to what VH1 viewers saw, Reid never controlled TLC’s lawyers or accountants, never withheld contract terms from TLC and always paid the group what they were owed.
After selling 11 million copies of their 1994 album “CrazySexyCool,” TLC filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection.
Record execs said TLC only filed in order to void their contracts, but the girls, who sued LaFace Records and Pebbitone, Reid’s management compancy, claimed they were paid only $50,000 a year each in 1993 and 1994.
A spokesperson for Viacom said, “It’s our policy not to comment on matters in litigation.”
In addition to J. Cole, TLC also had a huge show on VH1 in lieu of the upcoming Super Bowl. You can check out plenty of clips above and below of the lip sync-heavy performance, which went down in New York’s Beacon Theatre.
P.S. TLC definitely has some classics in their catalog.
Spotted on Global Grind:
While two lucky teams will be gearing up to play the game of a lifetime, artists like Drake, J. Cole, TLC, and Diddy will be gearing up to perform the concert of a lifetime.
For this year’s Super Bowl festivities, VH1 presents Super Bowl Blitz: Six Nights + Six Concerts, which will be hosted by Nick Cannon and Stacy Keibler. All the action will go down in the greater area of New York City, including the five boroughs and New Jersey.
The concert series will run from January 27 to February 1, and will air live at 11 p.m. EST. J. Cole will kick off VH1′s concert series on Monday, January 27 at the Kupferberg Center of the Arts at Queens College, followed by Janelle Monae at Bronx’s Lehman College on Tuesday, and TLC at Manhattan’s Beacon Theatre on Thursday.
On the other hand, Drake will headline a private concert for Time Warner Cable’s REVOLT network on the eve of the Super Bowl. The Super Bowl pre-game party will be hosted by Diddy.
The biggest show of them all, the Super Bowl Halftime show, will be led by Bruno Mars on Sunday, February 2.
The above gallery shows Tweets from some TLC fan page (who claims they’ve been dropped) and a Tweet from Chilli (who downplayed the issue without actually denying it 100%). Not much else is know, so…..time will tell.
From Hip Hollywood:
While chatting with Kandi Burruss she revealed that Xscape, along with several other 90s singing groups, got the same crappy record deal as TLC. She also said it’s up to the artist to negotiate better terms.
Perri “Pebbles” Reid sets the record straight about the accusations made against her by TLC and addresses the way she was portrayed in the TLC movie in an exclusive interview on The Wendy Williams Show.
UPDATE: According to The Jasmine Brand, Chilli has responded to Ashley Reid’s post-TLC documentary claims.
****************************************
“When I said on Twitter, Chilli I can’t wait to see you what I meant by that was I can’t wait to see you to beat your f-cking face into the concrete.”
The above noteworthy quote (and many others, as you will hear) are from a recent interview (also above) that Pebbles’ daughter Ashley Reid conducted on Reid All About It Radio (which may or may not be her own show, I don’t really know). Check it out above: hell, enjoy another quote below!
I’m not gonna talk about Chilli sucking my father’s d-ck or most of the d-cks in the industry in the 90′s…That has nothing to do with the fact that she is a lying person, I won’t even call her a whore anymore. She’s claimed that we got it.
You really don’t need me to tell you what Pebbles is feeling following the premiere of TLC’s CrazySexyCool biopic, which showcased Pebbles in a not-so-positive-light to the point where it shows her as the one responsible for TLC’s backruptcy. Long story short, the woman to found said R&B group has officially responded.
“First I want to thank all of you for the well wishes and prayers. I apologise for the delay in responding to the movie, but I wanted to gather my thoughts. I have always been a private person and this unprovoked attack has been extremely upsetting to me and my family. I have needed time to spend with my family and for personal reflection.
The movie contains many false and defamatory statements and scenes about me. Please know that I have never cheated or mislead anyone. I will defend my reputation, accomplishments, and character. My attorney is in the process of demanding a retraction of the false and defamatory statements and scenes about me from VH1.
My silence has empowered individuals looking for a payday at my expense. I have held my peace for 20 years and it’s time the truth comes out. I will be sharing my story in the appropriate venue at the appropriate time. With all my heart I thank you for your faithful support.
I am extremely proud of the success and massive accomplishments of TLC—the group I discovered, managed, and mentored. I helped push open doors for TLC and other women in this male dominated industry. My sacrifices ultimately opened the door for not only a new wave of female performers in this industry but also a new generation of female executives. That backdrop makes the movie extremely personally upsetting to me.”
TLC sat down with Rap-Up for a sit down interview and talked about their upcoming collaboration on a new song — entitled ‘Posh Life’ — with Lady Gaga off their 2014 release. The song was co-written by Dallas Austin & Lady Gaga. Lady Gaga was going to use the song for her ARTPOP album but she said “it was too TLC. She didn’t want to offend TLC ’cause she was such a fan.”
TLC drops off something new with recent footage in the studio and vintage clips, created for a record off their compilation, 20, which is in stores now.

J. Cole dedicates his short film for ‘Crooked Smile’ with TLC to the memory of Aiyana Stanley-Jones; in the visual, J. Cole finds himself on the wrong path with drugs and the DEA. Born Sinner is in stores now.
Drake held his 4th annual OVO Fest last night in his hometown in Toronto and he brought out a lot of big names, which included Kanye West, Lil’ Wayne, Diddy, Mase, ASAP Rocky, J. Cole, Miguel, TLC, Wale, Big Sean, French Montana and The Weeknd. Check out the performances above and below from OVO Feat.
We previously reported on their announcement that Lil’ Mama would be handling Left Eye’s parts for the upcoming show (as she will be playing that very same role in TLC’s upcoming biopic). We now have some footage of that performance, with additional clips below.
These two legends are really reviving this woman’s career!
Being that Lil’ Mama will be playing the role of Left Eye in the upcoming TLC biopic on VH1, the real Chilli and T-Boz held a recent press conference announce that Mama will also be performing as their fallen group member as well, during the Mixtape Festival in Hershey Park, PA. You can check out a couple of pictures from the conference below.
Chilli & T-Boz appeared on the Japanese MTV’s VMAs, not only to grab some kind of legend award, but also to perform their greatest hits for the crowd.
We previously posted a new version of the classic ‘Waterfalls’ that featured Chilla & T-Boz sangin’ with Japanese star Namie Amuro…..and apparently, the family of Left Eye was thinking the same thing we were. From TMZ:
The family of Lisa “Left Eye” Lopes’ feels betrayed by TLC’s decision to re-record “Waterfalls” with a Japanese pop star … because no one even bothered to tell them.
T-Boz and Chili recently released a new version of the group’s 90’s hit — in honor of their 20th anniversary . Instead of keeping Left Eye (who died in 2002) on the recording, they replaced her with Namie Amuro (think Britney Spears of Japan).
Left Eye’s sister, Reigndrop Lopes, is pissed, telling TMZ, “I did not know about it until a fan posted it online. I mean it would have been nice if they would have given us a head up before being surprised.”
Reigndrop says her mom was shocked and hurt as well … because she felt keeping Lisa on the song would have honored her daughter’s memory.
For whatever reason, T-Boz & Chilli decided to remake their hit song ‘Waterfalls’. No problem there. For the remake, they then decided to remove Left Eye off of the song in place of Japanese Pop star Namie Amuro. Big problem.
I don’t know who thought this shit up, but I’m going to enjoy the original while you folks leave your thoughts in the comments section.
Jermain Cole grabs Chilli and T-Boz for the 2nd single from his upcoming album. Born Sinner comes out June 18th.
Dallas Austin speaks about the upcoming TLC biopic and 20th anniversary album, which may include appearances from J. Cole and Drake.
Reportedly, there are already 5 major cities locked in for the reunion tour. From Hollywood Reporter:
In honor of the 20th anniversary of TLC, surviving members Tionne “T-Boz” Watkins and Rozonda “Chilli” Thomas have a new album, a VH1 made-for-TV movie series and a reunion tour in the works. A reunion tour may seem unfathomable without the group’s late third member, Lisa “Left-Eye” Lopes, which is why the duo has decided to follow in the footsteps of Dr. Dre and his revolutionary Coachella performance with Tupac Shakur’s visual resurrections.
Today marks the 10th anniversary of Left-Eye’s tragic and untimely death. T-Boz and Chilli have announced that in celebration of their anniversary, Left-Eye will be gracing the reunion tour stage through image projections on a big screen — however, the duo intends to use archival footage, not a newly generated digital performance.
“The word anniversary means a celebration. For us, her death will never be a celebration, it’s still something that hurts,” Watkins said in a statement, with Thomas adding, “Lisa is our sister. You never get over losing a family member. We love her and we miss her and that isn’t ever going to change.”
