DC-area artist (and seasoned actor, best known from the Baltimore-based series The Wire) Tray Chaney is here to help the youth progress forward, as can be seen in his new visual for ‘Attendance’. The track and visual is exactly what you think it is, a strong message to the kids to stay in school and be serious about their education.

Speaking to The Root, he explains his basis for the tune:

I wanted to focus on getting young people—all ages, all grade levels—excited about going to school. Reports of the dropout rates really hurt my heart, and I felt I needed to step up in hip-hop and represent by not only giving our youth a song but a video as well. It’s so much negative vibes out here that our youth can get trapped in, I wanted to be a leader and show them they can be a leader.

Tray Chaney may or may not be best known to folks as an actor (specifically, Poot from the legendary Baltimore-based series The Wire), but lately, he’s been making a not of noise in music, specifically with his most recent Mike Bully campaign (which is based off of his single of the same name). We would like to take a moment and catch up with Tray Chaney the artist ourselves, and so have presented some of his latest music visuals to date. We’re definitely keeping an eye out for his future releases as well.
