From DCist:

Sir Richard Branson kicked off the inaugural broadcast of his company’s brand new Internet music stream this morning with the much-anticipated reveal of the lineup for this year’s Virgin Mobile Festival, slated to be held at Merriweather Post Pavilion on Saturday, September 25.

The free festival, co-produced by Virgin and D.C.’s own IMP Productions — who operate the 9:30 Club as well as Merriweather — enters its second year at the Merriweather grounds after operating at Pimlico as a paid event from 2006 to 2008.

The lineup — so far — is as follows:

•Chromeo
•Die Antwoord
•Edward Sharpe & The Magnetic Zeroes
•Jimmy Eat World
•Joan Jett
•LCD Soundsystem
•Ludacris
•M.I.A.
•Matt & Kim
•Modeselektor
•Neon Indian
•Pavement
•Sleigh Bells
•T.I.
•The Temper Trap
•Thievery Corporation
•Yeasayer

That does not suck, not at all. For an event that costs zero dollars to attend, Seth Hurwitz and company really outdid themselves this year.

Tickets will be available starting on Saturday at 10 a.m. via TicketFly. There is a VIP option for $125, which will grant access to assigned pavilion seating; additionally, those who donate $5 to The RE*Generation (Virgin’s charitable initiative to end youth homelessness) when they reserve tickets will receive an audio mix comprised of all of the artists scheduled to perform at FreeFest.
