The 11-candidate field for Miami-Dade County mayor has been whittled down to two.

Election results Tuesday night confirmed what poll numbers and political experts had predicted would occur: former Hialeah Mayor Julio Robaina and former Miami-Dade County Commissioner Carlos Gimenez will battle in a June 28 runoff election for the mayor’s post.

With all precincts reporting, Robaina placed first in Tuesday’s voting, receiving more than 33 percent of votes cast. Gimenez was less than five points behind with nearly 29 percent of votes cast.

Former state Rep. Marcelo Llorente placed a distant third at nearly 15 percent, followed by rapper-turned-politician Luther “Luke” Campbell at 11 percent.
