Elmer G. “Geronimo” Pratt – Black Panther, Godfather of 2Pac, Passes At 63

Former Black Panther Elmer G. “Geronimo” Pratt died in Tanzania late Thursday (June 3rd) night. Pratt was the former Minister of Defense for the Black Panther Party, and in 1972 was unjustly prosecuted and eventually served 27 years in prison for a murder. Pratt came to epitomize the oppression suffered by many left-wing activists from the 60s and 70s at the hands of the C.I.A. and American Justice system. It was proven that he was a victim of former CIA head J. Edgar Hoover’s CointelPro movement that targeted prominent civil rights, anti-war, and community leaders.

Pratt was also the godfather of Tupac Shakur, and the rapper mentioned his infamous godfather on his album Don Killuminati: the 7-Day Theory.

Geronimo Pratt was 63 when he died from a heart attack.

CyHi Da Prynce Royal Flush 2 Cover

Cyhi da Prynce sits down with Billboard and spoke on his upcoming mixtape  Royal Flush 2 which will be his last mixtape then he will work on his debut album. It hits the net on June 14. Check out except from the interview below.

Tell us about the look and feel of “Royal Flush 2.”
The actual visual is a more aggressive version of the first one. The first one was more laidback; it was wintertime music because it was wintertime so I wanted it to feel wintertime-ish. This one is more summertime, more energetic, more show-driven music, more aggressive, so you know that’s what Royal Flush II is- it’s the flipside of Royal Flush I. The artwork is self-explanatory: It shows a prince in all six forms and fashions, and the music displays that as well. And you know, the visuals, everything we do around it, is going to display the “Prince of America”, and that’s who I am. So when I go to these other countries, I really represent America and I really get to sit down with these other princes and politicians and try to change the world.

I’m a 23 year old rockstar with NO KIDS! What’s up with everybody wantin me to be a parent? I’m just a girl, I can only be your/our voice.
Cuz we all know how difficult/embarrassing it is to communicate touchy subject matters to anyone especially our parents! And this is why! Cuz we turn the other cheek! U can’t hide your kids from society,or they’ll never learn how to adapt! This is the REAL WORLD!
The music industry isn’t exactly Parents R Us! We have the freedom to make art, LET US! Its your job to make sure they dont turn out like US.

Kanye Performed At Gil Scott-Heron Memorial

Platinum-selling rapper Kayne West led the mourners Thursday at a memorial service for Gil Scott-Heron, the innovative spoken-word artist hailed as the “Godfather of Rap.”
West closed out the Riverside Church service by performing his song “Lost In the World” – featuring a sample of Scott-Heron’s “Who Will Survive in America?”
West, dressed in black and sporting a pair of dark sunglasses, hugged members of Scott-Heron’s family at the end of the service.
Scott-Heron’s daughter, Gia, performed the Bette Midler song “The Rose” before reading an original poem, and the Gil Scott-Heron Band played their front man’s “Better Days Ahead.”
Speakers included his first wife, Brenda Sykes, who reminisced about NBA Hall of Famer Kareem Abdul-Jabbar introducing her to Scott-Heron.
The program for the memorial listed Stevie Wonder as an honorary pallbearer, but the superstar musician was not in attendance.
Scott-Heron’s body was not brought to the landmark Harlem church for the memorial.
