1st Hip Hop Emails

Please sit down for this.

Ah man, we’ve come a long way baby. With MTV celebrating their 30th birthday on Monday, VH1 dug into their archives and dusted off a 17 year old clip of Yo! MTV Raps host Fab 5 Freddy, explaining email.

It’s easy to laugh now, but watching this in 2011 is almost surreal. Who would’ve thought technology would’ve come so far that you can send an email, or access the internet for that matter, via your telephone. If you were lucky enough to even afford a computer, it took forever to log onto the ‘net. For Christ sakes, take look at that laptop Freddy’s using.

Reason for Letter about Watch the Throne Release #WTT

Hundreds of independent record stores in the U.S. have signed a letter criticizing music superstars Jay-Z and Kanye West for signing exclusive release deals with iTunes and Best Buy for their Watch the Throne collaboration.

Music’s dynamic duo have agreed to make the release available to iTunes customers on Aug. 8, four days ahead of everyone else, while Best Buy will exclusively sell the deluxe album till Aug. 23.

The Alliance of Independent Media Stores released a letter Friday saying the deals are “bad news” and asks the singing duo to reconsider allowing more than 1,700 indie retailers equal access to the record release on the same day as iTunes and Best Buy.

Wale Performs Show To Increase HIV/AIDS Awareness In Africa

From TBD:

Tomorrow, Wale joins forces with a number of young African musicians for the African Connection Relief Event (A.C.R.E.), a benefit concert at the Patriot Center.

He’ll be appearing with singer/songwriter TuFace Idibia, who is already immensely popular in his home country of Nigeria, and is gaining international attention, thanks to his recent BET Award win in the “Best International Act” category. M.I., Banky W, Wizkid, Naeto C, and many others will also perform to raise money for Artists for Charity (AFC), an organization started in East Africa that “strives to increase awareness about HIV/AIDS throughout the continent.” The evening will be hosted by the “African King of Comedy” Michael Blackston (yes, the dude from Next Friday),

The show starts at 7:30 p.m., Tickets ($38-109) are still available at www.acreconcert.com.
