Geno Smith denied that entertainer Jay-Z was involved in the recruitment process before the Jets’ rookie quarterback hired the rap mogul’s Roc Nation Sports to represent him last week. The NFL Players Association has sent a letter of inquiry to contract agent Kim Miale, who was recently hired by Jay-Z and represented no players in the league before Smith came aboard. The investigation is ongoing.

Smith said after Thursday’s practice that he’s not worried about the NFLPA investigation into whether the “runner rule,” which prohibits anyone other than licensed agents registered with the Players Association from recruiting players, was violated.

“I don’t have any concerns,” Smith said. “Jay-Z didn’t recruit me. I chose Roc Nation Sports for management because it was something that myself and my family came to a conclusion and we felt comfortable with. And I’m happy to be a part of it. Here, I’m here to talk about football. That’s life outside of football, and what I do in this locker room and on that field is what matters now.”
