Nas announced today that a special 20th Anniversary Edition of his debut album Illmatic will be released on April 15th via Sony Legacy. The remastered double disc album — titled Illmatic XX — will feature several rare remixes, unreleased demos and freestyles, and is currently available for pre-order through iTunes and Amazon.
To help push the re-release, Nas will also go on a U.S. tour where he will perform Illmatic in its entirety; the tour will include dates at the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts and this year’s Coachella Valley Music & Arts Festival. You can check out a quote from the man himself, as well as the tracklisting for the project, below.
“With Illmatic, I didn’t think about it. I just did it. I believe everybody has good instincts. Now I’m a man from that past and I’m supremely grateful. There’s a Nigerian proverb ‘What is past is prologue’. I’m here today because of Illmatic.”
