From NY Daily News:

Philip Seymour Hoffman’s mother has broken her silence over her son’s death — saying he was “a gift to me for 46 years.”

“It has been a devastating loss for us,” Marilyn O’Connor said in a statement read at an upstate film series honoring the late actor.

“We miss and cry for the little boy and the man, the brother, the uncle, the husband, the father, the friend, and while we will miss seeing him, we will also miss his talent, his knowledge of his craft, and seeing results of his hard work.

“He was a gift to me for 46 years,” it added.

The statement was read by Hoffman’s friend, retired film critic Jack Garner, at the event in Rochester.

O’Connor typed out the tribute before it was revealed Friday that the 46-year-old Oscar winner overdosed on a lethal cocktail of drugs.
