Brad Paisley Feat. LL Cool J – Accidental Racist

I don’t think anyone is checking for country rap tunes (not counting UGK) since Nelly & Tim McGraw got in bed with each other. You see how Kid Rock had to take a seat.

LL Cool J did speak on the collab:

“You know, working with Brad was amazing. We did one for his album, which is called ‘Accidental Racist,’ which I think is very thought provoking and very interesting. It’s going to get a lot of attention… and I’ll leave it at that ’cause I wanna let him [talk about it]… I don’t wanna spoil his thing on his album but we did something that was really cool. The song we did on my record… it’s not like I’m trying to do a gimmicky thing. It’s not like, ‘Oh the country meets the rapper and it’s a hoedown!’ It’s none of that. He’s a great singer. I let him sing on something that I felt he would sound cool on… And play the guitar as well because musicianship is a huge part of this record. That’s why I also got like Bootsy Collins on this album. I wanted great musicians on my album. Brad was a lot of fun in the studio. He’s playing the guitar. I mean, this whole album is like a genre-smashing moment.”

Roc Nation Signs To Universal Music

Jay-Z_2

So I just learned something today; the deal that Hov locked in with Warner Music was a worldwide publishing deal. Now, shortly after the news of Roc Nation Sports, Jay-Z has inked a full partnership deal with Universal Music….he also spoke on the marriage:

“We are looking forward to working with Lucian [Grainge, Chairman and CEO of UMG] and the incredible team he’s assembled at Universal. We would like to applaud Lucian for collaborating with us to strike a new age deal. This agreement presents a unique opportunity for Roc Nation’s artists-being able to continue to operate as an independent label with the strength, power and reach of the best major. I look forward to a long and prosperous collaboration with UMG. It feels good to be home.”

De La Soul – Hard Knock TV Interview (Part 2)

Part 2 starts with De La sharing their thoughts on what has kept them together as a group after all these years. As the conversation progress De La speaks on the new generation of MC’s. Pos points out that although he likes certain songs from Lil Wayne, Rick Ross, Kendrick Lamar, Drake, Joey Badass, etc and he appreciates bits and pieces from them but he doesn’t think that there is one album that is setting the bar. Maseo points out that Hip Hop just turned 39 years old. When it first started most people outside the culture thought it was a fad and wouldn’t be around for too long. “We are in our episode of the 80’s with disco and r&b…but we are coming out of that.” “It became big business.” Dave adds that its about having a balance. We need more platforms like Paid Dues that allow artists like Jean Grae, Tech Nine, Scarface, etc a chance to be seen more than just whats on MTV, Billboard Charts or who is number one on Itunes. “Never forget that there is another side to what is going on than up there on the charts.”
