Laz Alonzo Has A Hilarious T.I. & Tiny Story

“When this guy gets out of jail I’m going to be in trouble…
One of my buddies had a wedding down in Jamaica. I love destination weddings. When I decide to get married one of these days it’s going to be away somewhere people can kick it for a few days before the wedding. We were all a big happy family by the time the wedding happened. On the wedding night the couple went off to do their little honeymoon thing and we decided to have a house party. We had these villas with the music going and a pool party.
All of a sudden we see some hands and some feet crawling over our back wall! The first thing we were thinking was, “We’re in trouble. The Jamaicans are coming to get us.” You’d be surprised at how a lot of these guys that act all hard were looking for the exits. But we noticed that the hands and feet were a lot lighter “complected” than the typical Jamaicans we’ve seen on the island while we were there.
Sure enough when they poked their heads up it was T.I., Tiny his wife and their body guard who climbed over our wall. They were also vacationing at the same resort and they just wanted to join the party.
Now you are T.I. ! Had you knocked on the door and said “Hey Laz we want to party with ya’ll” there was no way in the world I was going to turn down T.I. But the fact that they made their grand entrance we had to give them a round of applause. That was my first time meeting T.I.”

Warner Music Group sold for $3.3 billion to Access Industries’ Len Blavatnik

Access Industries, a holding company founded by oil baron Len Blavatnik, won the auction to buy Warner Music Group Corp. for $3.3 billion in cash, the companies announced Friday morning.
Blavatnik edged out more than a dozen other suitors including Sony Music Group, supermarket magnate Ron Burkle, Platinum Equity, Live Nation Entertainment and investment firm Kohlberg Kravis & Roberts, whose unsolicited offer late last year kicked off the auction process. KKR’s partner in the bidding was German music company Bertelsmann.
The deal calls for Warner to receive $8.25 per share, a 34% premium over the company’s average stock price over the last six weeks, the company said. It’s also 75% higher than Warner’s closing price on Jan. 20, the day before the New York Times published news of the bidding. Warner’s share closed at $7.90 on Thursday.

Revisiting…Notorious B.I.G./Big Kap Incident While Performing In Sacramento (From 1995)

You know what made Big Kap, a great DJ? A major fuck up. Or at least that’s how he tells it. In the summer of ’95 Kap headed out to San Francisco with Biggie and some of Junior M.A.F.I.A to perform at the annual KMEL Summer Jam. But what was set to be a hugely successful headlining show, turned out to be a challenge in light of the extreme heat. Kap blames it on the heat, and Big blamed it on Kap. In our exclusive interview (F73), Kap tells the story:


“I’m throwing the records and it’s like, alright, cool we’re going through it. But it’s so hot the heat is actually warping the records. The records is melting! So the records are warping right before me and it’s just like woooommp. And Big looking at me. We had this thing like, every time you make a mistake on stage during the show, you get fined $100. So during the show, Big heard the first womp, and he was like ‘A hundred dollars!’ The record is crumbling up right before my eyes. Then it’s getting bad and Cease is like, ‘Two hundred dollars!’ And then Big, he just stopped everything and was like, ‘Yo! What the fuck is going on?!’ I’m looking and my records look like a piece of bacon back there. Big is tight! He had a water bottle, he threw the water bottle at me, and just walks off the stage.”
According to Kap, everyone abandoned him after the show—he even had to take a cab back to the hotel alone with all his DJ equipment. But it turns out that, in the end, Big wasn’t too angry:

“So, I go to Big’s room, and I knock on the door. And then he opens the door laughing! And he got a bunch of girls in the room! I’m bashful and I’m like, Yo, I’m sorry, I apologize for all that. He was like, “Man, I knew! I saw those records. I knew it was the sun and all that. But I couldn’t let them think that it was me out there messing up!”

Lauryn Hill Performs At The House Of Blues In Houston; Devi Dev Speaks On Her Showing Up Late

I have so many mixed emotions about last night’s concert at House of Blues. Like many of you reading this I have been a HUGE L Boogie fan for years. Stood by her through years of coming and coming, flakey-ness and neglect. I mean…I even called her “Ms. Hill” when she asked us to stop using Lauryn.


Last night the show was 4 hours behind schedule. The sad thing is, this isn’t an isolated issue… every show…in every city…is between 2 and 4 hours behind, which leads me to ask….How much do we have to go through before as fans we can get a little more respect from “Ms. Hill”?

Because of the late start, Lauryn was only able to perform for about an hour. And yes…the hour was fabulous. She went through Miseducation with a live band and alot of energy and had the crowd (what was left of it) belting their hearts out to songs like Ex-Factor fanatically (myself included). Check out the video above and be glad you didn’t have to wait 4 hours to sing along. – Devi Dev

Beastie Boys Stopped By The Kevin & Bean Show To Talk About The New Album

Mike D and Ad Rock from the Beastie Boys stopped by the Kevin & Bean show this morning on the release date of their album, Hot Sauce Committee Part 2.

We’ve had a lot of Beasties over a lot of years, and they summed it up this morning with a simple “you’re welcome.” They’re a group that’s in it for the long haul – partly because they love what they do and are good at it, and partly because they “really don’t have anything else [they] know how to do. [Their] skill sets are lacking in other areas.”

Their long-form music video, Fight For Your Right Revisited has the greatest list of stars in any film I’ve ever seen. It’s incredible the caliber of talent that the Boys were able to pull together for this project. The were originally working with Swiss director, Nathanial Hörnblowér, but that things didn’t go so well this time around, so the task fell onto the shoulders of Adam Yauch and the rest of the Beastie Boys.

Odd Future Perform In Paris

One interesting thought: while their sound is considered different by American Hip-Hop standards, and lot of their music is reminiscent of how I picture European rap (ex: ‘Transylvania’)……it just fits with that culture for some reason. You may disagree. More clips after the jump.
