UPDATE: We now hear that the date will be May 18th.

****************************************

Taken from the NY Post:

Kanye West is due back in the States next month, Page Six has exclusively learned, but it’s not necessarily to rush to the side of his very pregnant reality star girlfriend, Kim Kardashian. Sources tell us the rapper — who’s been working on a new album in France — will appear as musical guest on “SNL” on May 18. West’s been holed up in a palatial pad ever since Paris fashion week in February, leaving his baby mama alone to brave pregnancy and public scrutiny over her weight, maternity fashions and upcoming divorce trial with Kris Humphries. Sources tell us the rapper’s even pondering a permanent move to Paris. An NBC rep would only say the show hasn’t announced its lineup.

The O’Jays Sue Crown Royal, Diss Big K.R.I.T. Over Song Use

screenshot_38

The O’Jays have sued Crown Royal for the use of ‘For The Love Of Money’ in this commercial…..but the true sting is what they had to say about Big K.R.I.T.’s addition to the track (which was a collaboration with 9th Wonder). From BET:

The O’Jays have a $1 million bone to pick with the makers of Crown Royal for unauthorized use of their 1973 hit “For the Love of Money.”

Founding members Eddie Levert, Sr. and Walter Williams, Sr. filed a lawsuit, claiming the company’s new commercial featuring NBA legend Dr. J is “humiliating” and “demeaning.”

Despite the theme and Crown Royal’s past attempts to woo urban radio listeners (the brand has teamed up with Big Boi and Jermaine Dupri in the past), Levert and Williams are not impressed. They are seeking a seven figure payout and turned their ire on K.R.I.T., too, calling his rhyme “childish” and calling him a “poseur with limited ability to carry a tune.”

2 Chainz Acquitted Of Drug Charges In Maryland

2-Chainz-Arrested

If you recall, 2 Chainz was arrested in Maryland over a weed grinder back in February. Here’s your who-really-cares update, courtesy of DCist:

The rapper 2 Chainz was found not guilty on marijuana and paraphernalia possession charges in a Talbot County, Md. court today. A judge ruled that 2 Chainz, whose real name is Tauheed Epps, could not be proven as the owner of a metal grinder that was found inside a bag during a traffic stop earlier this year, The (Easton, Md.) Nicki Minaj To Play Alongside Cameron Diaz In Upcoming Film

nicki_minaj_performance_2_pure_nightclub-1

As reported by Deadline:

Nicki Minaj, whose clever and sassy commentary makes American Idol bearable, has signed on to star with Cameron Diaz in The Other Woman, the pic that Nick Cassavetes is directing for Fox. Diaz plays a woman who realizes she is not her boyfriend’s primary lover, and teams up with the man’s wife to plot revenge. Game Of Thrones‘ Nikolaj Coster-Waldau plays the cad, and Leslie Mann, Kate Upton and Chicago Fire‘s Taylor Kinney also star. Minaj makes her screen-starring debut, playing the larger-than-life assistant to Diaz’s lawyer character. The assistant is opinionated and sharp and brutally honest, and we know Minaj can handle that. The film shoots in New York in May. She was repped on the deal by Gee Roberson, Brian Sher and attorney Kenny Meiselas.

Lauryn Hill Addresses New Record Deal, Old Tax Troubles In Open Letter

Laurynhilljdotshots

Following the news of her inking a new deal with Sony (and barely escaping jail time in the process….for now), Lauryn Hill has written a letter to the masses giving her account of what’s been going on, in her usual fashion.

Read the letter below.

It has been reported that I signed a new record deal, and that I did this to pay taxes. Yes, I have recently entered into an agreement with Sony Worldwide Entertainment, to launch a new label, on which my new music will be released. And yes, I am working on new music.

I’ve remained silent, after an extensive healing process. This has been a 10+ year battle, for a long time played out behind closed doors, but now in front of the public eye. This is an old conflict between art and commerce… free minds, and minds that are perhaps overly tethered to structure. This is about inequity, and the resulting disenfranchisement caused by it. I’ve been fighting for existential and economic freedom, which means the freedom to create and live without someone threatening, controlling, and/or manipulating the art and the artist, by tying the purse strings.

It took years for me to get out of the ‘parasitic’ dynamic of my youth, and into a deal that better reflects my true contribution as an artist, and (purportedly) gives me the control necessary to create a paradigm suitable for my needs. I have been working towards this for a long time, not just because of my current legal situation, but because I am an artist, I love to create, and I need the proper platform to do so.

The nature of my new business venture, as well as the dollar amount reported, was inaccurate, only a portion of the overall deal. Keep in mind, my past recordings have sold over 50,000,000 units worldwide, earning the label a tremendous amount of money (a fraction of which actually came to me).

Only a completely complicated set of traps, manipulations, and inequitable business arrangements could put someone who has accomplished the things that I have, financially in need of anything. I am one artist who finds value in openly discussing the dynamics within this industry that force artists to compromise or distort themselves and what they do, rather than allowing them to make the music that people need. There are volumes that could (and will) be said.

People Only .. Justin Bieber's tour bus-1740205

From MTV:

According to Swedish paper Aftonbladet a spokesperson for the Stockholm police department confirmed that around 7:10 p.m. local time an officer detected the smell of pot around Bieber’s bus, which was parked outside of the Grand Hotel. After the bus left the hotel on its way to the singer’s show at the Globe Arena, the officer contacted the narcotics unit, which issued a warrant to search the vehicle.

“A colleague felt a strong smell of marijuana, like someone had been smoking in the bus,” a press officer for the Stockholm PD told the paper.

An hour after Bieber took the stage, police searched the empty bus in the parking garage and found a small amount of narcotics, which local papers reported was marijuana, as well as a taser. At press time, no suspect has been identified yet and the bus was not impounded.

Amy Winehouse Documentary Is Coming…..To Cannes

There’s a lot of footage of Amy Winehouse at her best and her worst, and those clips are being used to create a documentary of the fallen star. From Hollywood Reporter:

Universal Music and acclaimed documentary filmmaker Asif Kapadia are teaming to bring the story of Amy Winehouse’s life and career to the big screen.

Focus Features International, a division within the Universal empire, will shop the high-profile project to foreign buyers at next month’s Cannes Film Market.

“This is an incredibly modern, emotional and relevant film that has the power to capture the zeitgeist and shine a light on the world we live in in a way that very few films can,” said Kapadia and Gay-Rees.

JLS’ Oritsé Williams Breaks Down Over Split During ‘Alan Carr’ Appearance

jlssplit

The video will come during the premiere of the interview tomorrow. I think we found the member of the group that will be struggling post-JLS….from Digital Spy:

Oritsé Williams breaks down in tears when talking about the group’s split on this week’s edition of Alan Carr: Chatty Man.

The singer has to be comforted by bandmate Marvin Humes when the pair appear with Aston Merrygold and JB Gill on the Channel 4 chat show.

Williams’s outburst comes after Merrygold admits that “reservations were had” when JLS made the decision not to commit to a new five-album deal.

“It’s real for us you know, even Ortisé’s reaction,” Merrygold said. “We’ve been through a hell of a lot… we don’t want to get pushed out of the industry, we want to obviously go out with a bang.”

Gill added: “It’s Ortisé’s baby effectively you know, he brought us together.”

Asked by Carr if he had been against the split, Williams replied: “It is what it is, I guess. The decision was made and we all felt it was the right thing to do.”

Explaining his emotional reaction, he continued: “It’s only because I saw the fans literally as we were coming in to see you and just seeing them cry and seeing them upset really evoked that emotion in me.

“But you know, it is a celebration. At the end of the day we’ve had an amazing six years together. We’ve been on a journey.

“Nobody else may have seen the hard times as well as the good times, but we’re the luckiest four boys in the world.”

The Dogg Pound & Bone Thugs-N-Harmony To Join Forces On New Project

doggpoudkday4-20

Kurupt recently announced that not only has DPG reconciled with Bone Thugs, but they are also working on a collaborative project together, aptly (or lazily) titled Thug Pound:

Right now we’re fixing to be working on a Thug Pound album with all of Bone Thugs-N-Harmony and all of Dogg Pound. Snoop [Dogg], Daz [Dillinger], myself, Soopafly, Krayzie [Bone], Wish [Bone], Bizzy [Bone], [Flesh-N-Bone], Layzie [Bone], the whole ball of wax. These are new works.

I’m honestly not sure that anyone will be checking for this…..it’s more than a decade too late.

UPDATE: I assume this is from MEdia Takeout (I don’t care to look), but the above photo is supposed to show Trina breaking out after hearing the news of her brother’s death. Our condolences go out to her and her family.

Reported by NBC Miami:

Miami-Dade Police said Tuesday night they have arrested a 27-year-old man in connection with the fatal shooting of the brother of the famous female rapper Trina in northwest Miami Tuesday morning.

Ron Dobson faces a second-degree murder charge, police said in an arrest affidavit. It wasn’t immediately known whether he has an attorney.

Residents said that the rapper’s brother Wilbrent Bain, who goes by the nickname “Gonk,” was shot and killed on Northwest 91st Street. Bain and the man who shot him were friends and lived around the corner from each other at Northwest 91st Street and 24th Avenue, neighbors told NBC 6.

The incident happened at about 9:35 a.m., according to police.

The two men had a dispute, and the victim began to get off his bicycle when Dobson took a firearm from his waistband and shot him multiple times, the affidavit said.

After he was read his Miranda rights, Dobson confessed to his involvement in the victim’s death, the affidavit said.

Tyler, The Creator Speaks On Earl Sweatshirt’s Mother: “She Thinks I’m A Bad Influence”

Get More:
Music News

First off, Rob Markman is in way over his head (above)…..and it’s hilarious.

I remember a while ago when Earl Sweatshirt was like a myth set in suspended animation; in the middle of Odd Future’s meteoric rise, Sweatshirt’s mother unceremoniously removed him, not only out of the group, but to a military academy in Samoa. While he’s now back in the mix, Tyler, The Creator spoke on his non-relationship with Earl’s mom….from MTV:

“I don’t know what it is. It can’t be because she thinks he’s drinking or doing drugs or anything because I never had a sip of alcohol in my life and I don’t smoke or do anything so you can’t blame me for that,” Tyler said on Tuesday night when he sat with hip-hop journalist Elliott Wilson and an audience for the first of his #CRWN interviews at New York City’s Highline Ballroom. “For some reason she thinks I’m a bad influence on her kid, but he’s doing pretty good now. I totally do not understand it.”

JLS Announce Split

jls-wylde-magazine

All good things….from The Sun:

Aston Merrygold, 25, Marvin Humes, 28, Jonathan “JB” Gill and Oritsé Williams, both 26, agonised for months before deciding to bow out with a farewell tour after five years together.

Emotional Aston told The Sun: “It’s just that time. We are still best of friends and always will be — but this is the end.”

The boyband have come a long way since finishing second to Alexandra Burke on 2008’s X Factor.
They have been showered with awards, flogged 1.5MILLION gig tickets, sold more than 10MILLION records and had FIVE No1 singles — more than any other act from a reality TV talent show.

Marvin, 28, said: “It’s an emotional time. There’s no getting away from that. We have been through so much together.

“But we have to be mature and look at this decision as a celebration of what we managed to achieve.

“We never wanted to overstay our welcome. We never wanted to be that band where people said, ‘Oh, bloody hell. It’s JLS again.’

“We wanted to finish on a high. We’re finishing with an arena tour — our third arena tour — and that is a massive achievement.

Iggy Azalea Signs With Def Jam

020312-music-iggy-azalea

Iggy Azalea announced a little while ago on her Twitter that he has signed with Def Jam Records. I’m confused; being that she was signed to T.I.’s Grand Hustle imprint, I expected her major label choice to be Atlantic Records. She also mentioned that she’s still connected to Tip’s Hustle Gang.
