Migos In Hot Water Over Anti-Gay Comments Made About ILOVEMAKONNEN (UPDATE)

UPDATE: Migos have seen responded….that can be read below.

Artists, artists, artists: you really need to be careful (ie. politically-correct) with what you say in today’s times. Rolling Stone recently released an interview with Migos, of which the below excerpt — which sees them responding to ILOVEMAKONNEN’s coming out of the closet — is taken:

All are wildly different MCs, illustrating the “diversity” that Quavo says is one of the things he most loves about Atlanta. And so I’m surprised by Migos’ reaction when I mention iLoveMakonnen, the local MC who just came out as gay on Twitter. “Damn, Makonnen!” Quavo bellows after an awkward interlude. I mention support I saw online for Makonnen’s decision. “They supported him?” Quavo asks, raising an eyebrow. “That’s because the world is fucked up,” says Offset. “This world is not right,” Takeoff says. “We ain’t saying it’s nothing wrong with the gays,” says Quavo. But he suggests that Makonnen’s sexuality undermines his credibility, given the fact that “he first came out talking about trapping and selling Molly, doing all that.”

He frowns. “That’s wack, bro.”

As expected, social media has responded accordingly. In related news, Atlanta star Keith Sanfield (who’s also a rapper, so there’s that) dissed Migos in a now-deleted tweet:

Obviously, this is a bit odd given the enormous amount of praise that fellow Atlanta star Donald Glover gave to the trio during a recent awards show. Hopefully, he’ll elaborate more on that soon.

Major Labels Reportedly Hit Spinrilla With Lawsuit

As seen via The Hollywood Reporter:

The Recording Industry Association of America on Friday sued Spinrilla and its founder Jeffery Dylan Copeland in Georgia federal court, on behalf of UMG, Sony Music Entertainment, Warner Bros. Records, Atlantic Recording Corporation and LaFace Records.

Kendrick Lamar, Kanye West and Beyonce are among the artists that Spinrilla offers through its streaming site and app who aren’t being paid for the use of their music, according to the complaint. The description of the service evokes memories of Napster, the original music industry troublemaker.

“Through the Spinrilla website and apps, users with an artist account can upload content that any other user can then download or stream on demand for free, an unlimited number of times,” writes attorney James Lamberth in the complaint. “A substantial amount of content uploaded to the Spinrilla website and apps consists of popular sound recordings whose copyrights are owned by Plaintiffs.”

RIAA says it has identified more than 21,000 copyrighted sound recordings owned by plaintiffs that are available through the service. The labels are suing for direct and secondary copyright infringement and are seeking actual or statutory damages and an injunction.

RIAA issued a statement about the lawsuit Friday: “Spinrilla specializes in ripping off music creators by offering thousands of unlicensed sound recordings for free. Fans today have access to millions upon millions of songs from innovative platforms and services that pay creators — this kind of illicit activity has no place in today’s music marketplace.”

Spinrilla did not immediately respond to a request for comment. It’s worth noting the website features a section dedicated to the Digital Millennium Copyright Act, and includes a template for a takedown requests. “Spinrilla takes copyright infringement very seriously,” says the site. “In order to provide the best mixtapes and ensure top quality we do not allow infringed upon works to be posted on our website.”

Lil Mo Fired From WKYS (Details)

As seen via The Jasmine Brand, Lil Mo has been fired from her morning show position alongside DJ Quicksilva on 93.9 (WKYS). While early speculation pointed to comments made about Spike Lee in support of Chrisette Michele (above and below), sources say that, ultimately, unprofessionalism did her in:

She’s super talented and gave lots of energy on-air, but there was another side that was alarming to the station. Some of the things she said on social media to people, were sending red flags. She also handled a few situations totally inappropriate it was starting to become more of a hazard.

#LilMo is blasting #SpikeLee for criticizing #ChrisetteMichele. (@thelilmoshow @chrisettemichele @officialspikelee #trump)

She did respond via social media as well:

Wale Sounds Off On The Music Industry

As can be seen in the now-deleted Instagram post above, Wale is pretty fed up with the industry and the relationship within. We’re not sure, but this could be some frustration stemming from whatever could be happening with Wale’s long-awaited album SHINE (we’re wondering when the hell it’s going to be released, anyway). To this, we say: real sh*t, Wale.

BREAKING: WorldStarHipHop Founder Q Dead At 43

Whatever your opinion is, it cant be denied how much of a change WorldStarHipHop had on the culture (as well as media) as a whole. With that said, it sucks to hear that its creator — Lee “Q” O’Denat — has passed at the age of 43. As seen on TMZ:

An autopsy is scheduled for later today … although one source tells us Q died of a heart attack.

Soulja Boy Is An Idiot

Soulja Boy pleads not guilty to his new charges, by the way. From TMZ:

Soulja Boy is now facing a felony for the guns police found in his house during his December arrest … TMZ has learned.

The L.A. County D.A. just slapped him with 2 felonies — possession of an assault weapon and being a felon in possession of a firearm. He was also charged with a misdemeanor for receiving stolen property … cops say one of the guns in Soulja’s house was reportedly stolen from a cop car.

The assault weapon charge is for a Mini Draco AR-15 … which is illegal for anyone to possess in California.
If convicted Soulja could face more than 4 years in prison.

Taxstone Denied Bail (DETAILS)

From Reuters, where you can read the full story:

A federal judge in Manhattan revoked a hip-hop podcast host’s bail on Wednesday after a prosecutor said that a witness could link him to a shooting at a concert last year in which the bodyguard for a rapper he had long feuded with was killed.

Daryl Campbell, who goes by the name Taxstone on his podcast, had a day earlier been granted a $500,000 bond by a magistrate judge after he was arrested on Monday on federal firearm charges.

But U.S. District Judge Lewis Kaplan reversed that decision, calling Campbell, 31, a danger to the community in light of the witness and DNA belonging to him found on a gun that authorities say was used in the shooting.

“The evidence is clear and convincing that detention is appropriate,” Kaplan said.

The charges stemmed from a shooting on May 25 at the Irving Plaza venue in Manhattan, where the rapper T.I. was scheduled to perform, that led to a bodyguard for rapper Troy Ave, Ronald McPhatter, being killed.

DAMN: Bobby Shmurda’s Associate Gets 100+ Years In Prison

As seen on HNHH:

Bobby Shmurda associate Santino Broderick isn’t happy with Justice Abraham Clott.

The prison industrial complex is alive and well this week, as Bobby Shmurda associate Santino Broderick received an astounding 117 1/2 to 130 years in prison yesterday. Based on the lengthy sentence, you’d assume Broderick AKA Cueno has been convicted of multiple grisly murder charges. That isn’t the case here, as the GS9 member was convicted of conspiracy to commit murder and multiple additional felonies, crimes painted painted by the prosecution as gang-related violence.

Understandably, Broderick was distraught in court, cussing out Justice Abraham Clott, who reportedly remained calm throughout. Some of the phrases Broderick threw at the judge included “suck my dick” and “fuck yourself.”

In a statement released yesterday, Special Narcotics Prosecutor Bridget G. Brennan said the following:

“Santino Broderick was convicted of multiple incidents involving shocking violence, and which reflected utter disregard for human life … The sentence imposed on him today will protect the community, and appropriately punish behavior that terrorized countless innocent people.”

ILOVEMAKONNEN & Chance The Rapper’s Brother Have Come Out Of The Closet

Two big reveals from a couple of Hip-Hop’s brightest and up-and-coming stars. First: earlier this week, Chance The Rapper’s brother and talented artist Taylor Bennett took to social media to reveal that he’s bisexual:

Then — today — ILOVEMAKONNEN revealed to the world that he’s gay (which, admittedly, isn’t really that big of a surprise…sorry bruh):

Respect to both artists. Frank Ocean and Mykki Blanco included, we’re definitely living into a new age of openness within Hip-Hop.

So…Dan Snyder Was Partying For Trump Last Night

It should also be noted that — earlier last year — Snyder’s wife donated to Donald Trump’s campaign. So, yea…f*** the whole family, really. From The Hill, where you can read more on the story:

Washington Redskins owner Daniel Snyder was among the guests at an exclusive reception in the nation’s capital Tuesday night to celebrate President-elect Donald Trump’s upcoming inauguration.

The controversial owner was spotted by reporters at the black-tie event, billed as the “Chairman’s Global Dinner,” at the historic Andrew W. Mellon Auditorium in downtown Washington.

The event, which 500 guests were expected to attend, is intended to introduce foreign dignitaries to Trump’s Cabinet picks and lawmakers.

Kodak Black Wants To Fight Lil Wayne (Video)

We realized something: some time ago, Lil Wayne did an interview when certain names were rattled off — including Kodak Black’s — for his opinion, and Wayne acted as if he didn’t know who any of the mentioned were. So Kodak sending these increasingly savage shots at Weezy kind of make sense (whether its ridiculous or not).

Anyways, he now wants to fight Wayne and nab his self-proclaimed “Greatest Rapper Alive” title. And it looks like 50 Cent is looking to cash in:

@KODAKBLACK IS WIT DA SHIT. I'm calling @liltunechi now. Stay tuned #thefightstillon

Chris Brown Reportedly Banned From Gym Chain

Maybe he should hold the aggression for his upcoming fight against Big Soulja. From TMZ:

Chris Brown won’t be stepping foot inside a Life Time fitness center again … so says the company, who just slapped CB with a lifetime ban after the singer went ballistic at their NYC location.

TMZ broke the story … Brown was booted from the gym Friday after getting into it with a manager. We’re told Chris and his crew were on the basketball courts playing loud music, cussing and hurling insults. Witnesses say a manager asked them to leave and Chris lost it … even spitting on the way out.

However, the LT staff won’t have to worry about CB ever again … a rep for the company tells TMZ he and his group have been banned permanently from the company’s more than 100 locations.

The rep says Chris’ actions, behavior and aggression toward their staff was completely unacceptable and they’ve got no place for it.

As for Chris, we’ve reached out to his people … so far, no word back.

DCMJ To Hand Out 4,200 Joints During Trump Inauguration

As seen via Snopes:

“One way to Make America Great Again is to acknowledge the failure of the war on drugs”

On 29 December 2016, the Washington, DC, based pro-legalization group known as DCMJ posted an invitation for an event called “#Trump420” on their web site:

You are cordially invited to join DCMJ for the inaugural #Trump420 taking place on January 20, 2017 in Washington, DC!

We will gather on the west side of Dupont Circle at 8am for coffee & tea and parade down to the National Mall at 10am. Along the way we’ll hand out 4,200 joints of legally grown cannabis! At 4 minutes and 20 seconds into President Trump’s speech we’ll light up! (unless President Trump comes out now in support of full cannabis legalization in all 50 States and DC!)

We legalized cannabis in Washington, DC and we are not going to let anyone take that away from us! This is an outreach opportunity to show President Trump’s supporters we are the marijuana majority! Join us for smokin’ fun time!
Possession of up to two ounces of marijuana is legal in the District of Columbia, thanks to the passage of Ballot Initiative 71, a campaign that was headed by the DCMJ in 2014. What is not legal, however, in D.C. is purchasing or selling marijuana. In this respect, the only legal way to distribute marijuana to large groups of people in D.C. is to give it away free of charge.

Merely smoking a joint on private D.C. land would be legal, DCMJ founder Adam Eidinger explained to USA Today, but not on federal land such as the National Mall, where the protest is scheduled to occur:

We are going to tell them that if they smoke on federal property, they are risking arrest. But, that’s a form of civil disobedience […] they are risking arrest, but it’s a protest and you know what, the National Mall is a place for protest.

Eidinger stated that #Trump420 was not intended to be disruptive or explicitly anti-Trump. When we asked what success would look like for the #Trump420 event, DCMJ co-founder Nikolas Schiller provided us with this statement:

A successful #Trump420 is to have the President come out in support of full legalization in all states, territories, and the District of Columbia. While he has said in the past that cannabis should be left up to the states, DC is not a state, therefore we are concerned that DC could be targeted by the incoming AG. We want President Trump to instruct [Jeff] Sessions to not use taxpayer dollars enforcing cannabis laws that the majority of Americans want changed. One way to Make America Great Again is to acknowledge the failure of the war on drugs and work toward passing legislation (or through executive order) that removes cannabis from the Controlled Substances Act and allows states to implement their own laws.

Although DCMJ has stated they are not anti-Trump, they have been highly critical of President-elect Trump’s choice of Jeff Sessions, who is staunchly anti-legalization, for Attorney General and have been lobbying members of Congress against confirming him for that position, Schiller told us:

Yesterday we dropped off cannabis-related sample questions for Senator Sessions to all the Senators on the members of the Senate Judiciary Committee with the hopes that they will be asked at his confirmation hearing next week. We are concerned that Senator Sessions as the AG will roll back the reforms we’ve worked so hard to make and plan on attending the hearing.

How long it will take the group to distribute 4,200 free joints is unknown, but it is worth noting that organizers of one of the largest scheduled Inauguration Day protests, the Women’s March on Washington, estimate that around 200,000 people will show up for their event alone.

Trey Songz Arrested After Trashing Concert (UPDATE)

More updated from TMZ…looks like Trey was officially booked for a felony:

10:13 AM PT — Trey Songz was just arraigned. He stood mute, so the court entered a not guilty plea on his behalf, and the judge set his bail at $25K. He has not yet been released.

9:54 AM PT — The Wayne County Prosecutor has charged Trey Songz with assaulting a police officer causing injury, and aggravated assault. He’s expected to be arraigned this afternoon.

From TMZ:

Trey Songz made good on a threat during a Detroit concert Wednesday night … and it landed him in jail.

Someone at the Joe Louis Arena apparently told Trey his set was going too long, but he wasn’t near ready to leave. In fact, he dared them to cut his mic, promising retaliation if they did.

Well, they did and he did. Trey started destroying everything in sight, hurling objects in the air. A cop who tried subduing him was hurt after being struck by debris.

Trey was arrested for resisting arrest and malicious destruction of property.

YOU SAW IT COMING: Tiny Files For Divorce From T.I.

From TMZ:

T.I.’s wife, Tiny, wants out — she filed for divorce.

Tiny filed legal docs earlier this month in Georgia’s Henry County. They got married back in 2010 and have 3 kids together — 2 sons and 1 daughter.

We’re told the rapper and Tiny had been going through a rough patch that started several months before an awkward photo surfaced showing Tiny pictured with the rapper’s nemesis, Floyd Mayweather, and Mariah Carey at her Halloween party.

Paul Wall & Baby Bash Arrested, Hit With Felony Drug Charges (UPDATE)

UPDATE: From KHOU

Houston rapper Paul Wall was in court Tuesday morning to face a judge on felony drug charges.

Thirty-five-year-old Paul Michael Slayton, AKA Paul Wall, was arrested last week after a narcotics bust at a smoke shop in the heights. He’s charged with possession of a controlled substance with internet to deliver.

Fellow rapper Baby Bash is also facing charges.

On Tuesday morning, it was revealed that the charge has been changed to engaging in an organized crime with possession for intent to deliver THC.

Prosecutors say the duo organized a smoke session at the store via Instagram, and that two undercover officers paid to get in and saw large amounts of THC wax, marijuana and also pills.

**********

From TMZ:

Paul Wall and Baby Bash found themselves in a familiar situation Friday … hooked up in cuffs after cops in Texas busted them for drugs.

Law enforcement sources in Houston tell us officers executed a search warrant early Friday morning. Wall and Bash were there and got arrested on the spot, along with 8 other people. According to court records, both have been hit with felonies.

At this time, it’s unclear what drugs were found during the raid. The rappers were also busted together in 2011 … for possession of weed in El Paso.
